Friday 22nd February 2019 Term 1 Issue 2
FAREWELL MRS JACKSON Last Saturday night the Canobolas community farewelled Mrs Maxine Jackson. Over 60 guests,
including family members and current and former colleagues, gathered to celebrate her
outstanding teaching career of 37 years. A lovely meal was served and several speeches were
made, then Mrs Jackson was presented with a gift, flowers and a celebratory cake made by
Miss Neve. It was a great night for acknowledging a stellar career and also for renewing old
friendships.
Mrs Jackson was also a student at our school before becoming a teacher here, so has had a
long association with Canobolas. Mrs Jackson had a special gift for teaching and is beloved
by many of her former students. Farewell and enjoy your much-deserved retirement Mrs
Jackson.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Canobolas Rural Technology High School provides a supportive, safe and happy environment. In order for
students to achieve to their potential they need to be at school and in class. Regular attendance in the
learning opportunities that our teachers prepare, develop and refine, will prepare students for the rigor of
further study and for the challenges of employment. Without regular attendance and class participation
your student may miss essential information that will help them to achieve.
Not only are parents and carers responsible for ensuring that students are at school, so are students
responsible for attending and participating in every lesson. Students are reminded that class teachers
record class attendance for every lesson. Attendance has always been a priority for our school and this
focus will continue in 2019 and beyond. We are developing a streamlined process to inform our
community and provide additional information about attendance at school and lessons. For your
information I have included the link to the Compulsory School Attendance policy for the information of all
students, carers and parents.

Over the last fortnight we have run two expression of interest panels to fill some temporary vacancies
within the executive team. I am pleased to announce that Mr. Curran has been successful in applying for
the role of Deputy Principal. Mr. Curran will take on responsibility for Years 8 and 11. Additionally we have
run a panel to find a Head Teacher Science and I welcome Mr. Boardman to the executive team.
Wednesday 27 February is our school swimming carnival and your student will have brought home a
permission note. The Swimming Carnival involves a number of different swimming events held for the entire
school. Students have a chance to qualify to represent the school in zone and compete against other
schools. This is a normal school day and all students are expected to attend even if they do not participate
in events. Students are split into their houses and are to sit with their respective houses for the day. Teachers
supervise the day. Students should bring water, lunch and sun protection. There is a canteen available,
however the lines can be long. Students are encouraged to dress up in their house colours to represent
their team.
I would also like to thank the community for the emails of acknowledgement of the hard work of our staff.
There have been a number of emails this year recognising the regular contact home and the work that
our staff are doing to support students in their learning. This has been across years and for a number of our
staff. These messages and phone calls affirm the important role that our teachers play in the delivery of
education to your student. Scott Paterson, Principal

Congratulations to all the students who are continuing to display a high level of effort in theory and
practical lessons.
A reminder for students to bring appropriate equipment to theory lessons including book, pen and ruler!
And ensure we bring our positive attitude to learn and try our best at all times.
It is an expectation that all students participate in ALL practical lessons and sport and follow all instructions
given by their teacher. Medical reasons for exclusion from a sport or PDHPE lesson are only possible with a
medical certificate signed by a doctor accompanied by a letter from the
parent.
A reminder that it is a good idea to bring along a hat and ensure that your
child has a drink bottle to use each day with the warm weather we are
currently having!
If students would like to represent the school in a sporting team, they must listen out to the daily notices in
roll call or on morning assembles about putting their name down and attending trials. It is compulsory to
attend trials in order to be selected in a school team. If your child, has any questions please come and see
the friendly PE staff in the hall.
-Miss Morrissey (Head Teacher PDHPE)
We’ve had a number of changes within the PDHPE Faculty this year. We warmly welcome Mr
Tim Francey and Mr Eric Morris joining the team this year. They both bring many years of

are very lucky to have such talented and caring staff work with us in sport and PDHPE lessons.

Welcome back to a new school year with fresh opportunities for dance and performance!
Sport Dance
Students will once again have the option to choose dance for double sport, which will be
the allocated time for building technique and learning routines for eisteddfods such as
Wellington, Bathurst and Orange.
Once students have had a chance to try out dance, an information note will be sent home
and they can decide whether they will commit to the three terms of dance for eisteddfods
and the concert.
Ensemble Dance Groups
This year, Miss Lee will be running two ensemble groups on Tuesdays (Contemporary) and
Fridays (Jazz/Hip hop) at 8am. Auditions will be held for students to be accepted into these
ensemble groups. Students can express their interest by writing their names down outside
the PE staffroom and must listen to the notices for audition times.
Schools Spectacular
Students who are interested in being a part of the audition video for the 2019 Schools
Spectacular, must also attend the ensemble auditions and tick the box on the sign up sheet
outside the PE staffroom. The routine for this audition will be taught on either the Tuesday or
Friday ensemble times.
After a few weeks of trialling dance, students have now been sent
home with an information note regarding the expectations of
Canobolas dance. Please read through the information with your child
before they commit to dance. It is important that students understand
the expectations and can commit to dance till the end of term 3 as
they will be a part of eisteddfods and the concert.
Students who have participated in dance for sport have had the
chance to try styles including contemporary, hip hop, jazz and musical
theatre. They have participated in fitness sessions and learnt a variety of
dance techniques.
Miss Lee is looking forward to working with some of the great dancers
she’s seen so far and seeing the improvements that will be made. Below
are some pictures of our year 7 and 8 dancers!

CRTHS HOUSE CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED!!
With the Swimming Carnival fast approaching, each house came together to
nominate for their House and Vice Captain representatives.
Students were formally recognised with their captaincy badges on assembly by Mr
Paterson and Miss Meys in front of the school and they will also be featured in the
local paper alongside the captains of the school.
This is a huge honour for the students and the following students should be
congratulated:
Students should be looking ahead to next week when the WHOLE SCHOOL
SWIMMING CARNIVAL takes place on Wednesday 27th February.
This is a great time for the houses to band together and cheer each other on.
All students should have submitted their permission notes so a friendly reminder to
ensure that this has been done to include maximum participation.

INNOVATION FACULTY NEWS
In History Club we watch, discuss, play and create.
History club is for students who have an interest in both modern and ancient
history and feel like they don’t get to study their passion areas in class. It is
also for those students who feel they need some extra help understanding
history, either learnt in classes or with their assessment tasks.
History Club is held every Tuesday lunchtime in A11.
All are welcome and you don’t need to turn up every session.
See Miss McRae for further information.
