SCHOOL AND YOUSCHOOL AND YOU
The role you play in your children’s education is vital in helping them become happy and confident learners at school. To assist families, the Department of Education has a parent website, Schools and you. This includes a range of links including information on bullying, approved specialist programs and education resources for families with young
children etc.
These resources are available at http://det.wa.edu.au/schoolsandyou/detcms/portal/ .
STUDENT LEADERSSTUDENT LEADERS
The Aveley Primary School Student Leadership Team has made a fine start to the 2017 school year. They have taken on their additional responsibilities in a mature manner and
are supportive of our school as a whole.
Accompanied by Mr Harvie and parent helpers, our students will be attending a Student Leadership Conference at the Convention Centre on Friday, 10 March. I’m sure they will
enjoy this opportunity.
We thank our student leaders for their efforts and look forward to working with them further
as the year progresses.

CROSSWALK APPLICATIONCROSSWALK APPLICATION
We are currently working through the application process for a Type A Children’s Crossing (supervised) to be located on Egerton Drive, near the Bolero Road entry. We are looking for assistance from a parent/s to carry out a traffic count. This information is required as
part of the application process. The traffic count, in the form of a tally to count both traffic
and pedestrians, would require up to approximately one hour once before school and after
school. Please contact the front office if you are able to assist .

NEW ELLENBROOK SECONDARY COLLEGENEW ELLENBROOK SECONDARY COLLEGE
Stephen Pestana has been appointed as the inaugural Principal of the new secondary college rapidly being constructed in Maffina Parade in Ellenbrook. Stephen would like to invite you to visit the college’s Facebook page. Over coming weeks and months, this page will record the development of the new college for the local community. Follow the journey through completion of Stage One of the building program, to when the doors open next February for the inaugural Year 7 Class of 2018. There will be information about the college, key dates, special events, information
nights and milestones achieved.
There will be a consultation process that will guide the implementation of the college. This will include the schools Vision, its name and key policies of the college. Details of
this process, contacts and updates can be found at the Facebook page.
TRANSPORTABLE CLASSROOMS UPDATETRANSPORTABLE CLASSROOMS UPDATE
The four transportable buildings installed on site over the Christmas break are now fully operational with required resourcing, furniture and internet access. The additional two classrooms are due to be installed in early March. We look forward to being able to utilise
these buildings as soon as possible.
Additional works will be progressed as soon as the next two buildings are in place. To ensure protection from the weather, an undercover walk way will be installed from the Music Room along the front of the buildings. An additional sandpit area will be installed alongside the current Early Childhood Playground area and a shade structure will be
installed over this play area.

PARKINGPARKING
Thank you to the families who have responded to our parking issues as highlighted in our last Aveley Informer. There are still a few parents who are parking on the kerb on Bolero Road directly outside the Administration Block. Can you please make the necessary changes in your picking up/parking habits? All this is for the safety of our children, uppermost on our list of things to do is to provide a safe school. Please be reminded that the Turkich Street car park, near the Undercover Area is only for School and Dental Therapy staff. An additional car park has been installed further east along Turkich Pde to
accommodate parking for parents.

‘Bringing drawings to life’
On Tuesday, 7 and Wednesday, 8 March Ecologist Mandy Bamford (the flora and fauna expert!) will be visiting APS with natural bushland items and even some live animals. She will be inspiring students and demonstrating how to draw bushland scenes, animals and plants and bring these drawings to life. Mandy will also be talking about local threatened species, particularly the black cockatoo and Western Swamp Tortoise. Classes from PP to Year 5 will be participating in this free incursion. Students will also be creating an artwork over the next few weeks that will be displayed at The Gallery in
Ellenbrook from March 20 until April 25.

We are half way through Term 1 and fast approaching our first fundraiser for the year, Hot Cross Buns. Order forms for this delicious fundraiser will be sent home with students this week, if you don’t receive yours be sure to check with the classroom teacher because you don’t want to miss out. Also available this year again we will be selling Entertainment books with information to come in the coming weeks. As you have seen over the past few weeks the school canteen is running extremely successfully with delicious food for everyone. Coming up over the next few weeks are Nachos, Sub Rolls and Sausage Rolls. Don’t forget orders are due in by Wednesday mornings. Thank you to the volunteers that have given up their precious time to help the canteen ladies. If you can offer any of your available time on a Thursday to help Laura and Emma please contact them via the Aveley Primary School P and C Canteen Facebook page. With our upcoming events at the school we would appreciate any time you can spare whether it is an hour or a day. Please remember your child will love you helping out at school too.
