Page 6: Fruits of The Spirit

Love• Paul describes the

attributes of this love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: – Love is patient, love is

kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

• "We love because he first loved us."  (I John 4:19)

Joy• 1 Thessalonians 1:6,

– ‘You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.’

• The Thessalonians were under great stress due to persecution; yet in the midst of it all, they continued to experience great joy.

• Joy is like long-term happiness and means more than simply being gratified

Page 8: Fruits of The Spirit

Peace• Jesus is described as

the Prince of Peace, who brings peace to the hearts of those who desire it.

• He says in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Why Should We Care about Fruits of The Spirit?• The Fruits of the Spirit are gifts from

God• They make us the people that we

want to become• ‘By their Fruits you will know them’ –

Matthew 7:16-20 (Sermon on the Mount)

How to get the Fruits of the Spirit?• Abide in Christ• ‘As the branch cannot bear fruit of

itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing’ John 15:4

How do we abide in Christ?• ‘To be alive and fruitful

a tree should be planted by the rivers of water in order to bring forth its fruit in its season’ (Ps 1:3)

• If you plant yourself away from the river you give yourself no chance of bearing fruit
