From the Principal Peter Donaldson

Dear Parents and Families, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Mount Erie is blessed to be supported by all of you and to work every day with your children. We all believe we have the best families and students in the world. Teachers and staff look forward to helping all of them reach their potential and experience success. We recently added these five core beliefs to our new Vision/Mission document, which was developed this year: • High expectations and quality instruction • Continuous growth and success • Learning that fosters collaboration, risk-taking and individual accountability • Partnership with families and the community • A caring, safe, and respectful environment

These considerations will direct our efforts as a school for many years to come and put us in a position to make real change. We’re grateful for your daily presence in the school, your advocacy with the greater community and your suggestions for improvement. Together we make this partnership work. Thanks as well for your support of material purchases which provide a benefit to students in the school. Here’s a short list of some of your impressive contributions: • Climbing wall (coming this summer) • Stage curtain • Gaga Ball court • Mountain School • Poet in Residence • Folk Dance Residency • Missoula Children’s Theater

Once again, our sincerest appreciation for everything you do as a parent organization and as a support for the school. I’m looking forward to an even better year in 13-14. Have a great summer and see you in September.

Great job walking, riding scooters and bikes, and taking the bus to school this spring and school year!

This spring, 50 to 181 Mt. Erie students were walking or wheeling to school on a daily basis.

Spring Record: 181 students, on May 8th, National Bike to School Day. o 237 students walked or wheeled to school on May 8, 2012! o 124 students walked or wheeled to school June 5th!

School Year Record: 248 students on Oct. 3rd, International Walk to School Day. This fall, we had 174 to 248 students walking or wheeling to school every

Wednesday! Outstanding! Look for more activities and improvements in the next school year. We’ll start off with a Bike Check in early September! By spring we may have a new bike rack!!! These past two years of events and road improvements have been funded through a Safe Routes to School grant. Fortunately, Anacortes received more funding through the Safe Routes to School program for 2013-2015.

Enjoy Biking, Walking, Skateboarding, and riding a Scooter this summer!

SUMMER BICYCLING! Family Fun Ride on July 6th from 10am to 1pm on the Tommy Thompson Trail. We will be set up at 22nd and R Avenue near the Skate Park with mechanics to give you a free bike tune and safety check, free helmets for kids (while supplies last) and a free drawing to win a new bike. Once your bike is checked out, enjoy a ride on the Thompson Trail. Family Fun Trail Ride on July 27th from 9am to 11 am. Meet at the Whistle Lake Parking lot.
