It is great to see so many students in full school uniform this term. I am very proud of Yass Public and the children look like they have school pride when they are in uniform. I would like to welcome the Tacks back to the school and our new families the Ollman’s and Ziarno’s. I hope they are settling in well and enjoy being part of the Yass Public family. Please enjoy the start to the new term and the great weather. Any permission notes that go home with students are also available on our school website and can be downloaded, filled in and sent back to school if needed. Mrs Fahey Principal

We all came dressed as our favourite characters. We had a cute little Gretel, a Gingerbread Man, Snow White, a king and prince, little Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood, just to name a few. KB joined celebrations with the pirates from Mr Rae's room and enjoyed a feast of party food. It was a wonderful way to end a fantastic term. Tracy Bush

Ghana Beat My Drum On the last day of last term we were very lucky to experience this fantastic performance. Jonas played his drums and sang while the audience danced along. The children loved the music but also enjoyed Jonas’ sense of humour especially his big grin at the end of each song. William became ” Will I Am” when he came to the stage and he and others played the drums and shakers with great talent. Malakai and Reece showed their individual styles as they danced to the African music. The audience continued to dance, sing and laugh to the end. What a wonderful way to finish the term!

Year 3 and 4 Camp. To Birrigai. If you have not returned your medical notes for camp or not finalised your camp payment could you please organise this by Friday, 11th October, Week 1. Talent Quest. Friday of last term we saw how talented our Yass Public students are. We had many outstanding items including dancing, gymnastics, singing, comedy and short plays. I really admire the courage it took students to perform in front of such a big crowd. I was very proud of Mitchell in 2/3F who had several tries at his song. I’m sure he will perform again in next year’s talent show. We will also hear from Geena this next assembly with her song as we ran out of time on Friday afternoon. Active After School Sport. JINDABYNE CAMP.

Last week of last term year 5 and year 6 students attended camp at Jindabyne Sport and recreation camp. The weather wasn’t the best but despite that we all enjoyed the experience. We would all like to say a big thank you to Mick for coming along to give us a hand. But what did the children think? The best thing about camp was……………….. The chiefs made me full and the high jumps were awesome – James Cabins were great size, although Cian had a digestive problem – Jordan Archery was great – William I pushed myself out of my comfort zone in rock climbing – Cassidy High ropes was fun because of the height and I was taken out of my comfort zone, best experience ever – Jordana High ropes because they were really high and a little scary – Jack I did the high ropes blindfolded, I thought it was exiting that I finished the challenge – Dylan I got to hang with my friends and talk in the cabins – Magnus Hang’n with friends – Jane Everything! - Leanne

Did you know……? 8 to 12 hot chips (100 g) have around 3 teaspoons of fat and 1000 kJ. Compare this to a small baked potato (100 g) with a light spray of oil that has less than ¼ teaspoon of fat and 400 kJ. The main difference is added fat, hence the added energy or kilojoules. Here is a quick, easy and delicious way to make healthy, hot chips: Ingredients 2 large potatoes cut into chips or wedges 1 teaspoons canola oil 1 teaspoon soy sauce Method 1. Place a large tray or baking dish into the oven and preheat oven to 200°C. 2. Place all ingredients into a small plastic bag and shake. 3. Take hot tray or baking dish from oven using an oven mitt, and empty bag of potato

lightly coated with oil and soy sauce onto the hot tray. Discard the plastic bag. You can cover the tray with a piece of oven paper (optional). Return to the oven to cook for about 12 minutes or until the potato is golden brown and cooked, then serve.

Fresh fruit and vegetables – the green food Fresh fruit and vegetables are not only good for your health, but they are also good for the planet. Fruits and vegetables come in their own environmentally friendly packaging. Fruit or vegetable scraps can also be composted or used in a worm farm. You can also help the environment by choosing produce without foam trays or plastic containers.

Selecting delicious fresh produce Here are some tips on choosing the best fresh fruit and vegetables for taste and storage: select fruit and vegetables that feel firm, smell nice and look fresh small or medium size fruit make good choices for children choose vegetables that snap rather than bend avoid any fruit or vegetables that are limp, split or feel spongy.
