The Holy RosaryThe Rosary is a form of prayer in which we meditate on the life, death and resurrection of our Lord.

In the Rosary we meditate on Christ as we ask for the Blessed Mother to pray for us.

The Apostles’ CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Our FatherOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail MaryHail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Glory BeGlory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Fatima PrayerO my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven especially those who are in most need of thy mercy.

The Hail, Holy QueenHail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Meditations for the Rosary

The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony of Jesus in the Garden Jesus went to a place called Gethsemane to pray. “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will.” (Mt 26:36-46)

• When you are having doubts and thoughts of loneliness do you turn to God?

• How can you accept God’s will as your own?

The Scourging at the Pillar The chief priests with the elders and the scribes held a council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, had Jesus scourged and handed him over to be crucified. (Mk 15:1-16)

• How have you let pressures from society interfere with your relationship with Christ?

• As a follower of Christ, are you willing to be persecuted in his name?

Jesus is Crowned with Thorns They stripped off his clothes and threw a scarlet military cloak about him. Weaving a crown out of thorns, they placed it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” (Mt 27:27-31)

• How can we stand by those who are persecuted?

• Do you follow Jesus without reservation?

Jesus Carried the Cross Jesus, weak from being beaten, was unable to carry His cross to Golgotha alone. Simon, a Cyrenian, helped him. (Mk 15:20-22)

• Do you allow Jesus to share the burden of your cross?

• How can you walk with others in the midst of their hardships?

The Crucifixion of our Lord When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” (Lk 23:33-46)

• How can we embody God’s mercy in difficult situations?

• Are we aware of the consequences of our actions?

Introductions at Verizon Center and DC Armory

Greeting In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R./ Amen. Peace be with you. R./ And with your spirit.

Penitential Act

CollectLiturgy of the Word

First Reading • Primera Lectura Jeremiah 1:4-10(in English)

The word of the Lord. R./ Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm (sung, led by cantor) Psalm 40

R./ Here am I Lord: here am I, Lord. I come to do your will.

10

Second Reading • Segunda Lectura Romans 12:1-2 (in Spanish at the Verizon Center)

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship.

Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.

Palabra del Señor. R./ Te alabamos Señor.

Acclamation Before the Gospel: Mass of Restoration

The Lord be with you. R./ And with your spirit.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew. R./ Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospel • Evangelio Matthew 19:16-22(in English)

The Gospel of the Lord. R./ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

GOOD GOOD FATHER

I’ve heard a thousand stories Of what they think You’re like But I’ve heard the tender whisper Of love in the dead of night And You tell me that You’re pleased And that I’m never alone You’re a good good Father It’s who You are It’s who You are It’s who You are

And I’m loved by You It’s who I am It’s who I am It’s who I am

You are perfect in all of Your ways You are perfect in all of Your ways You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Love so undeniable I, I can hardly speak Peace so unexplainable I, I can hardly think As you call me deeper still As you call me deeper still As you call me deeper still Into love, love, love

HERE I AM, LORD

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night I will go Lord, if You lead me I will hold Your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain I have wept for love of them, They turn away I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak My word to them, Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame I will set a feast for them, My hand will save Finest bread I will provide, Til their hearts be satisfied I will give My life to them, Whom shall I send?

Guidelines for Receiving Holy Communion (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops)

For Catholics As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (canon 916). A frequent reception of the Sacrament of Penance is encouraged for all.

For our fellow Christians We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ’s prayer for us “that they may all be one” (Jn 17:21).

Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 § 4). Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of communion by Christians of these Churches (canon 844 § 3).

For those not receiving Holy CommunionAll who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another.

For non-ChristiansWe also welcome to this celebration those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ. While we cannot admit them to Holy Communion, we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family.

Prayer After Communion

RecessionalLOVE WILL HEAL

Who knew there’d be a day Where we’d have to fight for this To be the voice of righteousness To speak for those unheard

For all our beating hearts Began in the same love No one should take away from us The simple right to live

Hear our voice We are one We will fight until we’ve won

Love will heal every heart We will fight until we’ve won until we’ve won

Our history is burdened by all the violence The hatred and defiance of The love for which we’re made

But we are here to be the ears for the broken The voice for those unspoken The future can be peace

Only love can change hearts Let your peace be the spark

Today is the day where we will fight for this Be the voice of righteousness Speak for those unheard

You hear me when I call You are my morning song Though darkness fills the night It cannot hide the light Whom shall I fear?

You crush the enemy Underneath my feet You are my sword and shield Though troubles linger still Whom shall I fear?

I know who goes before me I know who stands behind The God of angel armies Is always by my side

The One who reigns forever He is a friend of mine The God of angel armies Is always by my side
