The 2013 Fall Seminar was held this year in the Tribal Building at Central Wyoming Community College in Riverton, on September 13 and 14, 2013. The college provided us with a beautiful facility. We began the seminar on Friday with a group quiz on legal terminology followed by a PowerPoint presentation on the Death Penalty by Rob Oldham and Kerri Johnson of the Natrona County Public Defenders’ Office. Our third presenter was Dameione Cameron who gave us insight into the roles of the Guardian ad Litem, particularly in divorce and custody cases. Damieon’s presentation was very informative as well as humorous!
On Friday night we
met at the Wind River Casino for dinner and a night of gaming. (Some of us enjoyed a “scenic” tour of Riverton when we opted to take the hotel shuttle to the Casino). The Casino gave all us of $20 each in free slot play, and I was the lucky winner of $800! I usually never win anything, so it was a very good night!
On Saturday morning, John Worrall gave a very interesting presentation on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. Due to a family emergency, our fifth speaker, Eric Nelson, was unable to attend. We are in the process of trying to plan a videoconference or conference call presentation, and I will keep all of you
posted on the progress of this.
For photos of the seminar, be sure to visit our website at www.lawyo.com and click on “seminar highlights”.
The Spring Seminar and Annual Meeting will be held in Sheridan at the Sheridan Holiday Inn and Convention Center on April 25-26th. So far we have secured presentations on the topics of evidence, business entities, and animal law. Our seminars are always fun and educational and a time to network with other paralegals. This spring we will have a special drawing for all new attendees, in addition to our fantastic door prizes! Hope to see you there!
CP/CLA Exam:
If you are planning to take the CP/CLA Exam this January, and intend to have Mary Kubichek
administer that exam, please contact her as soon as possible at 268-2681! She does not charge a
testing fee, but will need to schedule testing dates/times and complete the required forms!

The Paralegal Pal Mentor Program has begun for the 2013-2014 academic year. I would like to encourage everyone to become a mentor to a paralegal student, or “baby” paralegal. If you are interested, we request our mentors to do the following:
Actively engage in a mentoring partnership. Attempt to provide resources or contacts for questions you
may not have the answers to.
Attend and be prepared for all meetings with mentee, whether in person, by teleconference or by e-mail.
Prepare specific goals, objectives and expectations with the mentee.
Develop, commit and contribute to the success of the mentor/mentee relationship.
Encourage professional and appropriate behavior.
Demonstrate what you have learned.
Offer to help prepare your mentee for interviews.
Invite your mentee to all regional events, LAW events, and mentor/mentee luncheons.
Communicate at least once a month via email, phone, etc.
I encourage anyone interested in participating in this program to contact me at
[email protected] for more information. Together, we can better equip our future colleagues for their career as paralegals!

Services in Riverton. Community Entry Services is a non-profit organization who provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries including: life skills training, job training, supported employment, recreation program, case management services and assisted living support.
Our donation sent to Festival of Trees on behalf of the members of LAW was $340. Thank you to all the members who donated! I feel proud to belong to LAW where our members are so giving!
Our next spring seminar will be held in Sheridan. I have not yet picked a charity, but I will keep you posted on which charity it will be.
