In early September, GF Piping Systems Singapore participated for the first time at Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE), the leading trade exhibition dedicated to energy efficient solutions in HVAC-R, Plumbing Technology and Solar Energy. Many existing and potential customers dropped by at the GF booth, where the latest solutions were showcased, e.g. Fuseal system for drainage, low noise Silenta 3A system for waste water and COOL-FIT, the pre-insulated plastic piping system for unrivaled energy efficiency.

In touch with your levelNon-contact and guided radar level transmitter GF Piping Systems closes a gap in its offering with the new radar level transmitters type 2290/2291 for the chemical process industry and water treatment. They are used in challenging tank applications where other contacting or non-contacting measuring principles face limitations. The level transmitter type 2290 combines all advantages of radar level measurement in an compact and economical unit. Type 2290 is available in a variety of different materials to resist even the most corrosive environments. With its tank mapping function it is easy to block out objects like internal pipes, welding seams, stirrers or heating elements. If it gets really tough, the guided radar level transmitter type 2291 is the right choice. It provides consistent measurement even in turbulent process vessels. The radar signal is sent down the probe assembly eliminating the interferences caused by low dielectric liquids, heavy fuming, slightly conductive foams or internal tank obstructions. Both transmitters are optimally suited for applications in harsh environments. Transmitter type 2290 is available with PP or PTFE antennas whilst type 2291 can be delivered with either stainless steel or FEP coated rope or stainless steel or PFA or PP coated rod.

Designed to performIM Butt Fusion Machines
The new butt-fusion machine for industrial applications IM 160 is now available. It combines light weight and high flexibility with a distortion free structure. Designed for straight jointing of PE, PP, PB, PVDF pipes and fittings up to diameter of 160mm, it incorporates various clever features to simplify the preparation of parts to be connected and to secure a reliable welding process. The IM 250 and IM 315 complete the product range of the Industrial Machine lineup to sizes d250 mm and d315 mm: base machine frame, clamping devices and fusion force transfer mechanism are properly designed to reliably work with bigger pipes and fittings dimensions. The IM line has been engineered to be compact, sturdy and highly flexible for butt fusion of pipe and fittings with diameter up to 315mm. Moreover, the machine type SG 125 is also available to integrate the product range: it is specifically designed for socket fusion jointing up to d125 mm. The IM machines include several features to make the operator’s job easier: the fast-locking handles and the light clamp reduction inserts are designed to speed up the pipes and fittings preparation. The ergonomic and high sensitivity handwheel drive permitsto finely adjust the welding force and to comply with the change-over time within the complete pipes and fittings dimensional range. The machines are compatible with all GF plastic fittings.

The existing range of clamping and positioning tools will be extended with the clamping device with universal link up to d630mm. Models for one daySingaporean GF staff represents corporate value “We act fast”
Singapore. Unusual business for our Regional Sales Support (RSS) team Singapore: Instead of helping customers to fix on-site issues and train workers on different welding methods, our Service team swapped their profession and turned into models for one day. Reason for the professional photoshooting with Singapores well known photographer Bryan van der Beek are the five values, an essential part of GF’s company culture. To visualize how our employees worldwide live them on a daily base, GF called for representative pictures. Out of 120 contributions, the Singaporean team was chosen to represent the value “We act fast”. “Be available to our customers and provide a fast solution for their problems is part of our daily routine, says Sam Tan, RSS Manager. “It’s easy to understand that our customers need fast and reliable support if you put yourself in their shoes”, he explains. Sam’s biggest challenge during the photoshooting, which took place in the Service Room of Singapore office, was the big smile he needed to hold for hours and keep his eyes wide open while being blinded by the cameras flash. “Being a model is not as easy as it seems”, agrees Sky Ng, Senior Service Engineer. He and his colleague Keith Tan will be seen in the background of the new posters, carrying a PVDF pipe on their shoulders.

Heading for heightsKuala Lumpur. Malaysia is booming. New roads and skyscrapers are going up virtually everywhere in the conurbations. The country is building its future based on “Vision 2020”, a national mega-project that aims to transform this emerging economy into an industrial nation over the course of the next four years with new airports, residential complexes and a modern infrastructure. New hotels are also part of the growing city. Currently under construction in the capital Kuala Lumpur is the five-star hotel Four Seasons, due to open in 2017. At 343 meters it will be the highest hotel in the whole of Malaysia.
International collaborationAs far as Building Technology Sales Manager Ariffin Lim of GF Piping Systems in Malaysia and his colleagues of GF Hakan Plastik are concerned, the project currently means one thing above all: hard work. While the division in Malaysia is taking care of the future water supply in the Four Seasons Hotel with Aquasystem pipes, their colleagues in Turkey are producing and supplying the pipelines for the waste water system Silenta 3A. Both teams are working to a tight schedule: the aim is install at least 90,000 meters of pipes made by GF Piping Systems in the new luxury establishment - and it has to be finished soon. Ariffin Lim is still proud that GF Piping Systems won the contract for this ambitious large-scale project. He and his colleagues at GF Piping Systems in Malaysia were able to convince the construction company responsible that they were just the right partners to take on the challenge. “First, we only offered our Aquasystem. But then it turned out that the customer needed also a waste water solution. “This was why we brought in our colleagues from Turkey: They are specialists in this field. We put together a convincing overall package”, says Lim. The main reasons GF Piping Systems was awarded the contract was due to the quality and sustainability of the products. Aquasystem and Silenta 3A for prestigous Four Seasons Hotel in Kuala Lumpurhave a service life of more than 50 years - twice as long as their copper equivalents. Additionally they do not require frequent maintenance work, since they are resilient to deposits and microbial contamination. Silenta 3A, on the other hand, impressed the customer with its highly effective noise insulation, an advantage appreciated not just by hotel guests but also clients as it saves work and expenditure on additional noise insulation systems. The time factor was crucial in negotiations. The installation of the Aquasystem and Silenta 3A components is straightforward and time-saving. “Our solutions are more than 25 percent faster to install. That’s what ultimately convinced the client. Time is money - and that applies in Malaysia, too”, says Lim.
Teamwork across two countriesWork on the project has been in progress since September 2015. Since then, Ariffin Lim has been in constant contact with the customer, takes care of cost projections and regularly talks to his colleagues at GF Hakan Plastik. They produce the piping systems for Silenta 3A in Turkey and then ship them to Kuala Lumpur. It’s the first time GF Hakan Plastik has sold Silenta 3A in Southeast Asia. “Since we don’t have any experience with these systems here in Malaysia to date, we’re glad to have the support offered by our Turkish colleagues,” explains Lim. “Of course it’s a challenge to coordinate everything across two countries. But it’s fun, because we really do get on well,” he says.
The Board of Trustees of the Clean Water Foundation of GF has approved six new projects at the biannual meeting. More than 15,000 people in Asia, Africa and Latin America will receive a sustainably improved supply of drinking water. Most of the approved projects will be carried out by Caritas Switzerland. GF has extended the collaborative agreement, which has been in place since 2012, from November 2015 until 2019. Projects will be implemented in Mongla (Bangladesh), in Siem Reap (Cambodia) as well as in Kericho County (Kenya). In Bangladesh the purpose is to continue to build up an extensive network of small merchants who can treat the water using simple methods and turn it into quality drinking water, then to sell it to the population at an affordable rate. As part of the collaboration, GF will also support Caritas Switzerland with the project and quality management.Furthermore, the Board of Trustees approved a drinking water project in Canton Pelileo (Ecuador), as well as a project which ensures the necessary infrastructure for the year-round drinking water supply of three health centers in Ancuabe (Mozambique).
