FROM THE PRINCIPAL (Anne Hassall)
END OF SCHOOL DAY
We request that all parents/carers who pick up their children after school be here promptly at 3:30pm.
Staff are currently reviewing our after home time bell procedures in light of our current industrial
award and face to face time with students. At present, I believe our current practice of staff remaining
in class until 3.45pm is outside our industrial award.
Dear Families,
Tomorrow morning we are celebrating our fathers and male carers
with a breakfast, classroom visits and Mass. It is one of our
favourite and busiest events of the year. We hope to see as many
dads and significant males as can make it to school with their
children. Thank you to all who have helped with preparation,
especially Kirsty Cortese for her assistance again with the pre-
breakfast preparation.
Thank you to Parents and Friends and to so many mums who helped
with the Father’s Day Stall set up last Thursday and the Father’s Day
Stall last Friday. The students seemed to have been ‘savvy’ shoppers
and I am sure all our dads and male carers will enjoy their gifts
bought with love and enjoyment.
Staff Meetings
Meetings are held on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays and begin at 3.50pm.
Please be aware of this as teachers are
often caught between their desire to
meet with parents and the expectation
to that they will be at staff meeting on
time.
Staff also attending a briefing session on
Monday morning until 8.45am
SCREECH OF TYRES OUTSIDE ST AGATHA’S
This morning a student was narrowly missed being run over by a
car! Once again, a parent dropped their child off in Scott St on
the opposite side of the road and left their child to cross the road
by themselves. The child came out behind the car and was nearly
hit by another car.
Another near miss.
Apologies to the driver who must have been very upset at nearly
hitting a child.
How can we get it through to parents that it is not safe to let
children cross the road by themselves…all for the sake of a few
minutes?

Year 3 Incursion
The Year Three classes had a stimulating and hands on experience during their workshop provided by ‘Mad about Science’. This workshop related to our current Inquiry unit of living
and non living things. The students looked at and identified properties of living things such as
insects and plants. They used microscopes to observe properties that cannot be seen with the
naked eye.

Family Week
Family Week is a time to focus on celebrating and strengthening families. At St Agatha’s, we are recognising our families by holding a Father’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy. All dads, grandfathers and male carers are invited to revel in the fun so that the school community can applaud them and show appreciation for all that they do for us.
The Father’s Day Breakfast is a great opportunity to highlight these special people. All visitors are also welcome into classrooms after breakfast and/or Father’s Day Liturgy, to share in our students’ learning.
To support other families in the wider community that are less fortunate then ourselves, we are inviting visitors to donate a gold coin upon arrival at the hall for breakfast. Raising funds will assist in supporting Catholic Care’s Programs in our diocese.
Thank you for your support and enjoy the Father’s Day celebrations.

Who Is Your Child Talking To?
I often hear adults bemoan the fact that kids of today are anti-social. I think it is almost the opposite.
Their social experience uses different methods. And of course adults are never on their phones!
We have a human desire to feel connected. Social Media and technology connects people. It can also
pressure students into the idea that they aren’t connected enough. Not liked enough. So the following
happens….”I didn’t get enough likes, that person got more likes, I’ll do something more outrageous to get
more likes, I’ll talk to ‘randoms’ so I have more friends.” It becomes a cycle. It can happen quickly.
Remember that children must be 13 to have Social Media. For those that have accounts, be aware of who
they are talking too. We lock our doors to protect children, but the people who we try to protect them
from may also use different ways to gain access.
There is no need to be alarmed if you are aware.

Celebrating Stories Dress Up
To celebrate the official end of the Premier’s
Reading challenge, St Agatha’s will be having
a ‘Celebrating Stories’ dress up. Students are
encouraged to dress as their favourite
character from a story they love! Classes will
spend the day creating more special stories.
It will be held next Friday the 8th of
September.
We will send out more information via the
app.
