The Priory Spring Play was the must see production of the school year. Mrs. Raley chose one of Shakespeare’s better comedies, Much Ado About Nothing. With Brother Sixtus’ help concerning the set design, the small cast set to work on its construction. If you’ve been in the theatre recently or if you went to the show you saw the fruits of weeks and weeks of tough labor. Thanks to all the carpenters and members of the cast who made it one of the cooler sets I have ever seen at Priory. If you saw the show you had to notice the period-style work Mrs. Conway (mother of Dan, ’04) did on costumes. I looked like the Travelocity gnome and I could not have been happier.

Assassin’s Creed could easily be one of the best action, adventures games ever made. It was released in November of 2007 with very humble expectations, but completely destroyed the competition for that year, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. The game today is still ranked among the top ten games for the PS3 Console and is in the top 25 for the Xbox 360. Though with all its success, Assassin’s Creed had many problems that came with it. While the story line was interesting, the missions themselves became very repetitive and the fights were the same, not to mention the cliff hangar at the end of the game. But regardless of the game’s downturns, Ubisoft has announced the sequel, Assassin’s Creed 2, to be released in Christmas 2009. It has been announced to be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSPS, and the PC. Unlike the last game, where you played as the assassin Altair in the middle of the crusades, this takes place about 2-3 hundred years later in the middle of the Renaissance, only this time you are playing as Altair’s descendent, Ezio. Various features have been changed about this game; Ubisoft has put a lot of effort into correcting the first game’s criticisms. First off, the combat will be far more

interesting as now the only two weapons that you have are your hidden blades (you now have 2) and your throwing knives, all other weapons are acquired by disarming the various enemies in the game. The enemies aren’t as stupid as before you could just hide in a little boxed off area and no guards would find you. But now several enemies will check these spots if you have blown your cover. In addition, Ubisoft has made the cities of the game much larger than before, all are based off of real-life pictures of cities, making them highly detailed. Along with these large cities come a large variety of missions that can be acquired from the county-side of all the various cities you will visit. There is also a new system of ‘notoriety’ that has been added to the game. Now, when you blow cover or complete missions, wanted posters and guards will make it much harder for you to maintain secrecy, so now the player must complete side missions to decreases the notoriety level. Finally, as a quick addition by Ubisoft, the game has been given a cycle of night and day. Even though it has just been announced, for all the fans of the first game, Assassin’s Creed 2 is not available for order reserve at most games stores in the area.

Hello sports fans! Welcome to the first installment in a (hopefully) long running series. To give you a short brief, I will pass judgement on five things in a category. Now, without further ado, the moment which you have (hopefully) been waiting for since you were born, the first judgment. Category: Moral Panics.1: Dungeons and Dragons is Satanic- Ah, the eighties, a time of troubles, moral majorities, Bloom County, and general all round wackiness. Including what is quite possibly the craziest thing I have ever heard, except for “the giggus”. According to several loonies, the dungeons

and dragons handbook taught real magic. It also apparently indoctrinated kids into Satanism. The logic behind it was that the book taught you how to use the spells (by saying their names), and that it contained many references to demons and Satan. They failed to take into account that the Bible also references demons and Satan quite often (don’t tell this to those guys, they might try to ban it). To wrap it all up, it stirred up a huge media frenzy until people realized how crazy it was. 2: Rock Music is Satanic- Once again, another product of the eighties.

~ Alexandre Todorov ’10Arbitrarily Judgementalitastic

Yesterday, since all but two of my fellow X-Squadders decided to depart from school after they were finished with their AP exams (psh), I decided to fulfill my daily bout of exercise by playing a rousing game of HORSE with a Mr. Alexandre Todorov. Alas, I was drawn into this “game” (I’m not fond of games, see my next column) by Toad’s irresistibly contagious optimism and the fact that his hand-eye coordination did not exceed mine by far.

After a bitingly close loss, Toad proceeded to curse the basketball we had been using (in what language I’m not sure, but it was clear that he was angry at the ball). Mr. Bussen, who had been watching the ordeal, wryly and accurately noted that the ball would not feel insulted, for while it had lost in this match (for Toad), it had also won (for myself). The ball

was 1-1. Which led me to think—How many times per day are we betrayed by ordinary objects? Granted, sometimes we do stupid things with objects and we get hurt (see future article, “How not to use pipe cleaners”), but sometimes our everyday tools, thought to be trusted, can be real jerks. This morning I woke up practically strangled by my sheets. Then the door ran into me when I tried to walk into the bathroom. And I’m positive my toothbrush gave me a funny look.

Inanimate objects have no moral compass by which to function! They’ve got nothing to lose! What’s keeping them from getting together with the “laws of physics,” disregarding our wants, and taking over!? Think about it. Stay wary. And plan! Just stay out of sight of the dishwasher while you’re doing so. You never know.

With our Blues out of the playoffs, beaten by the Canucks closer than the series score actually was, the next round promises to be great . In the Western Conference quarterfinals, two very offensively talented teams will battle it out: the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks. The Red Wings took care of the Columbus Blue Jackets their first round opponent, sweeping them with ease. The Ducks have many experienced players from their 2007 Cup run, including former Blue Chris Pronger, Scott Neidermeyer, and Teemu Selane. The next matchup features the Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Canucks beat the Blues thanks to Roberto Lulongo in the first round. He had an incredible 1.5 GAA and a

95 SV%. The young Blackhawks team is thriving in their first playoff action in more than 5 years, as they took care of the Calgary Flames in the first round in 6 games. In the East, the Boston Bruins will face off against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Bruins look to be the favorites, with a very talented team offensively and defensively. The next series is one people have been looking forward to these past couple of years: the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals. Both these teams are very dynamic offensively. The stars of the series will battle it out with the Crosby vs Ovechkin rivalry getting even more heated as more is at stake.

Varsity Baseball Update~ Ragen Frost ’09

Priory Rebels Baseball started off the season on cloud nine, when they discovered they were going to be the best looking team in the ABC league. With their new high quality jerseys and strong returning senior class the Rebels were hoping for a good season. They took two of their first three games, but after this good start they experienced a six game losing streak. However, the Rebels tasted victory for the third time versus a Whitfield team that they had previously lost to.

The defense made plays, the bats were hot, and star pitcher Brendan “Shrek” McDermott pitched a one run complete game.

Since the six game losing streak, the Rebels are 5-5. They have shown at times they can be a force to be reckoned with, however, these past ten games have been about the Rebels regaining their confidence.

Having won the last two games against quality opponents, the Rebels are doing just that. Now, the seniors are leading by example as the season comes to a close, and as districts are just around the corner. The Rebels look to continue their recent success, and show that they are not a team to be taken lightly in districts.

Team of the Week

Joe Wagner earns Athlete of the week for his performance and dedication to the Frisbee team over this past weekend and the course of year. His a b i l i t y i n b o t h throwing and catching the Frisbee, not to mention jumping, was arguably the most impress ive in the Finals against Desmet and will surely be missed.

The Jeromans win the team of the week after clinching their third straight finish as the second best team in the state, even with many schools offering it as a full time sport. The Jeromans also won the Spirit award for the second time in four years, ensuring a promising future for the team in the years to come.

Athlete of the Week

...to give them a run for their money. DUC, a team who had not been in a losing position to another high school team all year year went down 2-1 to the Jeromans, but had a strong surge to take the first half 8-4. A tired Priory team got fired up however, and came alive. DUC, a team ranked in the top 10 in the nation for high schools, could not deter the dreaded Dan Noyes flick to Joey W a g n e r , c o u l d n o t t h r o w o v e r M i k e Puettmann, could not t o s s a r o u n d D r e w Sexton, and soon found themselves tied at 13 a piece. However, with a Dan Noyes injury due to c r a m p i n g a n d a n exhausted Jeroman starting line, Desmet was able to pull out two more point to win

themselves the title for the second straight year, the Jeromans settling for second for the

third straight year. Even with this high level of c o m p e t i v e n e s s , t h e Jeromans still won the Spirit Award, an award s i g n i f y i n g t h e b e s t sportsmanship, humility, and overall friendliness within the game. This is the first time a top two

finisher has ever won it, and is the second time in four years the Jeromans have won this prestigious award. DUC trophies earned: 1. Jeromans trophies earned: 2. You be the judge. So congratulations to the Jeromans for a near perfect season of 13-1, outscoring their opponents 208-89. Thanks to all the fans who came out.0, .5, 1 Jeromans…

The golf team suffered a lost to MICDS at Bellerive in tough conditions, which resulted in a tie for ABC league title between Priory and MICDS. They bounced back, however, in a win over Lutheran South at Quail Creek. Hopefully this win will give the team the confidence to succeed in Districts on Thursday. In order to send the team to State, the golf team must pull out a victory over Westminster and MICDS, two worthy district opponents. If the team does not come out with a win, they will probably be sending a couple of members, depending on their scores.

In the practice rounds at Forest Park, where Districts is being played, Bobby Jones shot 37 and 38, and Stephen Theisen shot 38. If they come out with scores like these at Districts, they will definitely be heading to Fremont Country Clubs in Nixa for State. Mason Meiners, Clayton Petti and Peter Jochens are also heading to Forest Park on Thursday for District. Hopefully they can pull out some good scores to beat Westminster and MICDS. If Bobby Jones and Stephen Theisen shoot 3-over or better on 18 and the three Sophomores shoot 82 or better, then Priory should take 1st.

Apparently, if you played rock music backwards, you can hear messages urging you to worship satan. This also created a huge media frenzy, until people finally came to their right minds, and decided to stop listening to people that tell you that God will take them to heaven unless they get eight million dollars. The only good thing that came of this, besides seeing uptight televangelists get humiliated, was a Bloom County strip where the characters do play a rock song backwards, and there is a secret message. The message: “Go to church and say your prayers”. Enough said. 3: Ballroom Dancing is Lewd and Sinful- Yup, back in the day (Mr. Schake can tell you all about it) the raunchiest thing around was ballroom dancing. Yes, you heard me right, ballroom dancing. People were afraid that dancing while touching the hands of your partner was sinful, and would lead to general wickedness, the end of the world, and the cubs winning the world series (not really, Satan will be ice skating before this happens). Once a couple of years had passed, and the four horsemen still had not swept o’er the land, people began to warm up to ballroom dancing. 4: The Red Scare- I’m running out of space, so I will be brief. After the russkies got the bomb, America began to panic. Apparently, there were communists among us! Who knew who was a yankee-doodle-dandy or a

member of the international communist conspiracy. So, America, which had one of the smallest communist parties in the world, launched the worlds largest red hunt, complete with a blacklist of Hollywood actors who may have had red tendencies, and the list of 200 (or was it 178? Or 231? The number of people on the list changed every time it was brought up) government officials who were reds, which McCarthy always trumpeted, but never actually had on hand.5: Rainbow Parties- The final moral panic is also the most recent one, and probably the craziest. On one fine day in October of 2003, watchers of the Oprah Winfry show were introduced to the concept of the “rainbow party”. I am not going to go into the details, but lets just say it involves several teens, and a complete disregard for your own decency. However, there was one problem: there had never been any evidence that these parties happened, there wasn’t even an urban legend! Nonetheless, the media jumped on the “teenagers are doing something sinful” bandwagon, and soon every parent in America was wondering if their teen was doing this sort of thing. Ironically, all this moral panic did was give some teens a new way to do something immoral, not that they were lacking of choices in the first place.

As the season prepares to come to an end, all the latest transfer rumors are beginning to develop before the transfer window opens June 1st. Having failed to sign him in January, Manchester City will probably try again to sign the Brazilian Kaka having had their record $200 million bid turned down. However they will have to compete with Real Madrid as they have also expressed their interest in him. Another big player who the Spaniards are interested in is Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United. Madrid came very close to signing him last Summer but failed after Man U refused to sell their star player. However, it is rumored that Man U are set to bid 60 million for Bayern Munich winger Frank Ribery, suggesting that he could be the man to replace Ronaldo should he go to Spain. Elsewhere, Arsenal forward Emanuel Adebayor looks certain to go to AC Milan as Arsenal look to replace him with the Dutch forward, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. All in all it should be a busy summer, without any major international tournaments this year, there is more time for the clubs to buy, and with all of the money circulating in the game now, despite the recession, we could very well see the most money ever spent in the transfer window.
