5th March 2015 Issue 3 Primary School Hello Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, It was very quiet around the schools during week 4 with our Year 6 students away on their annual camp to Bridgetown. The happy campers were very lucky with the weather and from all reports a great, but educational, time was had by all. Special mention goes to our Schools‟ staff who gave up their own time to attend the camp to ensure our students had an experience they will remember for a long time. As part of the Schools‟ commitment to road safety and the safety of all students, we are now part of the program called “Being Seen, Being Safe” in which all K- 3 students have been supplied with a “Hi Vis” vest to wear when walking to and from school. All students also took an oath to be Road Safety Champions. A special assembly was held on Wednesday 27th May to launch the Schools‟ involvement and future participation. The Schools‟ Board has met for the second time and is now an active part of the school community with a keen interest in „how the school operates and is managed‟. The Board consists of the following members: These Board Members are able to answer your queries or place items of discussion onto Board Meetings agendas if further information is required. It is very pleasing to see the school work, attitude and participation of all students at the moment. Everyone needs a huge pat on the back for their efforts. Monday, 1st June is Western Australia Day and a public holiday – hopefully you can attend some special event marking WA‟s foundation. Alan Hansen- Principal Education Support Centre Hello everyone, What a great effort for Pyjama Day this week! Well done to everyone who participated and thank you for your generous donations which will go towards the Nature Play Solutions Messy Day at the ESC camp which will be held later this year in September. We raised a total of $620 which is an outstanding result. We hope everyone had a fun day wearing their PJs all day! We are still looking for anyone interested in joining the School Board as an ESC representative. If this is you, please see me. Later this term ALL parents will be receiving a letter regarding the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). I urge you to read this letter carefully and make an informed decision prior to returning the letter to our Schools. The NCCD aims to collect an accurate national data set around students with disability each year. This is done via the Semester 2 Census in schools in August. The definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1992 is the basis for making a decision on which student have a disability. Parents have the right to “opt out” of the data collection for their child if they wish to do so. There is no funding linked to the NCCD. Mrs Hubert will be taking maternity leave in Semester 2 and we are currently in the process of advertising to fill her position. We wish her all the best for the arrival of her new baby and look forward to her return next year. I am taking some of my long service leave for the last two weeks of this term and the first two weeks of next term. I am very pleased that in my absence Mrs Benbow will take over my role in Term 2 and Mrs Savell-Stewart will do Term 3. During this term both of these teachers have been taking time out of their teaching roles to work shadow me in preparation for this – and they are very able students. Everything will run as usual, so please feel free to contact them if you need anything. Mrs Dawson is also taking some long service leave in Term 3 for the first few weeks and Mrs Lauren Wilson will be taking her class while she is away. Rooms 15 & 17 Present 2D & 3D Shapes.

On Thursday, 7th May, we presented our assembly which was all about 2D and

3D shapes. We had loads of fun rehearsing our song and parts. We especially

enjoyed finding jokes with a shape theme. We are so proud of ourselves with

how well we did on the day.

In our classrooms, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We created

2D shape monsters which we then described using the types of shapes we used

and their related features. We think they turned out brilliantly!

We have also been learning about symmetry and have created symmetrical

bugs. These ones don‟t bite or sting, but don‟t they look beautiful?!

We have also been exploring 3D nets and have made some 3D shapes from

these nets. You may even find some Angry Bird and

Minion 3D shapes around our rooms.

We have LOVED learning

about shapes. We especially

loved being able to be

creative in maths!
