Check Your Credit Report First If you are thinking about buying a home or applying for credit, it is always best to know what is on your report before your lender does. This will help give you an opportunity to clean up any discrepancies or errors before you apply for a loan. You are entitled by law to one free copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus; Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. When you get your credit report(s), review them carefully to make sure all of the loans and credit card accounts listed belong to you, and that all of the accounts listed as open are actually current loans or balances. If you see a discrepancy on your report, contact the credit bureau and ask for your report to be corrected. It is also a good idea to review your credit information regularly to guard against identity theft. An identity thief may use your information to open a new credit card account in your name. When the bill is not paid, the delinquent account is reported on your credit report, damaging your ability to get credit in the future and subjecting you to calls from bill collectors. Information on your credit report is retained for up to seven to ten years. You can gradually repair your credit by consistently paying your bills on time, paying down balances, and not taking on new debt. Lenders will take your improved record into consideration when deciding whether to approve credit. Be proactive and check your credit reports annually with the three credit bureaus. To receive a free copy of your credit report(s) call or go online to: • Equifax – 1-800-685-1111 or www.Equifax.com • Experian – 1-888-397-3742 or www.Experian.com • TransUnion – 1-800-916-8800 or www.TransUnion.com 1 ST Quarter 2015 Hawaii Schools Federal Credit Union will be offering FREE tax services again through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Check Your Credit Report FirstIf you are thinking about buying a home or applying forcredit, it is always best to know what is on your report beforeyour lender does. This will help give you an opportunity to clean up any discrepancies or errors before you apply for a loan.

You are entitled by law to one free copy of your credit reportfrom each of the three credit bureaus; Equifax, Experian, andTransUnion.

When you get your credit report(s), review them carefully to make sure all of the loans and credit card accounts listedbelong to you, and that all of the accounts listed as open areactually current loans or balances. If you see a discrepancy on your report, contact the credit bureau and ask for yourreport to be corrected. It is also a good idea to review yourcredit information regularly to guard against identity theft. An identity thief may use your information to open a new credit card account in your name. When the bill is not paid, the delinquent account is reported on your credit report, damaging your ability to get credit in the future andsubjecting you to calls from bill collectors.

Information on your credit report is retained for up to seven to ten years. You can gradually repair your credit by consistently paying your bills on time, paying downbalances, and not taking on new debt. Lenders will take your improved record into consideration when decidingwhether to approve credit.

Be proactive and check your credit reports annually with the three credit bureaus. To receive a free copy of your creditreport(s) call or go online to:

• Equifax – 1-800-685-1111 or www.Equifax.com

• Experian – 1-888-397-3742 or www.Experian.com

• TransUnion – 1-800-916-8800 orwww.TransUnion.com
