Some counsellors have an exercise that they give couples who are struggling with communication. They suggest that each partner acknowledges appreciation for the other by showing gratitude. They ask each one to write down all the specific things that they appreciate in the other. It’s amazing how it makes you really look at the other person and be thankful for all the small things. The exercise helps you see the other person more clearly, resulting in a closer connection. Gratitude deepens the bonds in a relationship, whether with a person or with God. Why not take some time this week to write down all the things that you personally are grateful to God for? I am sure that it will be amazing how many things you have on your lists! It will deepen your relationship with God and the words of the psalmist will ring true for you. Then, as you say or sing ‘thank you’ to God – you know exactly what you are expressing gratitude for! Happy Thanks-Living! Peace, Gail

From the Student Minister’s Desk Expressing Gratitude to God!

I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.

I will thank you forever, because of what you have done.” (Psalm 52:8b-9a)

At thanksgiving we often think about saying thank you. My mother always taught me that saying thank you was good manners and part of being polite. But when we say thank you to God, it is not just because we are being polite, it’s because we have a deep desire to express our gratitude. Think of all the hymns and prayers that say thank you to God. But now think about how often you sing those songs with little thought for the words?

They ask each one to write down all the specific things that they appreciate in the other. It’s amazing how it makes you really look at the other person and be thankful for all the small things. The exercise helps you see the other person more clearly, resulting in a closer connection.

Gratitude deepens the bonds in a relationship, whether with a person or with God. Why not take some time this week to write down all the things that you personally are grateful to God for? I am sure that it will be amazing how many things you have on your lists! It will deepen your relationship with God and the words of the psalmist will ring true for you. Happy Thanks-Living!

New Announcements

Are you Looking For A Way to Get Involved? It is so wonderful that Knox is such a friendly place with smiling faces. In order to continue that warm welcome, we are looking for 2 Greeters each Sunday to give folks a warm handshake and pass out the bulletin. If you feel that you could do that one week, please sign up on the sheet on the board outside the church office. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up for October!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you comfortable running the AV system on a Sunday. We will train you! If so, please sign up on the board outside the church office. This a great opportunity if you know any student that needs community service hours too!
Knox Church Ayr in commemoration of Remembrance Day and in conjunction with the Ayr Paris Band and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Fund, will be hosting a community concert on Wednesday November 9th.
You can contribute in two great ways. Either plan to attend the concert with your family and neighbours, or plan to sing the Community Choir that is being formed for participation in the choir. Singers are invited to attend 4 practices beginning Sunday Oct 16th to prepare three pieces for the concert. Practices will be in the Knox Sanctuary beginning at 7pm.
For more information, contact Merry and Mike at 519 632 9609.
We are looking forward to meeting the Hejjo family on November 13th (Syrian refugee family). Please check the Church in Action Committee bulletin board for an update that was recently included in Trinity's newsletter.
Daytime Bible Study at Knox, Ayr Mustard Seeds
Would anyone like to join us at Mustard Seeds, a small group Bible study on Tuesday afternoons in our Library at Knox Church? Join in the discussion and fellowship as we talk about salvation, the many reasons why Jesus came to earth, adoption, redemption and justification through Christ and other biblical topics. Many of these subjects have been touched on briefly in church, but having a deeper biblical understanding of these things may bring us to a more intimate relationship with Christ. No homework! Everyone welcome.
Location: Knox United, Ayr -- Library Room
KNOX KINDRED SPIRITS......OCTOBER MEETING/WORKSHOP
Hello all just your monthly update on what Knox kindred Spirit Ladies got up to for our October meeting. We had a wonderful devotional read by Kate Cressman and a welcome to all from the chair ...we followed that with a short treasurers report and then into new business. It was announced that if a group of ladies from Knox are interested in going to a Fall Fashion show at the Meadow Acres garden centre that Kate Cressman has tickets and a table of 8 or so could enjoy a wonderful October 30th afternoon...more info is up on the bulletin board across from the Fellowship hall. The October night out to the Theatre is being well attended by 29 members/friends of Knox and we are grateful for Debbie Martsch for putting this together for us. We also talked briefly about the info in regards to doing “shoe boxes” for Christmas for children overseas this info will also be up on the bulletin board...We had a closing prayer by Betty Butcher and got right into doing two projects...
1. Making lovely colourful cotton caps for women to wear as they go through chemo, these caps fit nicely and are so colourful that it is spirit boosting ...Sue Martsch was in charge of this and got ironing, cutting and sewing stations set up and all the ladies enjoyed so much doing some caps and knowing the outreach to others in need is there and we can in a small way help.
2. We had Mary Weidner also talk to and show us knitters how to make a prosthesis for women after they have had surgery , a little complicated but once you got onto the repetition of the knitting it was great..
Of course goodies and refreshments were available and enjoyed by all and we were home watching the Blue Jays by 9:15 !! Thanks so much everyone.. also thanks to Glenyce Maus for flowers for Sept ...just beautiful, cheers, Janet Furlong
Your Spiri tual Corner Giving Thanks to God
Page 8 Friday October 7, 2016
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34) Each of the four seasons – fall, winter, spring, and summer – demonstrate creation’s thankfulness to God for a job well done. The trees bow before heaven as their leaves fall gracefully to the ground. The glistening snowfall speaks of God’s majesty. Flowers of every kind bow low to the glory God in spring and summer warms to the glow of all the blessings God has to offer. What has God done for you? Take a moment and express your gratefulness to Him in your own way. Praise God, give Him glory, honour and praise. Thanks be to God. (Devotional: Everyday Blessings)
