FRIDAY FLYER Blessed Trinity Catholic School April 27, 2018 Follow us on Social Media: facebook/btschool @BTSocala From the Principal’s Desk Hello BT Families and Happy Friday! Can you believe it? It’s already the end of April. It is amazing how quickly this year has gone by. As we head into May, we have some very exciting activities planned for our Faculty and Students that we wanted to make you aware of: 1. IOWA scores were sent home today (Please see the IOWA Test section below for more information). We had planned to have a May the 4 th Star Wars themed party for any student who showed growth on the IOWA test. Well, our students did so amazing. Almost every student in grades 3-8 showed growth in at least one area. Additionally, our K-2 nd grade students have been charting their own individual reading and math goals and most of them have met those goals. So, to celebrate all of our students, all of our students will get to participate in our May the 4 th Celebration. All students, Kindergarten through 8 th grade will get to wear their Star Wars attire on Friday. (No masks or lightsabers are allowed). We will be showing Star Wars movies during lunch and will also provide some special treats for all of our amazing students. We are so proud of all of the work they have done this year and we want to honor all of them! 2. May 7 th -May 11 th is a BT Spirit Week and Staff Appreciation Week. It is going to be an awesome week! We will have dress out days each day of the week. Students can bring in a minimum donation of $5 to participate in the dress out days for the week. The money that is raised will be sent to our class adopted students from our sister school, BT Uganda. Here is a list of the dress out days, so you can start planning: a. Monday: Decade Day – dress up in clothes from your favorite decade b. Tuesday: Celebrity Day – dress up like your favorite celebrity c. Wednesday: Sports Day – because this is a Mass Day, we ask that you wear your favorite sports team jersey or shirt. (No hats allowed) d. Thursday: Disney Day – dress up in your favorite Disney gear e. Friday: BT Spirit Day – this is an extreme dress out day – face paint and hair dye will be allowed! From the Principal’s Desk Hello BT Families and Happy Friday!

Can you believe it? It’s already the end of April. It is amazing how quickly this year has gone by. As we head into May, we have some very exciting activities planned for our Faculty and Students that we wanted to make you aware of:

1. IOWA scores were sent home today (Please see the IOWA Test section below for more information). We had planned to have a May the 4th Star Wars themed party for any student who showed growth on the IOWA test. Well, our students did so amazing. Almost every student in grades 3-8 showed growth in at least one area. Additionally, our K-2nd grade students have been charting their own individual reading and math goals and most of them have met those goals. So, to celebrate all of our students, all of our students will get to participate in our May the 4th Celebration. All students, Kindergarten through 8th grade will get to wear their Star Wars attire on Friday. (No masks or lightsabers are allowed). We will be showing Star Wars movies during lunch and will also provide some special treats for all of our amazing students. We are so proud of all of the work they have done this year and we want to honor all of them!

2. May 7th-May 11th is a BT Spirit Week and Staff Appreciation Week. Wednesday: Sports Day – because this is a Mass Day, we ask that you wear your favorite

sports team jersey or shirt. (No hats allowed) d. Thursday: Disney Day – dress up in your favorite Disney gear e. Friday: BT Spirit Day – this is an extreme dress out day – face paint and hair dye will be

allowed!

2. May 7th-11th continued…

Also scheduled for that week is a visit from Children’s Author, Keith Roman on Tuesday (a flyer is included below), our Music in the Schools Concert on Tuesday, and Field Day on Friday. Parents are invited to come and watch Field Day and we have a special request that we need your help with. Because students will be competing in events outside at the field and will have to wait their turn with their class, we are in need of 12 pop-up party tents to help shade the students. If you have one (or more) that we could use, please email Coach Starling at [email protected]. The Field Day schedule is as follows: 9:00 – 9:45: Kindergarten 10:00 – 11:00: 3rd and 4th grade 11:00 – 12:00: 1st and 2nd grade 12:30 – 1:30: 5th and 6th grade 1:45 – 2:45: 7th and 8th grade

In addition to Spirit Week, we will also be celebrating our Staff Appreciation Week. We will be honoring our staff with a sweet treat or goodie each day. We would also like to provide breakfast one morning and lunch one day. Our Student Council is sponsoring dessert on Wednesday, May 9th. If you know of a business or group who would like to sponsor breakfast or lunch, please let me know. I also know that many of you like to give your student’s teacher something during this week. I know, as a parent, that this can be stressful, trying to pick out just the right gift to say thank you. So, we have tried to help you with this. Attached is a link to a spread sheet with all of the staff at BT and some of their likes and dislikes. My daughter’s school did this last year and it was such a blessing to be able to get her teacher a little something that she liked each day during the week. There are still a few staff who haven’t filled it out, so we will be sure to send an updated list next week.

Thank you all for all that you continue to do to support our school. We are so grateful to you!

Megan Losito

Principal, Blessed Trinity Catholic School

Children’s Author: Keith Roman

BT Spirit Week

May 7th-11th is BT Spirit Week. Mrs. Losito’s letter above has a great deal of information regarding the week’s activities. To summarize, we will have categorized dress-outs on each day. Students must bring a minimum $5 donation, which will allow them to participate in dress-out days all week. The donations will go to our sister school, Blessed Trinity Uganda. The dress-out categories are as follows:

Monday: Decade Day – dress up in clothes from your favorite decade

Tuesday: Celebrity Day – dress up like your favorite celebrity

Wednesday: Sports Day – because this is a Mass Day, we ask that you wear your favorite sports team jersey or shirt. (No hats allowed)

Thursday: Disney Day – dress up in your favorite Disney gear

Friday: BT Spirit Day – this is an extreme dress out day – face paint and hair dye will be allowed!

Finally, on Friday, May 11th, we will have our Field Day and Jump Rope for heart event. The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, from the American Heart Association, will begin this Monday, April 30th and will conclude with the final day of donations on Thursday, May 10th. Students will bring home an information packet with fundraising instructions beginning this Monday. We will conclude the fundraiser with the Field Day/Jump Rope for Heart event that Friday, May 11th. Grade levels will meet at the Field for the events. Parents are invited to join us and cheer on their students. In an effort to keep the students shaded, we are asking parents who have pop-up party tents if they might be able to bring them. If you would be willing to bring a tent, please email Coach Starling at [email protected]. Grade levels will come to the field at the following times:

9:00 – 9:45 Kindergarten 10:00 – 11:00 3rd and 4th Grade 11:00 – 12:00 1st and 2nd Grade 12:30 – 1:30 5th and 6th Grade 1:45 – 2:45 7th and 8th Grade

IOWA Test Results

Today, you will receive your child’s Iowa Test scores (2nd

-8th

grade)

for your student. Please keep in mind the results of these tests

provide a snapshot of your student’s achievement at the time the tests

were given and do not reflect the full profile of your student as a

learner. We collect multiple data points over the course of the school year that, when coupled with Iowa Assessment

scores, provide a more comprehensive view of your student’s growth and achievement. The Iowa Assessments,

however, are an indicator of your student’s current level of achievement.

End of Year Trip

Big News! The middle schoolers selected Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon for our end of year trip. The trip is Sunday, May 6th, starting with the 7:15 Mass and returning to BT at 6pm. More information and registration details will be emailed this Wednesday to those who qualify (75% attendance requirement). Due to generous donations the cost is only $30. Payment and complete registration will be due by April 25th (admission and transportation included).

Catholic Heart Work Camp (CHWC)

BT’s CHWC mission is looking for one or two chaperones for this summer’s mission trip. The dates are June 17-22, in Hardeeville, SC. This is a great opportunity to witness to our teens and work alongside them to help others in the communities surrounding Hardeeville. It would be a shame to have to turn down some of our teens who want to go on this trip due to lack of chaperones. Please contact Jane Hoesterey (email us to get contact information).

NEW Altar Server Training

5:30pm-7:00pm – Wed, Apr 25; Wed, May 2; Wed May 16; and Wed, May, 30

Mr. Westgate will be training new altar servers Starting Wednesday April 25th , from 5:30-7:00pm in the church. Altar serving is open to any Catholic youth that is currently finishing 4th grade-11th grade. Your serving commitment is 1-2 masses per 8 week schedule cycle and additional masses during the busier holiday times. This is a wonderful ministry focused on learning the Mass in detail, while serving at the Altar of Our Lord. We look forward to all those youth ready to share their time and talent with our ministry. We will have a short parent/student meeting on Wednesday, April 25th at 5:30pm in the church, immediately followed by the first training session. Please email [email protected] to register and reserve your spot for training or if you have any questions. Space is limited to 12 students and attendance is required for each of the 4 training sessions. If we do have a larger class, alternative training dates may be scheduled, but would still consist of attending four training sessions.
