Wednesday October 25 2017 From Sue The Mod 10 classroom was installed very efficiently last week. The placement of the second storey aroused considerable interest as the crane driver skilfully positioned this in a short period of time. Most of Friday was devoted to transferring decking and the roofing from Ludstone Street across the Mod 5 to the new building, again with remarkable accuracy with placement. There is still much work to be done before the children will be able to move in. We have a couple of grades who are very keen to try out an upstairs room! The grades in the other Mod 5 classrooms have been able to move back into their regular classrooms this week which I am pleased to note. The children in all grades have responded positively to challenges that a large building project imposes on a school. We look forward to the project being completed in approximately a months time. Master Plan Last year we had a master plan for the school drawn up by architects, a key feature of the plan was the construction of large netball stadium in the south western corner of the yard. This would replace the existing Arts block and include art and music teaching spaces and PE storage areas. School Council has strongly endorsed this plan and is keen to commence the important strategic planning phase to bring the stadium to fruition; noting that we will be reliant upon fundraising, grants, sponsorship and support from the Education Department. We anticipate that this space will be regularly utilised by community members in out of school hours. Our immediate steps include: Business Case this captures the justification for the project, the arguments for and against, the benefits (tangible and intangible), and a high level scope and costs Project Approach how will the project be delivered, what are the phases and what needs to be achieved in each, project resources, how is it governed and who makes decisions, roles and responsibilities, timeframe to achieve this, potential risks to be avoided, and possibly a further breakdown in costs and scope Project Plan or Work Breakdown Structure this takes the phases defined in the Project Approach and works out the tasks within – this is very useful to understand the amount of effort required to deliver the project, who is doing what and when and consideration of any inter - dependencies

From Sue The Mod 10 classroom was installed very efficiently last week. The children in all grades have responded positively to challenges that a large building project imposes on a school. We look forward to the project being completed in approximately a month’s time.

Our immediate steps include: Business Case – this captures the justification for the project, the arguments for and against,

the benefits (tangible and intangible), and a high level scope and costs Project Approach – how will the project be delivered, what are the phases and what needs to

be achieved in each, project resources, how is it governed and who makes decisions, roles and responsibilities, timeframe to achieve this, potential risks to be avoided, and possibly a further breakdown in costs and scope

Project Plan or Work Breakdown Structure – this takes the phases defined in the Project

Approach and works out the tasks within – this is very useful to understand the amount of effort required to deliver the project, who is doing what and when and consideration of any inter-dependencies

Fundraising Approach – how the project will go about raising funds, some rules of

engagement around what and the conditions around accepting donations, who will be targeted and the approach, and even some consideration of target

Information Memorandum (IM) –the main artefact that can be used to describe to

potential investors; what we are trying to achieve, benefits for the school and area, method of contribution and benefits, target, acknowledgements.

Our School Council Treasurer, James Buckley has considerable experience in this particular field and has offered to lead this process. If any parents have particular expertise and or interest in this field we would welcome your input. The Master Plan is displayed in the staffroom and in my office, interested parents are welcome to make a time to view and or discuss the plan in detail. Lost Property Yesterday our Grade 6s gathered the lost property around the school which had been collected or left outside in the yard over a 3 day period. The items collected included: 13 hats, 19 drink bottles, 74 jackets, 13 lunch boxes and 15 other items such as umbrellas. We have strongly encouraged the children to keep track of their own clothing and property, to accept responsibility for their own items. The children were encouraged to consider the weather and if warm, to leave their jackets inside the classroom. If they are unsure of the weather, they could tie their jackets around their waists if it warms during play. Most classes have a lunchbox tub situated near the entrance/exit closest to their classrooms. This can also be used to place clothing when the weather heats up. Parents are encouraged to have a conversation with their children about looking after their property at school. Screenagers How do you monitor and support appropriate technology

use in your family?

How much screen time is acceptable?

How do you manage technology use and teach children responsibility at home with technology?

Answers to these questions are an important part of supporting parents at Hampton in the effective use of technology. We are excited to present 'Screenagers' to our parent and wider community in a few weeks’ time. This documentary film explores the growing issue of digital device use and screen time in our lives and how to help parents understand and effectively manage the issue. We are hosting a viewing of 'Screenagers' in the Hall at Hampton Primary School on November 8th at 7pm. There is limited seating and this event will be available to the local schools and wider community so we encourage Hampton Primary parents to be quick to secure your tickets at $11. Tickets will only be available for purchase online and will not be available from the school or on the night. To purchase tickets simply click on the link: https://fan-force.com/screenings/screenagers-hampton-primary-school-vic/ Just one of the many parent recommendations for the film is included below... "As the mother of three kids—two of them teenagers—I’ve noticed that whenever I get together with other parents, the conversation ends up turning to our kids’ screen time. We’re all worried about how much is too much. For any of you wrestling with this issue, I loved the documentary, Screenagers. It combines smart insights and practical tips for raising happy, healthy, technologically-empowered teens." — Melinda Gates This is a one off event and we look forward to seeing you there. Please contact the school with any further queries.
