This pack will help you plan your fundraising activities for WorldAutism Awareness month. Whether you choose to take part onSilly Sock Day or organise your own fundraising activities this pack is full of everything you need to make your fundraising go with a swing!

Receiving a diagnosis of autism, at any age, is often just one step in a long and challenging journey. Autism West Midlands are here to support anyone who needs a helping hand along the way; a life-line or just a friendly ear to listen, understand andadvise. Remember: You can play an important part in helping us to accomplish this…

Plan your Silly Sock Day in 5 easy steps

Pick a date - You can choose any date for your Silly Sock Day or choose to celebrate with us on Friday 5th April our official Silly Sock Day! Remember to share your pics on our social media

Ways to make your Silly Sock Day even sillier

Download a poster and tell everyone to dig out their silly socks - click here

Collect a £1 donation from everyone taking part

Take photographs and put them on Facebook & Twitter #sillysockday

Count up your cash and pay it in

Make a silly sock snake puppet - you could even hold a competition with prizes for the best/worst efforts

Silly Sock hunt – separate socks and hide them, the team who find the most pairs win a prize

Fill a sock with sweets and guess the amount to win the lot!

Make sock shaped cookies and decorate

Challenge people to take an old sock and decorate it as whacky and silly as they can

Dress up/down! One of the easiest ways to raise money at school or work is to charge everyone for wearing non-uniform. Make things interesting by adding a theme and have a prize for the best and worst dressed!

Cake sale! Put your baking skills to the test and organise a cake sale or even a coffee morning. If your baking skills aren’t up to scratch why not buy some favourites and ask for donations.

There are lots of ways you can raise money for Autism West Midlands but here are our top 10 easy to organise events. You can probably think of many more, we love hearing about the ways you support us. Tell us what you are planning and send us your photos.

Quiz night! Test your general knowledge by organising a quiz night. Charge teams or individuals to enter and give a prize to the brainiest of the bunch!

Be crafty! If you or anyone you know has a flair for crafts why not use those skills to raise money! Make cards, knit scarfs, make jewellery or even organise an exhibition of your talents.

Get sponsored! Whether you’re taking on a sporty challenge or involved in a silly contest, get it sponsored! From shaving your head to a spelling bee or an egg and spoon race, capitalise on the competition and collect up as much sponsorship as you can.

Give up something you love! Why not set yourself a challenge and give up something you love for one month.

Fun fair! Christmas, Easter or summer, it is always the perfect time to organise a fair or fete. Choose between an indoor outdoor event and organise a raffle or tombola and some card games like play your cards right. Ask local businesses to donate some prizes and start selling tickets.

Small change! Pennies add up to pounds so why not request a home collection box to save up your small change. You could place one at work too on reception or use it as a swear box!

Run a marathon! Take part in a marathon or a sponsored run there are lots of runs around the West Midland area such as the Great Birmingham Run and Wolf Run.

How you can make a difference cont...

Could pay for a child with autism a stay and play session. These sessions give children the chance to do what they do best – play.

£15

Is what it costs to run our Information Advice Line for one hour. Providing alistening ear and vital support to those affected by autism.

£20

Could help pay for a family to attend an advice session. These sessions help families that have reached a crisis point and offer a helping hand to build a stronger future.

£25May give a brother or sister of a child with autism the chance to at-tend a sibling workshop. Sibling workshops allow children to learn more about autism and provide a great opportunity to share their feelings.

£50Could provide a 1:1 specialist support to a family of a child with autism. This would help them develop long term coping strategies, improving their day to day lives.

£100Could fund a 6 week training course for a parent. This course will help families to understand autism, ask questions they may have and meet other parents.

Make your own snake sock puppet!You will need:• Googly eyes• Different coloured felt (or any material you have spare)• Glue• Scissors

Steps:

1. Find an old sock. It can be any colour, and it should be long enough for you to stick your arm in

2. Glue two googly eyes to the bottom of the sock, where your toes would be

3. Once the glue is dry, stick your hand in with the top of your hand where the bottom of your foot would be, and make your hand in a shape of a mouth. Your arm should look like a snake

4. Decorate your sock puppet with fabric paint and/or a felt tongue cut with a “v” at the end like a snake’s tongue

You could even put on a sock puppet show with your creations!
