August 2013 THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE ARIZONA MG CLUB President, Buckey McChesney FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT Hello all, I hope your summer season of Monsoon, dust and rain didn’t get in your way. My pool was full of leaves that blew in the wind along with dust and a little dirt… August is the time school starts. The routines begin again for families with students in school. I would like to see as many club members and their cars at GOF West this year. It is in our back yard. I know it is a bit expensive but should be a week of fun. I will have my Magnette there. If I could drive my MGB there I would, but one person can’t drive two cars at the same time. Hmmm, a trailer hitch on the Magnette and a tow bar on the MGB. Now that would work to have two cars there at the same time. Yeah, just dreaming again. The annual pizza party is coming up fast. August 10 th , 5 PM, pizza served at 6 PM. This is usually a fun event. We usually get packed with people. Come one, come all. We provide the pizza. See the newsletter for information and address. The Board meeting will be there at 4:30. If you have anything you want to talk about or present to the board, come early. Ideas? We could use your ideas. I attended GT-38 in Asheville, North Carolina this summer. What a blast. The weather cooperated and we had GREAT driving roads for all MG’s and any other British cars. Diamondback and Tail of the Dragon were my two favorite roads with numerous curves and up and down the mountain driving. The Blue Ridge driving was fun as well. While at GT-38, I purchased both tech session books that were autographed by Mike Ash himself. Now I have the complete set. These two books are very helpful for MGA, some MGB, as well as my Magnette. The Tech Sessions second book has some nice color pictures that the original book never had. Thank you Mike Ash. * How can we attract the younger crowd? One way is exposure. Visible cars on display. I know our LBC’s are not fast, but they are easy to drive and maintain. Any ideas, please share with all members. I will be in contact with two younger members of the Magnette community to get their ideas. My work schedule has been very hectic. I want to go to the car shows and show my MG’s, one at a time. I will be doing the shows at 67 th Ave and Bell Rd. Next to Mextecca in the Kmart parking lot. They seem to get a nice size crowd. If I am not working Fridays or Saturday, I will be there with one of my cars, even in the heat. I went once at the beginning of the summer and got there early. I guess I parked in the Mustang area. Most people just walked by. I guestimated that one out of every 75 people came by for a look or stopped to chat with me about my Magnette. Next time I won’t park there. It appears the British cars were a little east of that area about 5 or 6 lanes east. Fun for All. Buckey Highlights in This Issue ….
