• Why I chose DPS…– One of my top 4 films that made
me want to become a teacher.• #1: Dead Poets Society• #2: Lean on Me• #3: Stand and Deliver• #4: Freedom Writers
10/29 Viewing
• Why I chose DPS…– Nostalgia: a wishing to go back to
“simpler” times.– This film does a good job with
showing you how the 1950’s really were—they had the same problems as us—it was NOT a simpler time!
10/29 Viewing
• Why I chose DPS…– Carpe Diem: Seize the Day!– Don’t waste a single day—life is
short!– Poem:
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,Old Time is still a-flying:And this same flower that smiles todayTomorrow will be dying.
--Robert Herrick
10/29 Viewing
• Why I chose DPS…– Love of Poetry– Poetry is expression without form
—this film gave me an interest in studying poetry and writing it.
– “Uncle Walt” / “W.W.” = Walt Whitman, a poet in the late 19th century
10/29 Viewing
• Why I chose DPS…– “Coming of Age” story
– Everyone in here will grow up at some point (some sooner than others).
– The characters in this story grow up just like us—they have problems and come to revelations about their lives.
10/29 Viewing
• Why I chose DPS…– “Coming of Age” story
– Indeed, so much so that (like you), the choices they make have consequences for the rest of their lives.
