More than any other time of the year, Advent is the season of hope, the season that projects us into the future. The readings from the prophets during the season of Advent almost always begin with the words “In the days to come” and they all speak about a future filled with peace and knowledge of God’s presence. Advent moves us to quietly reflect on the God who took on human flesh and was born among us. It is that same God who will come again in glory to establish the Kingdom of Peace for all eternity. We are living at a time when for some people, feeling hopeful might be a challenge. Our country is more divided than ever between red states and blue states, hate crimes continue to rise, we continue to struggle with immigration and welcoming the stranger. Beyond all that, there is risk of potential nuclear war with North Korea and so many have fled their home and have become refugees because of war and violence. Advent calls us back to hope, it calls us to rise above disagreements and political divisions. We are called to the place of prayer and humble discernment. I want to invite you to join us for a special Advent Vigil for Peace this Tuesday, Decem- ber 5th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. En Español
Un nuevo Año de la Iglesia ha comenzado y con él la hermosa temporada de Adviento. Más que cualquier otra época del año, Advent es la temporada de esperanza, la temporada que nos proyecta hacia el futuro. Las lecturas de los profetas durante el tiempo de Adviento casi siempre comienzan con las palabras “En los días venideros” y todos hablan sobre un futuro lleno de paz y conocimiento de la presencia de Dios. El Adviento nos mueve a reflexionar silenciosamente sobre el Dios que tomó carne humana y nació entre nosotros. Es ese mismo Dios que vendrá nuevamente en gloria para establecer el Reino de Paz por toda la eternidad.
Estamos viviendo en un momento en que para algunas perso-nas, sentirse esperanzado podría ser un desafío. Nuestro país está más dividido que nunca entre los estados rojos y azules, los crímenes de odio continúan aumentando, seguimos luchando con la inmigración y dando la bienvenida al extraño. Más allá de todo eso, existe el riesgo de una potencial guerra nuclear con Corea del Norte y muchos han huido de su hogar y se han convertido en refugiados debido a la guerra y la violencia. El Adviento nos llama a la esperanza, nos llama a superar los de-sacuerdos y las divisiones políticas. Somos llamados al lugar de oración y discernimiento humilde.
Quiero invitarlos a que se unan a nosotros para una Vigilia Espe-cial de Adviento por la Paz este martes, 5 de diciembre de 7:00 pm a 9:00 pm. ¿Qué mejor manera de celebrar el Adviento que reunirnos como una comunidad de fe en la oración y las expec-tativas? ¿Qué mejor manera hay para renovar nuestra esperan-za que para reunirnos como una comunidad bellamente diversa en comunión y humildad para orar por todos los pueblos de Dios que sufren?
Vigilia por la Paz
Te invitamos a que te unas a nosotros el martes 5 de diciembre por la noche para una Vigilia de Adviento para la Paz especial de 7:00 pm a 9:00 pm. La Navidad proclama “Paz para el pueblo de Dios en la tierra”, por lo que nos reunimos para orar para que la paz de Cristo se convierta en realidad en nuestro mundo y en nuestro país. Con el peligro de una guerra nuclear con Corea del Norte, el peligro de actos aleatorios de terrorismo, el número de tiroteos masivos y el aumento de crímenes de odio, tenemos que reunirnos como cristianos y orar por la paz.

News from Mission GrammarOur Third Grade performed “You Raise Me Up” at Emmanuel College this month to celebrate Thanksgiving at their Interfaith Prayer Service.
