Thank you to the teachers and teaching assistants for their hard work in preparing the rooms. Sadly, Mrs Cripps, one of our HLTAs, will be leaving us at the end of the term, after 10 years at Buttsbury, to take up a new position at Quilters Junior School. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her the best of luck in her new role. Summer Bonanza I would like to say a really big thank youto all the members of our FriendsAssociation and all the other parents and staff who helped to set up, tidy up and run the Summer Bonanza. It was a wonderful afternoon, with lovely weather - even going into The Cage of Monsters wasnt too bad with the scorcher of a day we had! Thank you also to everyone who came along and supported the event with a very special Thank youto Laura Johnston, Andrea Joyce and Claire Simmons and their organising committee. It was a wonderful afternoon with an amazing atmosphere and fabulous weather; everyone seemed to be having a great time enjoying the different events on offer. Overall the Bonanza raised £4000 which is a magnificent amount of money and truly reflects not only the hard work put in but also the amount of fun everyone had! They have given up so much of their own time to lead our FriendsAssociation and done an amazing job! I would also like to thank Kelly Furness and Maxine Saunders who are stepping down from the FriendsAssociation Committee, after many years of service as their youngest children will be leaving Buttsbury at the end of this term. It has been a very successful year for our FriendsAssociation. We are very lucky to be moving into the new year with all key committee positions filled but the new committee will need your support so please do consider helping in some way. We also need to look towards the future and start to consider new officers, who could shadow our current team, so we dont find ourselves without key roles being filled in the future. Wacky Hair Day - Friday 12th July For a suggested donation of £1, the children may come to school wearing their hair in a wackystyle! Coloured hair spray is permitted but please be sensible as it tends to leave marks if children lean on things! Please note that, if it is a hot day, the hairspray can tend to dripif the children sweat! Also, please be aware that it needs to be temporary and all trace needs to be gone by Monday. All the money raised is for the FriendsAssociation. Thank you! Year Group Competition at the Summer Bonanza Thank you very much for your generous donations for the Year Group tombolas and to the children who helped run the stalls. The results are below: Year 6 - Sweets - £307 Year 5 - Sport - £172 Year 4 - Alfresco - £170 Year 3 - Holiday - £163 Overall £812 was raised on the Year Group stalls alone which is amazing. Ice Cream Friday

Thank you very much for coming along to our Celebration Evening on Wednesday. It was great to see so

many families join us. I think it is always lovely to celebrate the achievements of the year in such a visual

way. Thank you to the teachers and teaching assistants for their hard work in preparing the rooms.

Sadly, Mrs Cripps, one of our HLTAs, will be leaving us at the end of the term, after 10 years at Buttsbury, to take

up a new position at Quilters Junior School. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her the best of

luck in her new role.

Summer Bonanza I would like to say a really big ‘thank you’ to all the

members of our Friends’ Association and all the other parents and staff who helped to set up, tidy up and run the Summer Bonanza. It was a wonderful

afternoon, with lovely weather - even going into The Cage of Monsters wasn’t too bad with the scorcher of a day we had! Thank you also to everyone who came along and supported the event with a very special ‘Thank you’ to Laura Johnston, Andrea Joyce and Claire Simmons and their organising

committee. It was a wonderful afternoon with an amazing atmosphere and fabulous weather; everyone

seemed to be having a great time enjoying the different events on offer.

Overall the Bonanza raised £4000 which is a magnificent amount of money and truly reflects not only the hard work put in but also the amount of fun

everyone had! As this was the final ‘big event’ of the year, I would like to say a very special thank you to Laura, Claire

and Andrea, for all their hard work. They have given up so much of their own time to lead our Friends’

Association and done an amazing job! I would also like to thank Kelly Furness and Maxine Saunders

who are stepping down from the Friends’ Association Committee, after many years of service as their youngest children will be leaving Buttsbury

at the end of this term. It has been a very successful year for our Friends’ Association. We are very lucky to be moving into

the new year with all key committee positions filled but the new committee will need your support so please do consider helping in some way. We also

need to look towards the future and start to consider new officers, who could shadow our current team, so

we don’t find ourselves without key roles being filled in the future.

Wacky Hair Day - Friday 12th July For a suggested donation of £1, the children may come to school

wearing their hair in a ‘wacky’ style! Coloured hair spray is permitted but please be sensible as it tends to leave marks if

children lean on things! Please note that, if it is a hot day, the hairspray can tend to ‘drip’ if the children sweat! Also, please be aware that it needs to be temporary and all trace needs to be

gone by Monday. All the money raised is for the Friends’ Association. Thank you!

Sports Day - 2019 Thank you very much to everyone who was able to join us for this year’s

Sports Day! I think you will agree that it was a fantastic day and that there was a lovely atmosphere - everyone seemed to be having fun! The children were magnificent - it is always great to see them working together in their House teams, encouraging one another throughout the events and as ever, their behaviour was exemplary. Thank you to the staff team for organising

and running the day. Congratulations to all the children - you were all amazing but, sadly there can

only be one winner, so here are this year’s results: Year 3 and Year 4 - Leopards

Year 5 and Year 6 - Lions And this year’s overall winners are the Lions!

Well done to our winning teams!

On Sunday 7th July, our Rotakids group will be at Billericay's SummerFest event at Sun Corner, raising money for our pupil's chosen charity of choice - the RSPCA. The children will be running a stall called the Lucky Ice Cream and would love to see some familiar faces. So do please come along and visit us this Sunday and help us raise some money

for our worthy cause! We are also involved in a penalty shoot out competition, organised by Billericay Town

Football Club which starts at 1.00pm. The event starts at 11.00am and ends at

4.00pm! See you there!

Afternoon Tea Another excited group of children eagerly arrived at the

Staff Room ready to join us for Afternoon Tea on Thursday, armed with lots of wonderful work to share! I am

always very impressed by the children’s wonderful manners and positive encouragement of one another.

School Development Plan - 2019/2020 As you may recall, on Wednesday 26th June, representatives from all our stakeholder groups, met to review the school’s progress in 2018/2019 and identify priorities for 2019/2020. These are then fed directly into our new School Development Plan. The School Development Plan incorporates the ideas and suggestions of all our stakeholders, staff, parents, children and

governors. It also links closely to the Ofsted framework. We hope that our School Development Plan will continue to drive improvement in the school and assist us on our journey to officially becoming an outstanding school. Please find a summary of the key aspects of our School Development Plan

attached with this week’s newsletter. I hope that it is useful to read. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions.

Half-Price Book Sale On Tuesday we held our half price book sale in the Small Hall. All our classes visited the book sale during the day

where the children were able to spend their money! It was great to see so many of our children choosing new books to

enjoy at home and browsing the new titles. Overall, we earned £200 in commission from the sale, which will be

used to provide further new books for class reading areas. Thank you to everyone who supported our book sale.

Middle Row: Freddie, Thomas, Emily, Bottom Row: Year Four footballers, Olivia, Toby Lashmar

County English Competition On Tuesday afternoon, four of our English superstars from Year 6

competed in the final of the English Competition. After 7 heats from across the county, seeing over 50 school compete for a place, the final saw 15

schools from across Essex compete in a number of spelling, punctuation and grammar exercises, such as Apostrophe Catastrophe and Odd One Out!

The team, consisting of Torsten Greenan, Adam Havis, Lana Tseayo and Lila Eve, showed excellent teamwork throughout. Their level of

conversation about the activities showed a deep understanding of the areas tested. Overall, the team placed a very respectable 9th position, with only

12 points between them and the winners! A huge well done to the team and thank you to Miss Carroll for accompanying them.

Rotary Club Presentation On Wednesday, we were joined by Les Sheppard, President

of Billericay Rotary Club and Mike Sinclair, Chair of the Youth Section of the Rotary Club. Mike and Les enjoyed watching the children having a great time undertaking the

‘Hula Hoop’ challenge and also presented our Rotakids with a cheque for £250 which was raised through the Soapbox

Derby. We are very grateful for this generous donation which will be used to support our Rotakids in their future

charitable work and community service!

Sponsored Hula Hoop Challenge for the RSPCA On Wednesday 3rd July 2019, Buttsbury Junior School supported their chosen charity (RSPCA) by

completing a sponsored hula hoop challenge. The children were given a sponsor form to collect as many sponsors as they could from their family and friends. The children were sponsored either per hula hoop or by the total amount of hula hoops in a minute. The children hula hooped within their year group and worked in

pairs to count the amount of hula hoops performed. A prize was awarded to the child who performed the most hula hoops (from each class). Buttsbury was even lucky enough to have some press coverage supporting this

fantastic event from The Billericay Rotary Club which will feature in their next newsletter! The Rotary Club also awarded Buttsbury with a cheque for £250 for all the fundraising we have done throughout the year. Thank you to all of the staff for helping to organise the event, especially to Miss Pretty! The total amount

raised is yet to be revealed as the children will now collect in all their sponsor money. Well done Buttsbury for another successful and exciting fundraiser for such a worthy cause!
