1 gfdgdfgdg 2016 Friday 28th June, 2019 FROM THE ACTING HEAD’S DESK Saturday saw the school come together to celebrate the life of Mr Bown. The pupils paid tribute by parcipang in a range of enrichment events he cared so much about. I have never been more proud of the school than I was on Saturday. I would like to thank the parents and pupils for their support on the day, and I hope you will agree that the spirit of the school shone along with the sunshine. It was a fing tribute to a much loved Headmaster. As the rain stopped on Tuesday morning, the pupils poured on to the athlecs field in full voice and colour, all cheering on their house. This could only mean it was Sports Day. The day was a wonderful display of the pupils’ sporng talents and a greater display of teamwork and support for each other throughout the day. I would like to thank the PE department for their hard work in organising this event. On Wednesday evening I had the privilege of aending the Year 10 drama examinaon performance. Three short plays wrien and researched by the pupils on powerful and emove topics that affect us all in society today. It was a pleasure to see the range of talent and the diverse style of acng the pupils have learnt in their me here. Well done to all who took part. Having previously qualified for the county finals, on Thursday our KS1 and KS2 gymnascs squad, went to Basildon to compete against other regional winners. Well done to all the pupils who took part, with KS1 coming 5th out of nine schools and KS2 coming 7th out of eleven schools. FROM THE ACTING HEAD’S DESK

Saturday saw the school come together to celebrate the life of Mr Bown. The pupils paid tribute by participating in a range of enrichment events he cared so much about. I have never been more proud of the school than I was on Saturday. I would like to thank the parents and pupils for their support on the day, and I hope you will agree that the spirit of the school shone along with the sunshine. It was a fitting tribute to a much loved Headmaster.

As the rain stopped on Tuesday morning, the pupils poured on to the athletics field in full voice and colour, all cheering on their house. This could only mean it was Sports Day. The day was a wonderful display of the pupils’ sporting talents and a greater display of teamwork and support for each other throughout the day. I would like to thank the PE department for their hard work in organising this event.

On Wednesday evening I had the privilege of attending the Year 10 drama examination performance. Three short plays written and researched by the pupils on powerful and emotive topics that affect us all in society today. It was a pleasure to see the range of talent and the diverse style of acting the pupils have learnt in their time here. Well done to all who took part.

Having previously qualified for the county finals, on Thursday our KS1 and KS2 gymnastics squad, went to Basildon to compete against other regional winners. Well done to all the pupils who took part, with KS1 coming 5th out of nine schools and KS2 coming 7th out of eleven schools.

We politely remind all parents that it is strictly prohibited to take photos or videos of children other than their own at school events. Thank you for your cooperation.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE Saturday was a day filled with music, drama, art, poetry, sport and dance which was the perfect way for the children to pay tribute to Mr Bown. Here are a few photos from the day.

LE TOUQUET TRIP Wednesday 19th June by Olivia , Year 7

After a very early start, we arrived in France via Eurotunnel, to visit Natur’Pomme, an apple farm, where we were shown around the eco-friendly orchard before watching a demonstration of how fruit juice used to be made. We tried several different juices and we had to guess the fruit from the colour and the smell. I guessed right and they tasted lovely!

After lunch we made our way to a bakery, where we learned how to make our own croissants with a scary baker who got us to repeat in French the names of the ingredients needed. It was a lot of fun.

We finished the day at the Etaples WW2 military cemetery. There were so many graves of young soldiers and we were given a cross to put on a grave of our choice.

Thursday 20th June by Louis, Year 7

Although we were tired from Wednesday, we were still going to have a great day and the sun was shining. Firstly, we walked from our hotel to Le Touquet market where many of us bought souvenirs and knickknacks. We then drove to Boulogne and Becasuc sweet factory where we were shown how they make traditional sweets with natural flavours. Kian and Rose took part in the demonstration, it was very interesting. After lunch

in the park (where the seagulls wanted our sandwiches!), we had a great time in Nausicaa Aquarium, looking at all the fish. We then had time for a game of football on the beach, which was a lot of fun, before a game of bowling. At the Flunch restaurant where we had dinner, we all gathered around the karaoke and sang. It was like a party and a great end to the day!

Friday 21st June by Holly, Year 7

The teachers woke us up at 7am as we had to finish packing before our delicious breakfast. After checking out, we drove to a snail farm. The man was very kind and explained all about the snails in French, but we could understand because he was speaking slowly and clearly. We got to hold a snail and then we tried some! A few people preferred not to have a try, but I did and my favourites were the ones in garlic and butter. After lunch, we went to do a bit of shopping in a small shopping mall with some good shops. It was then time to drive back to the Eurotunnel to go home. We were exhausted but excited from the trip. Thank you to Mr Rodriguez, Mrs Oakley, Mrs Stallman, and most of all to Madame Adair for organising all the amazing visits.

BARLEYLANDS Reception children had a fantastic day at Barleylands Farm Park last Friday. They shared ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story, learned where food comes from, made a healthy rainbow salad, met the animals and enjoyed a very bumpy tractor ride! What a lovely day!

YEAR 1 MOON BUGGIES

YEAR 6 POOL PARTY PROM

The Year 1 children have finished making their moon buggies this week. They used their science knowledge of push and pull forces to investigate what makes their toy move. Lovely work Year 1.

Year 6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their Pool Party Prom on Thursday evening. Much fun and hilarity was had by all. Good luck to all those leaving Saint Nicholas for pastures new.

YEAR 3 ASSEMBLY On Monday, Year 3 pupils thoroughly enjoyed performing their assembly to parents and the lower school. They all managed to remember their lines and sang the stone age rock song brilliantly. The sabre toothed tiger even managed to scare a few parents with his roar. Well done Year 3 for coming together to write the script in English lessons and for delivering such an amazing performance.

SPORTS REPORT

CRICKET

Report by Jack, Year 6

On Thursday of last week, the boys from Year 6 went to a Kwik Cricket tournament at Harlow Cricket Club. All of the boys played really well and in our first match we beat Church Langley B team by 63 runs. In our final match, we beat Hatfield Heath and there was some brilliant bowling and batting on display. Out of ten schools we came 3rd, narrowly missing out on the final to Nazeing. It was a great effort and performance from everyone!

CRICKET

Report by Henry, Year 9

On Monday 24th June, the cricket team took part in a match against the U14 Forest School cricket team. To begin with, our fielding gained us a few wickets and we limited a highly skilled batting line up to 126 runs. Unfortunately, when we batted we had little success as we lost some of our best batters within the first over. However, with determination from the team we managed 107 runs with stand out performances by Jack P and Freddie, and great bowling by Vince, Ben, Jack, Omar and Jenson.

CRICKET

Report by Lucy, Year 6

On Friday 21st June, the U11 girls went to a cricket tournament at Harlow Town Cricket Club. There were eleven teams competing from schools in and around Harlow. We played three matches and were unstoppable, winning all three!

We got to the finals on the day and played against Church Langley. The whole team played brilliantly and we won. We are all now going to the county finals to be held at the Essex County Cricket ground on Tuesday 2nd July.

Well done to all the bowlers and batters, you were outstanding!
