With over 800,000 children in Israel living below the poverty line, the Jewish Agency helps level the playing fi eld for these and other youth at risk.

Youth FuturesThis groundbreaking initiative matches more than 6,500 disadvantaged youth with some 350 young adult trustees who mentor and develop personalized plans for each child. For three years the trustees work to bridge critical educational, social and extracurricular gaps facing these children. Youth Futures, a partnership between the Jewish Agency, Jewish communities around the world, and key Israeli partners, enables youth at risk to reach their potential.

Average cost per child in the Youth Futures program: $1,875

AtidimPre-Atidim starts in high school and provides 13,000 students from development towns who demonstrate high scholastic potential with educational reinforcement in math, science and English. Then, 550 of the best and brightest continue with Atidim as full time degree students at Israel’s top universities. Atidim for Industry and Atidim Cadets for Public Service programs provide full fi nancial scholarships, laptop computers and tutoring, which puts them well on their way to a career in hi-tech or in public service.

Average cost per student in Atidim programs:

Pre-Atidim: $1,000

Atidim for Industry: $8,500

Atidim Cadets for Public Service: $8,100

Net@Developed with Cisco Systems, over 1,300 high school teenagers from low socio-economic areas learn to design, build and maintain computer networks while working as part of a team and developing leadership skills. Upon graduating the program, the high school student receives an international certifi cation from Cisco as a computer network technician. Net@ opens the door to technology units in the army and Israel’s thriving hi-tech industry that otherwise would never have been accessible. The program is run in 27 localities in partnership with Tapuah, Cisco and Keren Hayesod.

The cost per participant in the Net@ program: $4,400

Youth Aliyah VillagesWhat began as a fi rst home for children rescued from Nazi Europe, today provides a warm, residential environment where over 1,000 new immigrants and youth at risk receive the educational and emotional support they need to fl ourish. The Jewish Agency’s Youth Aliyah villages have expanded programs to provide six years of continuous support for sixth to twelfth graders, allowing these children to build a more stable and promising future.

Average annual cost per child at one of the four Jewish Agency Youth Aliyah Villages: $19,000

Young CommunitiesMotivated to bridge social gaps and build a more just society, idealistic Israelis are establishing vibrant Young Communities in the Negev and Galilee. Young Community residents, mostly college students who have fi nished the army, encourage community leadership, volunteer as informal educators, and work with local youth at risk through the Jewish Agency’s Youth Futures program.

The average annual cost of operating one Young Community: $10,000
