Dear Parents,
Grandparents’ Morning It was lovely to see our
grandparents attend our annual Grandparents Morning Tea last
Friday morning. The children looked forward to spending time with their grandparents and
showing them the many wonderful things they do at St
Patrick’s. Some children even had the opportunity to Skype their grandparents overseas!
Grandparents’ Day celebrates the
role that grandparents and older people play in our society—both
the things they have done, and the things they keep doing. It was a great way to spend time
with an older loved one and connect across the generations.
A big “thankyou” to the wonderful ladies of the P & F who organised
the delicious morning tea and made everyone feel so welcome.
Thankyou. Camp
Our Year 6s are currently on camp at Forest Edge near
Waroona where they are participating in all sorts of exciting and challenging outdoor
activities. The children have been having a marvellous time and,
whilst Mrs Tomlinson, Mr Yorke and Mr Ryan are working overtime, they are enjoying
working with the children in a different setting where everyone
is challenged and asked to step

out of their comfort zones. The
camp will provide many fond memories for the Year 6s,
whether it be the activities, food, or the time spent with friends, old and new, in different situations.
All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day
Our Year 2 class will present a liturgy tomorrow to recognise both All Saints’ Day & All Souls’
Day.
All Saints’ Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on 1st
November. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that
is, all those who have attained heaven. All Souls’ Day, which is
observed on 2nd November, is dedicated to those who have died, and we offer our prayers for
them.

The final Scholastic Book Club catalogues for
2018 are being distributed to all students this week.
If you would like to place an order from this edition, please do so by Friday 9th
November. It may be a great opportunity for a little bit of early Christmas shopping.
To order, follow the instructions on the back of the catalogue.
Wanted—New Scholastic Book Club Coordinator
Our current Scholastic Coordinator, Mrs Emilia Pinzone, has organised Book Club for
us for the last few years but, sadly, we say goodbye to the Pinzone family at the end of this year.
For the Scholastic Book Club to continue on
in 2019, we would invite any interested parents to put their hand up to continue the tradition.
At St Pat’s, we generally only do three Book
Club orders a year, so the time needed for this volunteering opportunity is minimal. To make the transition even easier, Emilia has
kindly offered to assist the new volunteer to learn how to coordinate the ordering
process. If you would like to be the 2019 Book Club
Coordinator, please email school Administration on
[email protected] Don’t forget that sales from the Scholastic
Book Club catalogues accumulate points that go to our school library for new
resources.

Around St Pat’s
On Friday, the students had a
lovely time showing their
grandparents their classrooms.
I’m sure many were astonished
at how schools have changed.
On Tuesday, all classes
from Kindy to Year 5
experienced a native
animal incursion
presented by Living
Classroom School
Incursions. The
children came face to
face with native
animals, all in the
comfort of the school
undercover area (left).
On Sunday, our
students were once
again involved with
the Parish’s
Blessing of the
Fleet. The children
wore traditional
costumes and
processed through
the streets of
Fremantle (left).
On Tuesday, the
Year 6 class left
for their annual
camp at
Waroona. They
return on Friday
and will,
undoubtedly,
have many
exciting stories to
tell their families
(photo to the

The
Socktober
Fundraiser
last week
was a great
success
raising a
total of $216
for Catholic

not too late
to drop off
more socks

P & F News Thank you very much to everyone who was involved in making our Grandparents’ Day
special on Friday, from those that made a plate to the helpers on the day. It was a lovely morning with 122 Grandparents joining us for some time with the kids in the classroom,
morning tea and fantastic performances from Pre-Primary and Year 2.
Also, a big Congratulations to our Interschool Athletics team that competed so well at the
Interschool Carnival, they really did us proud!
A belated big thank you to our wonderful Teachers and Education Assistants at the school.
Friday was World Teachers’ Day and to show our appreciation the P&F put on some nibbles for the Teachers after school to say thank you.
A reminder that the Year 4 class Wine Fundraiser is still running so don’t forget to place
your orders either online if ordering a case or at the office if only ordering a few bottles. You
have until Thursday 22nd of November to place your orders. Thank you to the Year 4 mums
who organized the wine tasting last Thursday night. The Year 4s also have a fantastic
hamper being raffled off that is on display in the office. Tickets are available at the office to
purchase and it is now going to be drawn at the Edu Dance Concert.

You will have all received the Cyber Safety Presentation note that went out on SkoolBag this
week. This parent presentation is open to all parents of all years as the cyber world is affecting our children much younger these days. Put it in your diary so you don’t miss it and
make sure to RSVP! Surf Online Safe is a Perth based internet awareness business. Paul Litherland is a former WA Police Officer with 20+ years’ experience. From 2009 to 2014 Paul worked in the Technology Crime Investigation Unit working specifically with children and
their families. From here he realized there were limited resources or organisations educating children and parents about cyber safety so decided to leave the Police force and
set about educating children and families about cyber safety! The parent presentation will begin at 6.30pm and go for approx. 1 – 1.5 hours. Paul will
cover a wide range of topics which include;
Cyber Bullying – Legislations surrounding this and how it is affecting our kids; Digital Citizenship – Where our kids are going online, the Apps they use and the
information they are sharing;
Online Footprint – How easy it is to find kids online and what they can do to minimize the risk;
Social Networking & Networking in general – How the system works and how to overcome their reach;
Online Gaming and websites – Risks and uses; and Tips & Tricks – How to keep an eye on your kids through software and hardware. Easy
instruction on what we can do to keep them safe.
Please note in your diaries that the Term 4 P&F Meeting (the final meeting for the year)
will be held on Tuesday 13th November at 7pm in the Staff Room. As this is the final meeting of the year, we would love to see as many faces as possible.
It is now time for our Class Reps to decide if they will be continuing into 2019 or asking for new volunteers for each class. You will have all received an email from them so please
consider putting up your hand as the Class Rep is a great communication tool from the Class to the P&F and also someone who co-ordinates your class get-togethers. You only have to put in as much as you can—there are no expectations!
A reminder to please think about nominating for the 2019 P&F Executive Committee. All
positions will be up for nomination at this year’s AGM. These roles do not need to take up
too much of your time. How much you wish to be involved and put into the position is up to
you. The positions required to be filled are President, Vice President, Treasurer and
Secretary. Full support and hand-over will come with the positions.
