FROM THE CO-CHAIRMEN2017 - 2018Board of Directors

Our Mission

This year was our most successful year to date thanks to you,our donors. Your incredible support allowed more children tobenefit from our exceptional programs than ever before.

We concentrated on equipping our teen population with toolsand resources they need to graduate high school with a clearplan for their future. Through our Destinations program, teenagers travelled to college campuses, attended meaningfulconferences, listened to dynamic speakers in various careerfields, applied for scholarships, learned how to write resumesand much more. We are extremely pleased to report that 100%of high school seniors in our Destinations program will beattending college, trade school, or the military.

This past year, we focused on providing our kids a variety oflearning opportunities leading to gaining self-confidence, teambuilding and personal skills that will position them for successlater in life. Club members enrolled in various team sports. Theyalso learned how to swim and participated in their first officialswim meet. The Club members joined competitive sportsleagues, including basketball, soccer, and track and field. Ourkids even got to experience rock climbing, kayaking, andcycling as part of our new adventure program.

The future is brighter than ever for this organization. This comingyear, we will begin construction on a new freestanding Clubhousein Fellsmere. We anticipate the new Club will be between 6,000

and 8,000 square feet, allowing us to serve more than 230 Fellsmere members each year in ahigh-need community. This remarkable initiative was made possible by Larry and Karen Mulder, beloved donors who pledged $1 million to turn this longstanding dream into a reality.

As our Club membership programs and offerings continue to grow we would be remisswithout recognizing our hard-working Board listed elsewhere in this Annual Report. This year,we were pleased to welcome three new members: Jenny Pettinga, John Campione, andBonnie Sandman. These individuals will expand our reach in the county and work hard toensure the long-term sustainability of our organization.

Our President’s Circle members have shown remarkable generosity, increasing their giving to anall-time high. We are launching the Chairman’s Circle to honor those who share a strong desireto invest deeply in the lives of our children, contributing $5,000 or more during the fiscal year.

Great Futures Start Here – because of YOU. Thank you for giving our children hope for thefuture and a safe, positive place to call their second home.

KEY STAFF VOLUNTEERS We love our volunteers!

This Annual Report marks another year of academicsuccess, healthy lifestyles, character development andfun! Our numbers and attendance continue to be strong. The expanded Vero Beach facility has been host to many sporting events, Friday teen nights, Saturday programs, and intra-clubcompetitions this past year.

All three Clubs collaborated with many communityagencies such as the Environmental Learning Center,Youth Sailing Foundation, Mental Health Association,Treasure Coast Food Bank, Learning Alliance, and theMuseum of Art, to name but a few. When agencies work

together amazing things can happen. We are very fortunate to live in a communitythat gladly maximizes its resources for our children.

We are accomplishing our mission every day because of your generosity. We are able to make a significant difference in the lives of the children and familiesserved, making a measurable, positive impact on this community. Each investor cantake satisfaction for being a part of this success. Thank you for your continuedsupport and trust.

OUR PROGRAMS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

u

We opened our doors in 2000 and began serving youth in asmall classroom of a local elementary school. Since that time,we have grown to serve 1,200 children through threeClubhouses, one each in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere. The Sebastian Club opened in 2006, followed by the Vero Beach and Fellsmere Clubs in 2010. The Clubs includeeducation and technology centers with computers, art andgame rooms, teen centers, outdoor green space, and multi-function areas.

The Clubs are open every day after school and all day duringsummer and school breaks, providing a vital service to ourcounty’s children and families. The rate of juvenile crime morethan doubles during the non-school hours of 3:00 p.m. and7:00 p.m., and it is during those hours that children are morelikely to be involved in substance abuse and sexual activities. The Clubs provide a safe, positive, and educationalenvironment for our community’s youth, encouraging them to achieve their highest potential.

ABOUT OUR CLUBS

NEW PROGRAM INITIATIVESDestinations: Our goal is to show teens potential career paths and help them discover their strengths and vocationalopportunities. "Because of the Boys & Girls Club, I did things I normally wouldn't do like

volunteering, leadership summits, and beingpart of Keystone. That stuff didn't interestme until I started coming to the Club.

Being here built me up. The other teens and the staff really helped me."

Our existing Fellsmere Club has been affected by hurricanes for the pasttwo years, greatly impacting our ability to retain members and deliverprograms. We endured a six month restoration of the basement levelafter Hurricane Irma but realized the kids of Fellsmere deserved better.

The new 8,000 square foot Club will be built adjacent to the oldschoolhouse where we are currently located, with amenities such as atech lab, art room, multipurpose space, classrooms and a shaded patio! The new building will allow us to serve more members.

Two of our cherished donors and dedicated volunteers in the Fellsmerecommunity, Larry and Karen Mulder, pledged $1 million to make theirvision for Fellsmere youth become a reality. Said the Mulders,“Volunteering with the middle school boys at the Club has been a wonderful experience for us and has opened our eyes and hearts to the value as well as some of the needs of Fellsmere youth. This facilitywill more adequately serve the youth of the city now and in the years to come.”

The Club is being designed by Edlund Dritenbas & Binkley Architectsand will be built by Proctor Construction. The existing structures will beremoved in December 2018 and we will break ground in January 2019with completion slated by late fall.

The children and families in Fellsmere will soon have a brand new Boys & Girls Club!

COMING IN2019!

"My life was forever positively impacted by the South Miami Boys & Girls Club. Living with my single mother with no real after school program for myself and

younger sister, I will always be grateful for the mentoring, coaching and support systemthe Club provided me. Never in my fondest dreams would I have believed that 60 years

later Proctor Construction Company would have the privilege of constructing multiple Boys & Girls Clubs for Indian River County."

- Donald C. Proctor

“My children have attended the Vero Beach Club since2012. They have forged life-long friendships withClub leaders and fellow students. They have played

sports for Club teams and participated in the Jake Owen Music Program. They have learned

valuable lessons about growing up and becoming active participants in their community.”
