FROM THE CHAIRMAN

“A New Look” is this year’s convention theme, and these three words speak volumes about this industry, the association and our member companies. Collectively we have many “new looks” among us as we gather once again in San Antonio for the midstream industry’s premier conference. Many of us watched the association’s name change to GPA Midstream right before our eyes at last year’s convention in New Orleans. While that took only a few minutes, the actual transformation had been an evolutional process encompassing

many years. The name GPA Midstream clearly identifies the association today and the industry we represent. We have also witnessed a transformation in our country’s top administration, which clearly brings a new look as well. Although it is too early to know for sure what it means to our industry overall, we are encouraged by the attention being given to critical energy concerns right from the start. Changes are never easy, nor are we strangers to change. Our industry has been through challenging cycles before, and each time we have emerged with a new look and a constructive future. I’m confident that will be the case again. Of course, the need for reinventing ourselves is not unique to our industry. That’s why I’m particularly interested in hearing what keynote speaker Bill McDermott has to say. In 2002, he was placed in the precarious position of serving as president of SAP’s flailing American business unit. In 2014, he became SAP’s first non-European CEO, today overseeing the company that is now the global leader in business applications and analytics software with 335,000 customers in 190 countries. We welcome Bill and his sharing of lessons learned. Sharing best practices is a common theme throughout the GPA Midstream Convention. I encourage you to carefully plan your participation around this year’s agenda that is full of timely topics with something beneficial to every attendee and the member companies you represent. San Antonio is always a great venue for the convention, and I hope you can find time to enjoy some of the area’s culture, while also making the most of your GPA Midstream experience. With that said, I extend to you my personal invitation to join us in San Antonio to take “A New Look” at today’s GPA Midstream Association and all that is on the convention’s excellent agenda. I say with assurance that you and your company will benefit from your participation.

Wouter van Kempen, DCP MidstreamGPA Midstream Chairman of the Board

• General Session GPA Midstream Chairman Wouter van Kempen, DCP Midstream, will present service awards and safety awards. Keynote presentation sponsored by GPSA: Bill McDermott• GPA Midstream Chapter Officers Roundtable Co-Chairs: Bill Ward, Superior Pipeline; Chris Lindenberg, Western Filter

Keynote speaker: Bill MCDermott Growing up in working-class Long Island, a 16-year-old McDermott traded three hourly wage jobs to buy a small deli, which he ran by instinctively applying ideas that would be the seeds for his successes that followed. In 2002, he became the unlikely president of SAP’s flailing American business unit. He was named co-CEO in 2010. In 2014, he became SAP’s sole, and first non-European, CEO. Today SAP is the global leader in business applications and analytics software with 335,000 customers in 190 countries. His journey from enterprising teenager to SAP CEO is chronicled in the best-selling book Winners Dream. Most recently, he’s dealt with personal adversity from losing an eye, and nearly his life, in a freak accident on household stairs at night. His lesson from it: “How can I get this lucky!” Another book is in the works as a result.
