Welcome back to a wet and blustery start to Term Two.
We welcome Ms Themie Oud to Reddam House. She joins us as the Middle School Deputy
Principal, where her main responsibility will be the academic programme and day to day
running of the Middle School. She is also teaching Ms. Susie Britten’s English classes, while
she is away on maternity leave.
Mr. Garratt takes on a new and exciting role within the school as the Deputy Principal of
Pastoral Care and Student Affairs, including a Community Service element we are hoping
to expand. His role will include both Middle and High School.
We also welcome Mr. Ben Fenner into the Science Department.
We congratulate Mr. Phil Francis on the birth of his daughter, Tara and Iain Tallis on the birth
of his son, McCartney Phillip. We wish the proud parents well and welcome their children
into the Reddam family.
The Art Department had a week’s art retreat to Hamilton Island during the holidays and
Mrs. Symonds has not stopped raving about the calibre of the students, who went on the
trip (inclusive, willing to share, resourceful, creative, thankful, mature and loads of fun) as
well as the level of art workshops experienced by the students. The students have come
away having learnt many new skills and techniques and the importance of consistent cre-
ativity in art making.
I include a link to a YouTube clip put together by Mrs. Symonds for your enjoyment. Click
here to view it. Also please read the article later in this newsletter.

Taylor Kuper and Caitlin Reid are thanked for representing the school at the ANZAC Day RSL service
at Waverley Park. They presented a book for the Waverley Library on behalf of the school.
Students who have had amazing achievements during the holidays include:
Yonatan Freund took part in a number of karate tournaments, the first the Schools & University
Championships, where he represented Reddam House and won Gold. The following day was
the Australian Open where he matched the effort, becoming Australian Champion for his age/
weight. He will be representing NSW at The Nationals, to be held in Adelaide in August. As part of his
Australian team commitments, he has training at the Australian Institute of Sport in May, and is hop-
ing to make the Australian Team for the Commonwealth Karate Championships in India in Septem-
ber.
Kai Mashimo was named the winner of the Middle Division in Scenario Writing for the Australian affili-
ate for 2014. Subsequently, his narrative was then submitted internationally and all narratives in each
division are again marked by international evaluators. Kai has placed in the top five of the Middle
Division at an international level, which is simply outstanding. Furthermore, Kai's narrative will be pub-
lished in a well-known Future Problem Solving resource for 2015 which is also amazing. Well done Kai.

Jaiden Fairhead (Year 7), Daniel Milgrom and Josh Stotski (both Year 8) represented UNSW Wests
White at the 14 & Under National Club Water Polo Championships held at the Gold Coast Aquatic
Centre from the 31st March to 6th April. After 2 days of tough round robin games, the boys were
seeded to play in the Shield Group, winning 2 games, losing 1 and drawing their last game, against
a team that ended up on the same group points as the boys, but went through to play in the group
final based on a better goal difference. Jaiden, Daniel and Josh are pictured below right.
Uniform Shop: Lucy has embarked on a new career and will not be continuing with us this term.

HAMILTON ISLAND ART RETREAT
An unparalleled art experience!!!
Students were engaged in a range of workshops from drawing to watercolour, photog-
raphy and environmental sculpture.
Our student artists also worked with artist in residence Trevor Platt at the Hamilton Island
Art Gallery being taught techniques in acrylic paint - blending, creating backgrounds
and developing under the sea subject matter such as coral, fish, jellyfish and turtles.
Everyone was fully engrossed in island life - swimming, sailing, stand up paddle board-
ing, parasailing and shopping.
As is so on all Reddam House Art Retreats...the students are amazing food at beautiful
restaurants and fully enjoyed their garden view rooms at the Reef View Resort.
The students also had a daily theme...such as 'frond' or 'architecture' or 'pattern' and
they had to create a drawing or painting as well as a photograph based on this theme
outside of their structured workshops.
There were 6am wake ups for sunrise photographic sessions and a steep hike to
'Passage Peak' - the highest point on the island.
The students have come away having learnt many new skills and techniques and the
importance of consistent creativity and artmaking.
What an amazing group of students!!! Inclusive, willing to share, resourceful, creative,
thankful, mature and loads of fun.
Thanks you, Seren, Chloe, Louis, Mia, Chloe, Mikayla, Annabel, Bella, Naomi, Maya,
