President’s Message
Spotlighting Dick Robinson
Hello everyone. Hope you are all well and happy. Thought for the day, Try and do a good deed for someone. You just might make that person happy, and you will feel good doing it. Who knows? They might just pay it forward. Our April dinner was a success despite the lack of attendance. The music was wonderful, and the food was scrumptious. Regis Ryan won the Spring Bonnet contest, and Diane Butler came in second. Congratulations to both. Tickets are now on sale for our Cinco de Mayo dinner on May 4th. Music will be provided by the Harbor City Band and our meal will be Mojo Pork and Spanish rice. Cost is only $9.00 for members and $12 for guests. Unfortunately, there will be no First Friday Dinners in June, July and August due to lack of participation. We will resume dinners in September—hopefully to a bigger crowd. Tickets will go on sale starting in August. The 50/50 winner at the April dinner was Rita McGinley. Rita graciously donated her winnings back to the Center. A special thank-you.
Have a great month and keep Smiling.
While writing this article Spotlighting Dick Robinson’s service to Wickham Park Senior Center, I learned more about the quiet man in the office, accountable for the finances of WPSC, as well as the history of WPSC. Dick started his story by telling me about receiving a Navy scholarship to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a Navy scholarship. With that gift came the privilege to give back three years’ service to the Navy. On completion of the three-year active duty, Dick continued to serve in the Reserve until retirement. On to a business career at IBM, and other business experiences in NY, then a move to Florida and Harris. Dick retired(?) in 2000. Sharing his wife’s advice for a happy life, “Find something to do out of the house” is the beginning of service to WPSC. He
began participating in Bridge activities at the time Senior Center, which was at NASA and Apollo. The lifelong attitude to know how things run led to assisting Betty Norwalk, Treasurer, at a time of high activity raising funds, planning and implementing the successful campaign to open the current WPSC facility. He became a member of the Board and continued to be the Treasurer after Betty retired. We are very Blessed to have Dick manage our funds. Enjoy many more years of Duplicate Bridge and number crunching, Dick!!

Join Duplicate Bridge in this Fund Raising Event
Over the last five years, the ACBL has raised more than $3.5 million for Alzheimer's disease research and support programs.
Wickham Park has chosen June 20th as our Longest Day Event this year. Will you join us in this fundraising event? Our duplicate bridge club is hosting a two session Swiss team event.
We will begin play at 10:00 am and conclude at 4:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. There will be door prizes awarded all day during the game and prizes for the winners.
This is our 5th year to participate and we hope to increase our total contribution. One hundred percent of all funds taken in during the event go to The Alzheimer's Association.
We invite all bridge players to join us on June 20th. If you don’t play bridge, we encourage you to join us in making a contribution to this worthy cause.

SHUFFLEBOARD
You don’t have to be a member of the Shuffleboard Group to play shuffleboard. The requirement is the same as other programs at the center. If you want to play shuffleboard, you pay $1 for members or $2 for non-members at the front desk. The equipment in the shuffleboard storage area is for anybody’s use. The front desk is to open the storage room and make them aware of the key to open the shuffleboard gate and instruct them to lock the gate, return the key to the storage room and lock the storage room door when finished.
Wickham Park Senior Center shuffleboard courts are located behind the building. Whether you are a beginner, or want to hone your skills, ask the staff at the front desk about setting up a game, just $4 per person and everything provided. Basic rules of scoring are posted on the equipment closet door. Get together a twosome or foursome and have some fun.
