From the Parish Priest Dear Parishioners, You may recall some time ago I announced that a grant had been approved for Mary Immaculate Primary School to fully landscape the area between Mary Immaculate church and school. I am happy to report that these extensive landscaping works will begin on Monday. There will only be pedestrian access down to the parish meeting room, SVDP rooms and toilets from then on, while the work takes place. Towards the end of the project (in early February), there will be a number of days when even this pedestrian access will be restricted and we will have to make other temporary arrangements at that time. There could also be some unwanted noise during weekday Masses but I have been assured that this will be kept to a minimum.
You will notice new indicating signs near the confessional to determine where the line for those waiting for confession starts and the direction to wait in order from that point. Please observe these arrow signs in patient consideration for one another while waiting for confession. This also gives me the opportunity to remind everyone once again of the great importance of going to confession before Christmas and in preparation for the new year. Confession times are on Page 3 of this Newsletter.
There will be a working bee to spring clean Mary Immaculate church in preparation for Christmas, after Mass next Saturday, 17th December. Please come to give a hand for an hour or so if you can as we all know the reality of the truism that ‘many hands make light work’. Also, just a final reminder about the Thank you Christmas Drinks for all our Parish and Oratory volunteers. This will be on Thursday 15th December in the Parish Office. The idea is that all our volunteers are warmly invited to simply drop in for a Christmas drink and finger food anytime between 5:00pm and 8:00pm and stay as long or as briefly as they wish. The Oratory community looks forward to seeing you all there. Our reflection for the Third Sunday of Advent follows.

Light looked down and beheld
Darkness:
‘There will I go’, said Light. Peace looked down and beheld War:
‘There will I go’, said Peace.
Love looked down and beheld Hatred:
‘There will I go’, said Love.
So came Light and shone.
So came Peace and gave rest. So came Love
and brought Life.
And the Word was made Flesh
and dwelt among us. Laurence Housman
Let us prepare the way in

It is not uncommon for
children to want a bike for
Christmas. They want to play
and have fun on them. For
some children, however, in
countr ies served by
missionaries, a bike is essential for children to access a
life-changing education. Through Catholic Mission’s Life
Giving Gifts catalogue, you can ensure a child receives
the education they need for a positive future. Visit www.catholicmission.org.au/gifts to find out how
your gift of $53 can transform a life.

Third Sunday of Advent - Year A: 10th/11th December, 2016
ADVENT WREATH PRAYERS: Third Candle
Celebrant: O ROOT OF JESSE, that stands for an ensign of the people, before whom the kings keep silence and unto whom the Gentiles shall make supplication:
Response: COME, to deliver us and do not delay.
Celebrant: O KEY OF DAVID, and Sceptre of the House of Israel, who opens and no man shuts, who shuts and no man opens:
Response: COME, and bring forth the captive from his prison, he who sits in darkness and in the shadow of death. Amen
SUNDAY MASS READINGS
First Reading: Isaiah 35:1-6,10 Let the wilderness and the dry-lands exult, let the wasteland rejoice and bloom, let it bring forth flowers like the jonquil, let it rejoice and sing for joy. The glory of Lebanon is bestowed on it, the splendour of Carmel and Sharon; they shall see the glory of the Lord, the splendour of our God. Strengthen all weary hands, steady all trembling knees and say to all faint hearts, `Courage! Do not be afraid. Look your God is coming, vengeance is coming, the retribution of God; he is coming to save you.' Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the ears of the deaf unsealed, then the lame shall leap like a deer and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy for those the Lord has ransomed shall return. They will come to Zion shouting for joy, everlasting joy on their faces; joy and gladness will go with them and sorrow and lament be ended.
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm 145
(Said by all)
It is the Lord who keeps faith for ever, who is just to those who are oppressed. It is he who gives bread to the hungry, the Lord, who sets prisoners free.
It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind, who raises up those who are bowed down, the Lord, who protects the stranger and upholds the widow and orphan.
It is the Lord who loves the just but thwarts the wicked. The Lord will reign for ever, Zion's God, from age to age.
Second Reading: James 5:7-10
Be patient, brothers, until the Lord's coming. Think of a farmer: how patiently he waits for the precious fruit of the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the spring rains! You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord's coming will be soon. Do not make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not to be brought to judgment yourselves; the Judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates. For your example, brothers, in submitting with patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, Alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he sent me to bring Good News to the poor. Alleluia!
Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11 John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, `Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?' Jesus answered, `Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor; and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.' As the messengers were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John: `What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No? Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Oh no, those who wear fine clothes are to be found in palaces. Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet: he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger before you; he will prepare your way before you. I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is'.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
