Principals Report

Holidays - It has been a long and busy term at Campbelltown East PS with many great opportunities for parents and community to come up to school and participate in school activities and events. We now move in to school holidays. Students have had a very busy term and are ready for holidays. I encourage you to take the holidays to recharge your batteries and spend some quality time ready to return to school on Monday 14th October. (Remember, there is no Staff Development in Term 4). EVEN MORE Work around the school - During the school holidays you may see a lot of workers moving around our school. We are taking advantage of the time at school when there are no children around to replace the roof on Block D (the 2 storey building) and Block L (Kindergarten rooms). We are also replacing the ceilings in 1C, 1S, the STEM room and Itinerant Hearing teacher’s room. 2020 Enrolments - We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten for 2020. If you have a child who is turning 5 years of age on or before July 31st 2020, they can start next year. Please come and see one of our office staff for an enrolment package. Little Kindy will commence in Term 4. If you know of any new families in the area or families that have school aged children starting Kindergarten next year please let them know they can come and enrol.

Communication with school - If at any time you have any queries or concerns I encourage you to communicate these with the school. It is always better to discuss concerns before they become a problem. Janene Cook Principal

PBL Winners

Congratulation to the following winners:

Uta T 3-4CH Safe’ Award

Uta has been excelling at partner dancing for Creative Arts. She makes sure that she is aware of her own personal space and the space of others around her. Uta keeps others in time by counting beats aloud to ensure that the whole group works as a cohesive whole and the dance flows smoothly. In class, Uta keeps a tidy work space and packs up, both after herself and others, at the completion of all tasks. Thank you for being a safe role model in our class.

Zane E 2B Respectful Award

Zane consistently displays positive, safe and respectful behaviour that aligns to both the class and school expectations. He demonstrates

dedication to all learning tasks and strives to achieve his personalised learning goals. Zane shows leadership skills when working within a group setting, always ensuring that the group has all required equipment and a positive collaborative attitude. Zane consistently offers his time to help ensure the classroom is well maintained upon the completion of his assigned tasks. He respectfully is able to remind his peers on how to behave appropriately within the classroom setting and is always positive towards his peers. Congratulations Zane and keep up the strong work ethic!

Islam E 1S

Learner’ Award

Islam has made fantastic progress with his English language skills this year. He is an enthusiastic participant in class discussions, often sharing his own stories and elaborating on others’ perspectives. Another great quality of Islam’s is that he is not afraid to ask for help when he needs it. Islam loves sharing things about his home country, and often teaches others the translations for words in his home language of Arabic. I am really proud of the progress he has made so far this year, and thoroughly enjoy the time I spend with his class. Thanks for being a great learner, Islam.

VISION SCREENING

YEAR 1 STUDENTS Over 80% of what children learn is processed through their eyes. Untreated eye conditions may affect learning ability, self-esteem and athletic performance. Treatment of vision problems identified in screening tests may save children from experiencing frustrating and damaging effects that may accompany a vision disorder. Free vision screening is being offered to all Year 1 students at Campbelltown East Public School. The screening looks at basic visual abilities, such as clarity of vision, the ability to coordinate both eyes as team and eye movement proficiency. However, please note that the screening is not a full eye examination. The screening will be along the lines of a protocol developed by the Optometrists Association of Australia. A report on the results of the screening will be prepared and forwarded to the school within one week of the screening day. The school will then send the report home with your child.

If an apparent problem is identified, we will recommend that you seek further assessment from your local optometrist or ophthalmologist. Screening will be available at the school on Wednesday 23 October 2019 and is provided at no cost to parents or the school.

Walking Excursion As part of Stage One’s Environmental Studies students in K-1S, 1C, 1S, 1-2C and 2B will be going on a bush walk in Smith’s Creek throughout Term 4 in the 2019 school year. During these walks students they will be observing all aspects of the bush environment eg; plants, soil, birds and other animal observations etc. Please sign the permission note below and return it to the blue letterbox in the school office foyer by Friday 27 September 2019.

LATENESS TO SCHOOL

Important Reminder: Many students are arriving to school late in the morning. It’s getting colder and we understand that it is tempting to stay in bed for a little longer. However, the bell that signals the start of the school day rings at 8.55am. It is a legal requirement for students to be at school and it is important for them to hear the morning messages and routines for the day. As teacher rolls are legal documents, it is vital that they are accurate so it is necessary for all students who are not in lines, therefore late, to go to the office for a late note. Our roles are regularly monitored by the School Home Liaison Officer and regular patterns of lateness to school are monitored. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but these protocols ensure the safety of all students. Galactic Gus says, ‘Make it your goal to be at school every day and in line every time!’

Before & After School Care

Have Your Say on Before and After School Care

The NSW Government is committed to providing before and after school care to all students of public primary schools in New South Wales. As part of the reform, a parent web form has been established by Service NSW that will enable parents to tell the department about their specific care needs and to stay up to date with any new developments. The information provided by parents will help the Department of Education to understand your needs, give them insights into where there are gaps in service delivery and help to ensure the extra places are delivered where they are required.

Have you say today at https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc.
