Shady Lane Child Development Center
Let’s hope that March brings us all the luck of the Irish and some spring weather too!
March is yet another fun-filled month here at Shady Lane Child Development Center, as we
have many celebrations and activities planned. Please refer to the calendar at the end of
the newsletter for all that we have going on this month. We hope everyone remembers to wear
green to school on Monday, March 17th
.
It may seem a bit early, but we have already started thinking ahead to the 2014-2015
school year. If you are aware of your enrollment needs for the summer months, as well as, for
the upcoming school year please let us know. We have some exciting changes coming our
way. Shady Lane Child Development Center is entering into a shared service partnership
with the Gloucester County Special Services School District. In efforts to assist our early child-
hood colleagues’ need for additional classroom space; we were able
to reconfigure the physical layout the Center to accommodate their
needs.
As we celebrate the beginning of our 10th
school year in Sep-
tember, we are anxious to have been given this opportunity. Our staff
is excited to work alongside and learn from their early childhood
peers. The benefits and professional services that follow this endeavor
are endless and will certainly set us aside from any other child devel-
opment center within our area. We are looking forward to imple-
menting this unified approach that will provide daycare and educa-
tional services to the families of Gloucester County.
In the coming weeks, we will co-host an informational open
house for our families to attend where more details will be outlined
and your questions answered. If you have any questions in the in-
terim, please do not hesitate to call me at the Center or drop me
an e-mail at [email protected].
I hope everyone has a happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The saying goes “March comes in like a lion, and out like a lamb.” We are all looking forward to
nicer weather. The babies love going out for walks on the nature trail in our bye bye buggy, hopefully
during this month we’ll be able to do that.
This month we’ll be welcoming two new babies, Madison (Cole’s baby sister) and Jax. We’re look-
ing forward to it! We will also be celebrating Emme’s first birthday on March 19th! Happy Birthday big
girl!
One of our themes is “on the go with transportation.” We’ll be reading “The
Wheels on the Bus” and “Things That Go.” We’ll also be reading “Brown Bear, Brown
Bear, What Do You See?” in honor of Eric Carle week, and “Big Rex and Friends” for
dinosaur week.
Thank you for checking your babies supplies, we appreciate having the things
we need and the fact that you’re right on top of it!
Enjoy the month of March and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Love,
Ms. Cathy, Ms. Carolyn, Ms. Joan, Ms. Shannon & Ms. Helen

Welcome to March!! Cover those little ears for those March winds soon will be here. We would love
to start getting out on our porch but we’ll need hats or hoods to keep us warm.
Our pasta table is a hit, the children just love it! They scoop and pour the pasta again and
again. Don’t forget to wear your green on Monday, March 17th. I’ll make green
milkshakes for snack on St. Patty’s Day. We’ll be mixing colors as we finger paint,
starting with yellow and blue to make green.
Hopefully we will soon see green grass. Everyone can’t wait to get back on the
nature trail and watch for signs of Spring.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day,
Ms. Kelly, Ms. Jess, Ms. Katelyn, Ms. Tina, Ms. Gina & Ms. Courtney
Happy St. Party's day! Now that it's March let's hope that the snow stops real soon. I don't know
about you, but I am looking forward to the warmer spring weather.
The themes this month that we will be focusing on are galactic galaxy, lucky leprechauns, every-
thing Eric Carle, phenomenal prehistoric pals and on the go with transportation. We will do a lot of new
and exciting things.
In the middle of February we welcomed a new little boy named Chase. We are all looking forward
to getting to know him better. He is such a sweet child and fits right in with the rest of the
good sweet children we have in the Explorers classroom.
If you have any comments, questions or concerns don't hesitate to call the center
at any time. Also if you ever need to email me my address is [email protected].

The boys and girls in Pre-school 1 are very ready for Spring to arrive! Although we've been keep-
ing ourselves busy with our weekly physical challenges, music and movement CD's and small group ac-
tive games during gym time; we are ready for some outdoor fun and fresh air!!
They say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Let’s hope it goes quickly so that we can
enjoy some sunshine and warmer weather!
Friday March 14th will be our first "Show-n-Tell" . I have put a reminder note in
each child's cubby explaining how this works. If you should have any questions about this
weekly event please come see me any time. We will go back to the beginning of the alpha-
bet and start with our letter "A". The children always get so excited to have a turn show-
ing their special thing from home and it makes for a great way to end the school week.
Here are our March Birthdays: Alexander March 3rd and Maren March 12th. Happy
Birthday to you both!!!

Come on Spring!! It has been one long and snowy winter and we cant wait to see the
arrival of Spring! Hopefully as the weather turns milder we will be able to spend
more time on the playground and the nature trail. The children always enjoy our
nature trail walks and are very observant of the changes around us. Along with the
arrival of spring we will also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. A sign-up sheet will be
posted by the door for anyone who would like to bring in a treat. Thank you to eve-
ryone who donated items for our Valentine’s party and to several parents who fre-
quently bring in treats to share with classmates!
Our themes for the month are Galactic Galaxy, Lucky Leprechauns, Everything Eric Carle, Prehis-
toric Pals & On the Go with Transportation. We also have a new staff member, Ms. Robin, that has been
joining us in the afternoons. The children are all getting to know her and we welcome her to our
school.

Marching into Spring! We are so thrilled to start Show and Tell this month. Our Preschoolers
love to bring in special things from home to show their friends, so we might as well have it start with the
letter of the week. We will put a note in the cubbies letting you know of the details.
Monday, March 17th is St. Patty’s Day. We don’t have a party, but we do some fun activities. We’ll
make “Shamrock Shakes” for the kids and then go on a leprechaun rock hunt. We have plenty of sup-
plies to make our Leprechaun rocks thanks to your “Bee Kind” donations, but I will post a sign up sheet
for the milkshake ingredients.
Check out our fun themes this month. I think the kids will really enjoy them. Feel free to bring in
books, theme related or not, to share with the class. Story time is one of our favorite things to do!
Hopefully the weather will warm up so we can get outside, we’re going stir crazy! Please
don't forget to check cubbies to make sure they’re stocked with extra clothes. Thank you for
all of your help and contributions.
Love,
Ms. Camille, Ms. Jackie, Ms. Ceshia, Ms. Catie & Ms. Kathy

We would like to say “farewell” to February and all the snow and cold temperatures. Hopefully
March will have more mild weather, since spring will arrive on the 20th.
In March, The Busy Bees will learn through these themes: Galactic Galaxy, Lucky Leprechaun, Eve-
rything Eric Carle, Phenomenal Prehistoric Pals, and On the Go with Transportation. We will also start
having two letters of the week so that we can complete the alphabet twice. Each week we will continue
writing both letters and having Show & Tell on Fridays. If you would like to bring in only one Show &
Tell item, please have your child choose from the 2 letters.
The Busy Bees will continue learning and writing our address and phone numbers. In the math
center, I have many measuring, graphing, counting, patterning, sequencing and classifying activities
planned; as well as, cutting patterns out with scissors and completing positional word activities.
Our science center will have a lot of activities planned to learn about space, bugs and dinosaurs.
We will also explore the sensory table, microscope and use magnets.
The dentist will make a special visit to talk about dental hygiene on March 11th. On the
17th we will have a St. Patrick’s Day party. I will post a sign up sheet on the cubbies.
Thank you in advance, and we appreciate all that you do for us and the children. If you
have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you in advance for sharing your children with us!
Love,
Ms. Jenn & Ms. Bev

Hopefully the worst of the winter is behind us as we enter into March. We have been working on
our social skills and learning how to be a good friend. We talk about personal space and what to do if
our friends ask us to stop or leave them alone.
We are also continuing to work on math concepts, such as numbers and patterns; along with fin-
ishing our pre-reading program. We will be starting to write sentences soon!
The themes this month are Galactic Galaxy, Lucky Leprechaun, Eric Carle, Prehistoric Pals and
Transportation. We have lots of fun activities planned!
We will be celebrating Allie’s birthday on the 11th, Ava’s on the 17th and Ryan’s on the 31st.
Happy 5th Birthday Allie, Ava & Ryan!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to me.
Love,
Ms. Grace & Mr. Marc
March is going to be another fun month in the Pre-K 1 classroom. We will be working on the letters W-Z.
Once we have completed our alphabet, we will be having a “Letter People Party.” As of right now it will
be on April 16th, but keep an eye out for more information.
A dentist will visit us on the 11th to talk to the children about dental health. St. Patty’s Day is
also this month. We will be having green milk (left by a leprechaun) and making Irish potatoes,
yummy! Also a special Happy Birthday wish goes out to Jack, who turns 5 on the 26!
Let’s hope this month brings us nice weather to melt the snow. We’re looking for-
ward to playing on our playground again!
Have a great month,
Ms. Lisa, Ms. Shannon, Ms. Jackie, Ms. Chelsea & Ms. Jeannette

Winter is winding down and we are anxiously awaiting the coming of spring. Time for
bears to wake up, the birds to return, the flowers to bloom and the children to play outside!
The only “special” activity for the month will be St. Patrick’s Day. I’m sure we’ll find
something to mark the day. Perhaps we’ll make it a green day. Dress in green, do our work
in green and even eat something green! We’ll see what the class decides.
We also have two birthdays to celebrate: Gianna’s on the 7th and Isabella’s on the 19th.
How exciting to be turning 6! The class has been so good at organizing parties that I’m
thinking we could have a Welcome Spring Celebration. We’ll work on this and let you know
how you can help.
Meanwhile, we’ll finish our reading unit on the weather and appropriately move on to
a study of plants. Watch and see how our garden grows. The Kindergarten is growing
fantastically! I’m so proud of their progress and hope you are too. Let me know if you have
any concerns.
Love,
Ms. Korotinsky & Ms. Jeanine
