FRIDAY FLYER Blessed Trinity Catholic School December 7, 2018 Follow us on Social Media: facebook/btschool @BTSocala From the Principal’s Desk Hello BT Families, My heart is still so full from our day yesterday! It was as one of our first graders said, “The best Stewardship Day ever.” There was so much work that went into planning and in the actual day yesterday – our volunteers and staff were running around all day – that we were exhausted by 3:00. But, it was the very best kind of tired – when you are happy and your heart is content, because you know it was such a good day. I cannot even put into words what it was like to see these sweet little hands making peanut butter sandwiches and trail mix yesterday, or watch our 3 rd – 5 th grade students write inspirational notes and tie it to the bags of trail mix, or see our older students work with their prayer partners throughout the day and really look after them and help them. At the end of the day, we met in the gym to watch two videos about the working poor and homeless, and then the students went through and packaged up the food in the bags that they had made out of T-shirts. When it was all said and done, they wrote letters to Elder Care, wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, and BT Nalweyo students; they made advent wreaths with their prayer partners; they exercised and learned about good nutrition; and they packaged more than 600 bags of food for the homeless in our community. They worked so hard all day long, and still at the end of the day they were all telling us “Thank you”. It was all they said yesterday afternoon – “Thank you for giving us this experience.” “Thank you for planning such a great day.” They were AMAZING, and I am so very proud of them, and so blessed that I got to share this day with them. As we look to next week, we have a few more events that will help us to continue to prepare our hearts for Jesus this Advent. Saturday, December 8 th – Feast of the Immaculate Conception – Father Pat has asked us to remind everyone to attend Mass for this Holy Day of Obligation. There are three masses on Saturday: 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 12:10 pm. Tuesday, December 11 th – School Penance Service – 1:00-3:00 PM for grades 3-8 only Friday, December 14 th – Christmas Drive Dress Out Day o Our Student Council members have come up with a great idea. Friday will be a Christmas Dress Out Day – wear your best Christmas T-shirt or sweater – you can even wear a Christmas onesie, but no pajamas please. All other BT dress out day rules apply. The difference for this dress out is that instead of money, we are asking for an unwrapped toy as the donation. o K-5 will bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. o 6 th -8 th grade are asked to bring a gift for our Teen Drive. This is something we have done for the past few years as teens are a group that is often overlooked in Christmas Drives. If you need ideas for teens think of things like: make-up, nail polish, football, basketball, board games, etc. Click here for our school calendar Click here for our lunch menus

From the Principal’s Desk

Hello BT Families,

My heart is still so full from our day yesterday! I cannot even put into words what it was like to see these sweet little hands making peanut butter sandwiches and trail mix yesterday, or watch our 3rd – 5th grade students write inspirational notes and tie it to the bags of trail mix, or see our older students work with their prayer partners throughout the day and really look after them and help them.

Habit 3: Put First Things First The first three habits build upon each other. Habit 1 says, “You are the driver, not the passenger.” Habit 2 says, “Decide where you want to go and draw a map to get you there.” Habit 3 says, “Get there! Don’t let roadblocks knock you off course.” One way to avoid roadblocks is to differentiate between things that are urgent and things that are important? Important – your most important things, your first things, activities that contribute to your mission and goals. (studying, writing that research paper, exercising, praying) Urgent – pressing things, in-your-face things, activities that demand immediate attention. (phone calls, social media, interruptions, other people’s problems) We live in a society that is addicted to urgency. It’s the NOW generation. Urgent things aren’t bad. The problem comes when we become so focused on urgent things that we put off important things that aren’t urgent. For example, we put off studying for our exams or writing that paper to answer our phone or send a Snapchat. Habit 3 teaches us that the better organized you are, the more you can accomplish. Look at everything you have to do and then prioritize, making sure your first things get done first. By planning ahead, you can usually stay on top of things. Control, balance and high performance are three indicators you are applying Habit 3.

Our THIRD "The Leader in Me" Parent Training is Thursday -- PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND!

We had a fantastic turnout for last month's parent session of "The Leader in Me". This month we are focusing on Habit 3: Put First Things First.

The class is Thursday, December 6th, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.in the Media Center. Your

school age children can go to Aftercare for the hour for FREE! There will be yummy refreshments and lots of community building so please try your best to be join us. The research shows that if you are reinforcing the leadership concepts at home, it is more likely that they will become HABITS! Please plan to attend. And if you happened to miss last month's, you can still join us.

Father Pat’s 3rd Sacrament Meeting

Sacraments

Attention All Students in Need of Off Year Sacraments (RCIC) After submitting and registering for the off-year Sacraments, Wednesday afternoons a class will be offered in which students will be picked up in front of the BT Elementary bldg. and taken to the Community Center for approximately one hour of instruction. This will begin Wednesday, September 5th from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Upon completion please specify if your student will be picked up from there or needs to be taken to After Care. IT’S NOT TOO LATE to still sign up. If you have any questions you can contact Cyndi Sieger; 352-629-8092 ext. 3207 or [email protected].

Students Receiving the Sacraments at Blessed Trinity

Mass participation is a big part of the faith formation of a child. Students in our G.I.F.T. program and Blessed

Trinity School who are receiving a sacrament this year are asked to attend Mass weekly. After Mass

STUDENTS will be asked to have a “Mass Attendance” form signed by the officiating priest or deacon. These

forms can be picked up upon leaving the church from the bulletin cart. Please make sure the date, your

name, and the teacher are listed. These forms will be turned in on a weekly basis to your classroom teacher

or G.I. F.T. teacher. If you are visiting a church other than Blessed Trinity, please have a bulletin from that

church signed by the officiating priest and return it to your teacher. Teachers will be monitoring attendance

beginning the weekend of, 9/8th and 9/9th.

Children’s Ministry Children's Ministry is looking for volunteers to help spread the weekly gospel message to our youngest parishioners. The commitment is approximately 1-2 times per month during the 11:00 mass. Volunteers are needed to help lead the weekly discussion (teaching materials are provided) and to help supervise. Please contact Annie Menjivar at [email protected] if you're interested in joining our ministry!
