Key activities for The Friends•Raising the profile of the Park•Increasing awareness of Kinneil House and Museum•Forming partnerships to promote/improve Kinneil•Delivering member events•Developing a strategy for the estate
Raising the profile of KinneilIn 2007/08,we:
• Actively promoted Kinneil Estate through the press and online, linking in with key events• As well as local coverage, Kinneil was featured on bbc.co.uk and in The Herald newspaper• Revamped our website at www.kinneil.org.uk
Raising the profile of Kinneil
Raising the profile of Kinneil• We also ran an art and photography competition to raise awareness of Kinneil Estate• The contest was supported by Historic Scotland and Falkirk Council – who gave prizes.• Our chair, Lynn Munro, also supported the contest and hosted the prizegiving and a Christmas party for members.
Raising the profile of KinneilIn the adult categories, Derek Freeman, of Roman Way, Bo’ness, took first place for best photograph; with John Donaldson of Bomar Avenue, winning the art prize.Mr Freeman produced a stunning landcape of the sun rising over the the “lay park” to the rear of Kinneil House.
Raising the profile of KinneilIn the junior section Iain Don (8), of Grangemouth Road, Bo’ness, took the photo prize for his composition, showing one of the woodland walks in the estate.
Chloe Nash (11), of Stewart Avenue, Bo’ness, captured the junior art prize with her vision of birdwatching on the west pond.
Increasing awareness•We ran five open days at Kinneil House – attracting 1700 people to the year ending April 2008•We worked with Historic Scotland to offer free entry and guided tours of the House.•This, in turn, boosted visitor numbers at Kinneil Museum to a ten-year high – 4526 people visited until the end of March.

Increasing awarenessOur vice-chair entered Kinneil into UKTV History’s online vote to find the 100 Best Historic buildings and places in the UK. We made the top 100 – beating many prominent local sites.
Forming partnerships
Forming partnerships•We teamed up with Stepforth to encourage them to run three-times-a-week free health walks around Kinneil Estate.•The walks now run every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, leaving outside Kinneil Museum•Details available from the Museum or from our website
Forming partnerships• We also worked in partnership with Bo’ness Community Council and Bonnie Bo’ness to do a litter pick in Kinneil Estate in April this year.• Fifty people attended, and 100 bags of litter were collected.• Best of all the park was radically improved for visitors.
Delivering member events• We ran a trip to Hamilton to visit Chatelherault near Hamilton • This was the Georgian hunting lodgefor Hamilton Palace – the sister Houseto Kinneil House.
Delivering member events
Delivering member events• We ran a Christmas party for all members – and also invited guests who had helped the Friends, as well as the winners of our art/photography competition• We are grateful to the 2007/08 chair, Lynn Munro, and her husband Trevor for hosting this party – which was a great success.
Delivering member events• We ran a further event in February – to involve members in the consultation over the future management of Kinneil Woods.• This led to the litter pick in the estate, two months later.
Delivering member events• We have communicated with members by email, letters and through our website.• We also set up a non-member email list to reach other supporters.
Developing a strategy• The Management Committee built on our 2006 park/museum survey to brainstorm ideas for the future development of Kinneil• This document has been tabled tonight for your comments and – hopefully – support• We are grateful to Lynn Munro and Anne Mahoney in particular for developing this document in conjunction with the rest of the committee.

The future . . .
The future• The Antonine Wall is bidding to become Scotland’s next World Heritage Site• An annoucement is expected in July• This could really put Kinneil on the international map.

Questions
• The Wall stretched from Bo’ness to OldKilpatrick and is a proposed World Heritage Site. Kinneil means “Wall’s End”.
