Friday 5th July 2019 Term 2 Issue 10
CLONTARF FOOTBALL MATCH On Tuesday this week, Canobolas Clontarf Academy hosted a rugby league game against Wellington
Clontarf Academy. Wellington High School has only recently established their Clontarf Academy so it was
a good opportunity for the two schools to get together and bond over a game of footy and also end the
term on a high note.
Both sides played hard and fair and with great spirit. It was not about who scored more tries but about
competing in a friendly atmosphere. Teachers and students took a break from regular classes to watch
the game so there was plenty of cheering from the side lines to keep the boys’ enthusiasm going.
Hopefully there will be more opportunities for the two academies to get together in the future. These
great photos were taken by Alex Ilievski in Year 8.
Year 7 Tech - Agrifood
Students cooked Hawaiian Chicken in the kitchens and tested the strength of the egg by trying
to break it with their hands at the ag plot.

Year 9 Agriculture
The students have learnt about direct drilling a crop. We had Mike West a local contractor
come and sow two paddocks with barley.
Year 9 Child Studies
The balloon and ping pong ball was a fun way to demonstrate contractions when the students
were learning about Conception to Birth.
CREATIVE ARTS NEWS Composition Workshop
During Thursday and Friday of Week 8 Tim Hansen came to the school to do some composition
workshops with students from various Music classes. There was a workshop about electronic
Music where students were shown the many features of the GarageBand app and allowed to
create their own compositions. The second workshop allowed students to gain a better
understanding of how traditional notation works and created a group composition using a
program called Sibelius. Students were highly engaged in both workshops and worked really
well with Tim.

End of term concert
The last Monday of term was a big one for students in Years 8, 9 and 10, who were privileged
enough to see their peers perform on stage. There was a range of piano playing and singing
performances, which all students prepared themselves. A massive congratulations to all students
who performed and Ty Lord who was the MC for the afternoon. It takes a lot of guts to stand on
stage in front of such a large crowd. You should all be so proud.

Year 10 Photography and Digital Imaging
Term 2 has been a busy term with photography students spending time investigating the history
of photography. They were required to research and prepare a group presentation focusing on
a significant invention in the evolution of photography. Photography has changed a great deal
in the past twenty years and young photographers have grown up with digital photography
only.
A practical activity to compliment their historical studies about photography was to make a
pinhole camera from a tin and take a photograph using photosensitive papers. Some of the
results of these photographs are below and considering the photos were taking using biscuit tins,
the results are quite impressive and reminiscent of photographs of yesteryear.
Allowing students to access some of the darkroom practices that were once commonplace in
most schools, meant they now have a better appreciation for the innovators who have
preceded them in making photography as accessible as it is today with their phones having a
high quality camera as standard.
