YEAR ONE

Year One have had an artistic start to the half term, not only focusing on Monet in the afternoons but creating art in their maths lessons as well! We have talked about lots of complicated vocabulary to do with creating patterns such as ‘tessellation’ and ‘symmetry’. We also practiced our ruler skills on Monday by creating pictures with straight lines. Since the sun was shining we even made some mathematical art outside in the courtyard. Could you complete this repeating pattern?

YEAR TWO

RECEPTION

“Be yourself because everyone else is taken”- Oscar Wilde. This week 2RP performed a magnificent class assembly on our theme for the week, “Self- Confidence”. We understand the importance of having confidence in ourselves in everything that we do, both inside and outside of school! Self-confidence is precious…but it is easily damaged. We must always choose our words and actions carefully as, if we don’t, somebody’s confidence could be shattered! We demonstrated this during a heart-breaking role-play and then showed Year One how it can be built up once more. This week try to remember to “be kind to yourself as YOU are listening” .

Canarywharfcollege @Canarywharfcoll

We have had a lovely week back in Reception after the half term break. Our story this week has been the traditional tale of Rumpelstiltskin. We have made comparisons and talked about the features of fiction and non-fiction books and how to find information in them. All the children have written facts and drawn pictures compiling our own class non-fiction book about light and dark. During Maths lessons, we have learnt about odd and even numbers and counting in two’s. The children have also been introduced to the concept of doubling numbers. We are all looking forward to the Maths and ICT activities next week!
