The following positions are open with the Local Health Services Branch for qualified personnel to staff a new Regional Office in Ottawa:

Regional Medical Officer: $21,800 $24,900 ($23,300 - $26,700 S'Äo )

This physician will act as consultant and adviser in public health and will be responsible for the operation of the Regional Office of the Local Health Services Branch. QUALIFICATIONS: Licence to practise medicine in Ontario; diploma in public health or equivalent; five years' experience in an official agency; proven ability; personal suitability.

Regional Consultant

Public Health Nursing: $10,100 - $11,400 (under review)

This individual will provide consultative services on public health nursing to local health agencies under the direction of the Regional Medical Officer, and will receive professional guidance from the Senior Consultant, Public Health Nursing. QUALIFICATIONS: Registration as a nurse in Ontario; preparation in public health nursing, supervision and administration; a Bachelor of Nursing Science; at least five years' experience since registration, some of which includes experience in general public health nursing including two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity; ability to provide nursing advice and guidance on a consultative basis; personal suitability. TORONTO OFFICE: A similar position is open in Toronto for the Central Region.

Regional Consultant

Public Health Inspection: $9,300 -$10,800 ($9,800 -$11,500 S»o)

As a qualified inspector, this individual will provide consultative services to local public health agencies under the direction of the Regional Medical Officer, and will receive professional guidance from the Senior Consultant in Public Health Inspection. QUALIFICATIONS: Public Health Inspector's Certificate; at least five years of progres- sively responsible related experience; knowledge of inspectional techniques, sanitation standards, Ontario statutes and regulations; proven ability and personal suitability.

for review. Manuscripts should be typewritten double spaced with wide margins on 8V2" X 11" plain paper. A short summary of the content should accompany each article. The Editor reserves the right to make editorial changes. Photographs (glossy prints) should be distinct and drawings should be made in black ink on white paper. The top and bottom of diagrams should be indicated on the reverse and a brief caption should accompany all illustrations and tables. References should conform to the style of Index Medicus and be cited numerically in the order in which they appear in the text.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND WELFARE

FREDERICTON Implementation of the Equal Opportunity program in New Brunswick has led to an increasing number of improvements in establishment and enforcement of uniform standards in sanitation, food control, housing, and related areas. To ensure on-going improvements in this field, the successful applicant will be required to help formulate and supervise the application of health inspection policies and practices, to assist in the formulation of legislation and regulations, and to meet with the public and lay organizations regarding new or important legislation. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation supplemented by completion of a recognized course in sanitation, including university level courses in environmental sanitation, and extensive progressively responsible experi- ence in sanitation inspection. Possession of a certificate in Public Health Inspection as issued by the Canadian Public Health Association is essential. Bilingualism (French and English), while not a condition of employment would be a definite asset. SALARY RANGE: $8,484 to $10,308 per annum.

CHIEF OF EPIDEMIOLOGY

ONTARIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Salary: $24,994 - $28,594 (October 1/70)

An unusual opportunity exists in the Ontario Department of Health for a well qualified specialist to fill the position of Chief of Epidemiology in the Public Health Division. This is a senior consultant position in the Department, with full responsibility for the promotion, development and direction of epidemiological programs, in co-operation with family physicians, local health agencies, hospital authorities, and Health Science Centers. A special challenge in the immediate future will be the implementation of a revised venereal disease control program. Other areas requiring overall supervisory responsibility are: immunization programs including the distribution of free drugs and biologicals, zoonoses control, collection and interpretation of statistical data, investigations into unusual disease outbreaks and recommendations for control, administration of various Provincial health grants. Qualifications for appointment include: licence to practise medicine in Ontario, Diploma in Public Health, good background of training and experience in field of epidemiology and proven administrative ability.
