Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s): We are entering one of the most beautiful times of the year in our liturgical calendar. The season of Advent is that time when we celebrate and anticipate the birth of Jesus. We are waiting for His birth and prepare for the arrival with a great deal of excitement and energy. During this season, we reflect on God’s greatest gift to us-the Saviour of the world. Advent is a time of preparation, a period to get ourselves in a state of readiness to receive the Saviour of the world. During this season of Advent, we pause as a Catholic educational community to once again retell our Biblical story of Jesus’ birth. As you walk through the doors at St. Jane Frances School, you will see numerous signs of preparations for this special time of the year. This month’s virtue is Charity. Many of us are already engaging in the mad rush to purchase gifts to put under the tree on Christmas Day, but let us be mindful of the fact that charity is not always about giving material things. Our quote for the month is “Where charity and love are, God is there”. As St. Thomas Aquinas described it “Charity is friendship first with God and secondly with all who belong to God.” (2a2ae, 25, 4). How can we practice charity and generosity in our community with necessarily giving material things? Join with us by also assisting your child(ren) in re-discovering that “Jesus is the reason for the Season”. Here at St. Jane Frances, our students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 are preparing for their Primary Christmas Concert on December 10 th , at 7:00 PM. Our Primary Christmas Concert will be one of our most important highlights during this festive and holy season since it will provide us with the opportunity to gather as a faith community to celebrate and enjoy watching our children preform. In addition, students throughout the school are soon to begin getting involved with the many wonderful Christmas activities. Classrooms and hallways are beautifully decorated for this special time of the year. Children are nervously excited about our upcoming Primary Christmas Concert and pictures with Santa Claus. It’s with mixed emotions that we share with you that Signora Isabella, our Italian International Language Instructor will be retiring at Christmas. Signora Isabella has made a tremendous contribution to the St. Jane Frances Catholic School community over the past 13 years. She will be dearly missed by everyone. We thank you Signora Isabella for all of your great work, dedication and positive spirit you shared with us on a daily basis over the years. Best wishes and Happy Retirement! We wish you the best. We also would like to Congratulate Signora Navarez, our Spanish International Language Instructor, who after Christmas will be placed on the occasional teacher supply list. We wish her the best of luck! On behalf of the staff we wish all of our families at St. Jane Frances Community a very happy, joyful and healthy Christmas and may the New Year bring a reaffirmation of faith and love from our friends and family and peace throughout the world that God created. Thank you to everyone in our community for your efforts in making the first three months a successful one! MONTHLY VIRTUES Charity Our Virtue for December is Charity. Charity can be shown in many ways. Remember throughout Advent that Charity begins at home and moves forward in all we do. Let the Christmas season create Charity in your actions throughout the year. If we expect other people to do charitable acts towards us, we must first remember to show generosity towards others. We should always remember those less fortunate than us, especially in a season filled with giving.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATES And so is the winter weather. Get all the latest information about cancellations and closures throughout the winter months, and all year long by following @TCDSB on Twitter.

WINTER CLOTHING AND BOOTS With winter around the corner, please remind your children to come to school with appropriate footwear (boots) and winter clothes to keep them warm and dry from the elements. Please ensure that your child(ren) have a pair of boots to wear for the outdoors and have a dry pair of running shoes for indoors. A suggestion for parents of younger children, please send an extra pair of socks, gym clothes etc. to school in the event that your child gets wet. In addition, the younger children like to

slide in the snow, snowpants would also be helpful.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR November 11th to November 15th was a very busy and exciting time in the St. Jane Frances School Library where we held our Annual Scholastic Book Fair. All classes first visited the book fair to preview the books and make a wish list. Older students helped the primary grades to write down titles of books they wished to purchase. Later they came back to purchase their books. We would like to thank the St. Jane Frances School Community for once again making this year’s Scholastic book fair very successful. Because of your interest and support, a good amount of new books were purchased for the library. FRENCH AFTER SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAM The French After School Support Program for 2013-2014 will start on January 8, 2014 for students from grade 4 to 8. REMEMBRANCE DAY CERMONY

On November 11th, 2013 the St. Jane Frances School community came together to recognize and remember those who made the sacrifice of going to war to protect the innocent. Students and adults came together in the atrium for a ceremony planned by Madame Pletzer, Ms. Couto, Ms. Zupan and Ms. Brennan. Intermediate students took the stage for the opening reading as well as the French rendition of the poem, “In Flanders Field”. Ms. Porter’s Grade 2 students did a dramatization of the poem and then we all paused for the minute of silence. Mr. Pletzer ended the minute of silence with a recording of a trumpet playing, “Last Post”. Ms. Brennan directed the School Choir in singing beautiful songs. All students demonstrated respect for our veterans by sitting quietly through the entire ceremony.

Volleyball This year the Boys Intermediate volleyball team did a fantastic job displaying leadership, sportsmanship and much effort. Congratulations to all team members for a great season:

Ideer, Paul, Andre, Kelvin, Angelo, Gonzalo, Jonathan, Justin, Mario, Brian, Bruce, Gerado, and Victor

Both Ms. Mercuri and Mr. Turco are proud of the dedication from the team. Thank you coaches for volunteering your time! On Thursday November 14, the Intermediate Girls attended their Volleyball Tournament at St. Wilfrid. We are very proud of the entire team.
