RE: 2017 COMMUNITY SURVEY BACKGROUND The City of Fruita generally conducts a Community Survey every two (2) years; however, due to budget constraints a Community Survey has not been done since 2013. The Community Survey is designed to give City elected and appointed officials feedback on a wide range of issues including police services, road maintenance, recreation services, hospital services, and various other topics. The 2017 survey will be the tenth community survey the City has undertaken since 1995. The 2017 survey will be different from past surveys in that we are partnering with Family Health West (Colorado Canyons Hospital) and the Mesa County Health Department (Communities That Care) who will also have questions on this survey. Some of the information requested in this survey helps provide trends with past community surveys, which we use to gauge our progress and priorities on City services and programs, as well as in decision-making that impacts the community. As the physical, emotional and mental health of our residents is critical to our community, we celebrate our partnership with Family Health West and the Mesa County Health Department and emphasize the importance of the information we collectively seek from all residents. $5,000 has been allocated in the 2017 budget for this survey. In addition, Family Health West and the Mesa County Health Department will also provide $5,000 each toward survey costs. The cost for the 2017 survey is $ 14,355. In 2009 and 2013, ETC Institute was chosen to conduct the Community survey and ETC Institute will be again conducting the 2017 survey. Surveys are scheduled to be mailed to every home in the City of Fruita by no later than August 23, 2017. Final results will be available in October 2017. ETC Institute will be at the October 17, 2017 City Council Meeting to present survey results. Attached is the final draft of the 2017 survey your review before it is mailed to City of Fruita

AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET

TO:

FRUITA CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR FROM:

MICHAEL BENNETT, CITY MANAGER

DATE:

August 22, 2017

RE:

RESOLUTIONS OF SUPPORT

BACKGROUND Two funding requests will be placed before Mesa county residents in the upcoming November 2017 election. One deals with Mesa County School District 51 requesting a bond measure and mill levy override and the second is Mesa County proposing a public safety tax to increase sales tax county-wide. Mesa County will be providing a Public Safety Tax Open House at the Fruita Community Center from 4 – 5 pm on Tuesday September 26. District 51 School Board members and staff met with City Council at an earlier City Council workshop to provide an overview of how the funds would be spent throughout the District. Both groups would like City Council to consider drafting a letter or resolution of support for each initiative. This agenda item will provide time for a brief discussion to decide whether or not Council would like staff to draft these resolutions and place them on a future City Council meeting for further discussion and possible adoption.
