1 Newsletter No. 23 - Term 3Week 4 Thursday 6 th August2015 From the Principal……… My goodness, it’s cold! Please make sure your children are rugged up and have spare clothes in their bags. We have so many children who have “accidentally” slipped in the mud. Also, outside the office we have had the most incredible amount of unnamed, unclaimed uniforms which we are offering for $1 each. Some of these are lovely and warm fleecy jackets and track pants. The cold weather has certainly brought quite a bit of illness throughout the school. You may have noticed some of your child’s classroom teachers are away ill, as well as a lot of children. If your child is sick, please do not send them to school as we do not have the facilities to care for sick children. Our sick bay is used for accidents only. If your child is recovering from illness and feels well enough to come to school but is still on medication, then please communicate this with the classroom teacher and the office. All medications are dispensed through the office, with parent permission. GROUNDS DEVELOPMENT Our landscape architect, Justin Staggard, was in the school yesterday working on plans for our grounds development. If you haven’t seen the examples of playground struct ures that our children chose for our playground, please come and have a look at the board outside Richard’s office. Justin is hoping to finish the first set of plans by next Friday. We will display those plans on the board. PROFESSOR MATHS Today, the Foundation Grade 2 children are having a visit from Professor Maths. This wild-haired gentleman is certainly making Maths hands-on and fun for the children. They are learning all sorts of strategies to solve problems and the whole program is complementing our classroom Maths program. Grades 3-6 will be having a visit from Professor Maths tomorrow. World Vision Free Dress Day On Wednesday 29

th July we had a free dress day to support our World Vision sponsor child, Deny. It sparked some

fantastic conversations about children around the world. We used the above picture prompt to do some writing. Here are some thoughts from the children in Foundation. I like clean water. It helps us and it also helps us to stay alive. I really like clean water because without it there will not be me and you. - Stephanie FT The poor people have not got clean water. They have to walk a long way. Some people get big tubs. They carry the tubs on their head. Sometimes they carry the pots on their hips. - Grace FT Living water helps me to stay alive. I drink clean water. - Blake FT Running water makes me feel happy because I need running water to survive. - Ruby FT Clean running water makes me smile. I love clean water. I don’t need to drink dirty water. Hurray! I am happy. - Samantha FT

I like to drink clean water. Some people in other countries don’t have clean water. - Elise FT The people are happy because they have clean running water. In other countries they don’t have clean running water. - Jay FT

SCIENCE In Grade 3/4 Science, our focus last week was, "Where's the Science in Solids and Liquids?" We discussed the importance of oil in our everyday lives and viewed "Harriet's Home At Sea" which explored the effects of oil spills in the ocean. Professor Draffin proceeded to demonstrate the damage to ocean life, experimenting with water, oil and feathers, allowing our students to see how the ocean is affected. It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 15th July to Tuesday 8th September 2015, when you shop at Woolworths you can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator or through an online order and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet.
