September 27, 2015 Series: A Night At The Movies
"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Galatians 3:28
There have been more than a few times in my life that I was afraid, alt-hough rarely did I really have a reason to be frightened. Often when I'm scared, anxious or uncomfortable, it is at least in part to do with people who are different from myself. It seems that I'm not alone in this fear of those who are different and this fear often contributes to a whole host of cultural and societal problems throughout our country's past and pre-sent. Of course this phenomenon is nothing new, and certainly wasn't in-vented by Americans! The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Galatia, confronts this reality and affirms that because of our unity in Christ, whatever things may have divided us as people prior, no longer matter. For Paul, the unity we claim in Jesus, outweighs any other divisions the world might try to impose upon us. Today we're completing our Night at the Movies series by looking at this truth, claiming it as our own and seeing how our oneness in Christ might apply to our daily lives.
What We Believe
...the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.
...the one God we worship exists fundamentally within a community of the three per-sons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
…God’s son, Jesus, came to live among us as fully divine and fully human. His life, death, and resurrection points to and fulfills the good news of the freedom from sin and death, which we proclaim.
...we share one mission with Christians throughout time, to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
...it is into community (koinonia) that we have been called to coexist and through this community that we are able to truly manifest the body of Christ.
…wherever you are on your journey, we are here for one another!
“In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.”

MOPS* schedule September 10, 24 October 8, 22 at 9:oo am– 11:30 am Meets in Erdman Hall Childcare provided! info : [email protected]
*mother’s of preschoolers
On October 4th there will be the Out of Darkness Walk at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. This event honors loved ones lost as a result of suicide. It is also an important fundraiser to back educational, outreach and advocacy programs offered by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This non-profit or-ganization is the leader in this fight. They have community programs for teens and adults; also depression and bipolar awareness. For more information you can go to: www.afsp.org. Please consider a donation or support someone who is walking.
Suicide is a national healthcare problem that places an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers and communities. In the Unites States alone it is the 5th lead-ing cause of death among adults ages 18-65. It is also the 2nd leading cause among teens and young adults.
Contrary to popular belief, most people who attempt suicide have one or several warning signs that can be subtle or glaring. The more signs the greater the risk.
*Talk. They might mention having no reason to live or are a burden to others.
*Behavior. Increased use of alcohol or drugs, acting out, isolation from family and friends.
*Moods. Display one or more signs of anxiety, depression or irritability.
People who commit suicide have often told someone they are thinking of killing themselves. If you know someone in crisis or who is struggling with depression, have them call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Help is available 24 hrs/ 7 days a week. If an individual threatens immediate sui-cide, call 911 and stay with them until help arrives.
