1 gfdgdfgdg 2016 Friday 12th March, 2021 It has been wonderful to have everyone back together on site this week and it just goes to demonstrate that the School really is the people and not the buildings that we all inhabit. Although the Pre-School has connued to be open throughout the lockdown and we have had the provision for the children of crical workers on site, the buildings as a whole have been so empty and quiet since the beginning of this term. All that changed by 8.30am on Monday!! There has been a real enthusiasm and energy in school this week and the delight for everyone to be back, amongst pupils, staff and parents, has been obvious to see. I certainly met a large number of beaming parents on the drive on Monday morning as they dropped off their children for the first me since before Christmas! The pupils have, very quickly, returned to the usual rounes, within all the safety restricons that we have put in place and there is a very purposeful atmosphere in all the classrooms. The remote learning has worked really well and I would like to thank all those parents who have taken the me to write in appreciaon of everything that the teachers have done over the past weeks in lockdown, but there is nothing as good as having all the pupils back together to work together and learn. We are first and foremost a community - and a very special one at that - and that reminds me of the following quote: "Community is much more than belonging to something: it's about doing something together that makes belonging maer." It really is good to be back. FROM THE HEADMASTERS DESK

It has been wonderful to

have everyone back

together on site this week

and it just goes to

demonstrate that the

School really is the people

and not the buildings that

we all inhabit. Although the

Pre-School has continued to

be open throughout the

lockdown and we have had

the provision for the

children of critical workers

on site, the buildings as a

whole have been so empty

and quiet since the beginning of this term. All that changed by 8.30am on Monday!! There has been a

real enthusiasm and energy in school this week and the delight for everyone to be back, amongst pupils,

staff and parents, has been obvious to see. I certainly met a large number of beaming parents on the

drive on Monday morning as they dropped off their children for the first time since before Christmas! The

pupils have, very quickly, returned to the usual routines, within all the safety restrictions that we have

put in place and there is a very purposeful atmosphere in all the classrooms. The remote learning has

worked really well and I would like to thank all those parents who have taken the time to write in

appreciation of everything that the teachers have done over the past weeks in lockdown, but there is

nothing as good as having all the pupils back together to work together and learn.

We are first and foremost a community - and a very special one at that - and that reminds me of the

following quote: "Community is much more than belonging to something: it's about doing something

together that makes belonging matter." It really is good to be back.

WORLD BOOK DAY Last Friday the lower school and pre-school children took part in a virtual World Book Day. There were some fantastic costumes which made it very difficult to choose overall winners but after much consideration the eventual winners were chosen as follows: • Wilf the lion in Pre-school

• Nola and her pet dragon in Form 1SP • Logan the explorer in Form 2D

• Dotty the borrower in Form 4HM • Holly the hungry caterpillar in Form 5BM

In the afternoon, pupils also took part in a readathon. If you would like to sponsor them please click on the following link. The majority of money raised helps hospitals, and the school receives 20% of the raised funds to purchase more books for the school library. The final total will be revealed after the Easter holidays!

Thank you once again for your support.

SETTLING BACK INTO RECEPTION

PRE-SCHOOL WORLD BOOK DAY The pre-school children had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as different book characters and sharing lots of wonderful stories. They also had a special visit from Mr Petty who read one of their favourite stories ‘Shark in the Park’.

In Reception this week, the children have been having a great time settling back into the class routine. They have had a super time playing with their friends again and have been working very hard preparing for Mother’s Day. They have been reading, writing, making, drawing, exploring, counting, cycling and scooting and have also had their first week of Construction Club in which the children were set a challenge to build a bridge. It was great fun!

RED NOSE DAY On Friday 19th March Saint Nicholas pupils and staff will be taking part in a Red Nose Day event. In the morning, lower school pupils will be competing to design their own special House themed nose. The senior House Captains will then select an overall winner for each House within KS1 and KS2, awarding them 10 house points each.

During the day, pupils across the whole school are invited to wear a red accessory in support of Comic Relief. As we are currently unable to collect coins in school, we are asking for each child with a red accessory to donate £1 to the following link https://donation.comicrelief.com/ .

ST PATRICK’S DAY MENU Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit! (Happy St Patrick’s Day!) Chef Craig has put together a suitably Irish themed St Patrick’s Day menu which will run alongside the usual menu on Wednesday. We hope the children enjoy it.

DATES FOR THE DIARY

ROMAN DAY On Wednesday, Year 4 pupils enjoyed their Roman enrichment day and had a lot of fun being creative in true Roman style! In English, they took part in reading a Roman invasion play script, in mathematics they learnt how to count up to 100 in Roman numerals and made their own clocks, and after that, they created their own mosaic coasters using authentic tesserae tiles. Much fun was had by all!
