Y In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
Dear Parents and Carers,
The weather has been kinder to us this week! It has been good to be able to get out to play once more, and to
finally see that Spring is on its way.
Our children have been hard at work, with everyone enjoying their learning in a whole range of subjects…
We are all looking forward to sharing our learning with you in our class assemblies, which got underway this
Friday. Please note the change of date for the Year 3, 4 sharing assembly, which has been changed to Monday
12th March at 3pm.
THANK YOU…
All the children have enjoyed thinking about our mums in assemblies this week. They have thought of so many
things to say ‘Thank you’ for, and they are all looking forward to spoiling their mums this weekend! We hope all
our mums have a very special weekend.

SPORT UP-DATE
This week, our Sport Captain and Sports Crew have started planning events linked to Sport Relief, which takes
place in the week commencing 19th March.
We have also had a Table Tennis tournament with other schools, and Ethan has reported on this event for us:
“Everyone performed extremely well. I was proud of everyone’s performance and the sporting values they
showed, such as resilience, respect and great team-work. We were surprised and so pleased that we finished
third.”
Well done to our team of Ethan, Isla, Oscar, Emma S, Milo, Sophie, Elsa and Freddie.
MUSIC
On Wednesday, the Brass Recital Group came into school to perform for our children. This was a part of our
National Curriculum music syllabus, and it also entertained and inspired our children. Connie A and Isla have
reported on the recital…
“It was really fun to listen to and we really enjoyed that we were involved in it, too. We learnt about the brass
instruments, and we found out about how to play them. Some people went up and played a hose pipe with a
mouth-piece! I really enjoyed it when they played ‘Can’t stop the feeling’. The whole performance was
captivating and inspiring. We felt like we were involved the whole time.”
It has been a week full of hard work, and some excellent performances. Thank you to everyone for all your
efforts.

Social media enables users to share information and images at the click of a button. Sending
messages, keeping in touch with friends and relatives, posting pictures are all common and
accepted practice, but according to research by Parent Zone, ‘the average parent will share their
child’s image online nearly 1000 times before their fifth birthday’. The attached article discusses this
further, exploring both the positives and negatives of what is now referred to as ‘sharenting’

WILLOW CLASS
This week, the children in Reception have had a very busy, fun, creative week. There are lots of beautiful surprises
being created for one very special person.
We have also created a little garden outside where each child has planted a sunflower seed. We are going to have
a competition and see whose seed grows the tallest. Who knows, we may even grow a sunflower as tall as Mrs.
Ettridge!
In Maths this week, the children have been learning about time. They have been ordering events that happen
during their day and thinking about which part of the day they happen; in the morning, at lunchtime, in the
afternoon, in the evening or at night time. We have also been learning about the 7 days of the week and the 4
different seasons. The children are getting really good at spotting different signs of spring; the beautiful snowdrop
or daffodils, the lambs, chicks and ducklings that are being born and the fact that we can finally learn outside
without having to be wrapped up in our coats, hats, scarves and gloves!
In Phonics the children are getting very good at using the new sounds they are learning in their writing. It is lovely
to see so many of the children writing independently for so many different reasons.
MAPLE CLASS
This week in Literacy we have based our writing on a story called the Chimpanzees of Happy Town, by the same
author as Giraffes Can’t Dance. The children have used comparative and superlative adjectives to write a letter of
complaint about the town before it became Happy Town, namely Drabsville and they have written about it being
the dreariest and bleakest town. They have also written a newspaper report about when the main character in
the story a chimp called Chutney was put into jail. The children have all worked really hard.
In Maths we have been working hard on Number and Place Value and have been looking at a number square,
number lines and arrow cards to help us to understand the values of numbers.
We had a wonderful time on Wednesday when the NMPAT Brass Quintet visited and the children learnt all about
trumpets, trombones, French horns, and tubas. Some of the children even got to play a tune with a hosepipe
(including Mrs Williams), it was great fun and the children all joined in with the final performance.
CHERRY BLOSSOM
Another busy week has flown by. We have continued looking at Science-Fiction stories this week and have been
describing settings. The children have focused on trying to use ‘the power of three’ which is 3 adjectives
separated by commas and have also been using prepositions to help them add more detail.
In Maths, we have been using a written method to add. It was tricky to get our heads round to start with but
everybody worked really hard and didn’t give up. We also talked about why we use word problems and why it’s
important to show they can learn a skill and apply it.
On Wednesday morning, we have the Brass Quintet in school which was so much fun! Some children had the
opportunity to play a garden hose pipe – yes, a hose pipe. We learnt the names of the different objects and how
they work. Lots of the children were very enthusiastic about wanting to learn a new instrument afterwards.
We have also been getting ready for our class assembly which is on Monday 12th March at 3pm, we hope to see
you there!
OAK CLASS
On Wednesday, the Brass Band from NMPATrust entertained us. It was so lovely to see the children so focused and immersed as well as seeing them enjoying the information and music that was being shared.
We made our own rhythms again during our Tuesday session with Gideon.
In literacy this week we have written an introduction to a non-chronological report thinking about the 5 W’s that we need to include as well as a range of sentence types. We also explored the use of apostrophes in plurals and possessive words. In maths we have completed another session on the volume of 3D shapes. The children then enjoyed using a protractor and we moved on to revise calculation methods at the end of the week. Science involved some very large words and in-depth theories. The children learnt about the geocentric and the heliocentric models of how our solar system works and discussed the various thinking’s of historical scientists. In RE our focus has been the Easter celebration. The children created freeze frames this week dramatising a part of the Easter story. We read excerpts from the bible relating to each frame and discussed the true meaning behind the celebration.
