Frisco is not your ordinary town. It is a city so committed to art and culture that it has established a program ensuring that public art can be admired by making it required. The City Council passed a city ordinance known as “Percent

for Art,“ where a percentage of every new city development that

goes up in Frisco is required to integrate the design work of artists

into the development. Because of this vision and commitment,

the City was honored by The Greater Dallas Planning Council with

The Built Award in 2005.

artists living today. Recognized as the largest private collection of its

kind, it is open to the public without charge.

It is the new home for the Bolin Museum collection, and is designed as a “living village.” Historic homes include the 1800 Lebanon Church, Crozier-Covington-Sickles house, Smith-Muse house, a log cabin and a restored 1910 steam locomotive and caboose. Frisco was born of western spirit as a tiny watering hole and whistle stop, rst

along the Shawnee Trail and then along the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad. It is from

this railroad that “Frisco” got her name, during the days of massive cattle drives in the

1800s. By 1869, the laying of track, which would become part of the Frisco line, was

completed in Texas. In 1902, one such line was completed from Denison to Carrollton

through the center of what is now Frisco. Men at depot stations along the San

Francisco line soon shortened the name to “Frisco.” In 1904 the people selected the

name “Frisco City” for their town in honor of the railroad that founded the young city.

It was soon shortened to “Frisco” and the rest is history.

Frisco Square opens onto Frisco Junction and then to the Historic Downtown

District, a vital part of the city and the heart of Frisco’s heritage. An active part of daily

life in Frisco, this area is also home to several annual Frisco festivals.

Pizza Hut Park, a world-class soccer stadium, serves as the cornerstone to this

innovative area and opens onto the Frisco Square promenade. This boulevard of retail

and multi-family housing leads visitors to Frisco’s unique City Hall.

designed by nationally renowned architect David M. Schwarz, whose

previous local work includes the American Airlines Center,

Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. Frisco Square combines turn-of-the- century charm with the new world

function. Anchored by City Hall, this one-of-a-kind development rests on 147 acres and will oer 4.4 million

square feet of oce, retail, multi-family and municipal facilities. The project serves as the ocial town center for

A City With a Bright Future!

e leadership of Frisco carefully considered each option for growth and, over the years, crafted a beautiful, well-designed and thoughtful city. Combined with a picture perfect location in the DFW Metroplex, just 25 minutes from DFW International Airport, it is no wonder that Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in America.
