9th Offshore Jet-ski World title

for Jean-Bruno Pastorello The Offshore Jet-ski World Championship organized by IJSBA (International Jet Sports Boating Association) ran over two rounds. This season, competition started on a blue but rough sea in Martinique and ended in Vladivostok, Russia, on the Sea of Japan. The FUCHS Silkolene rider, Jean-Bruno Pastorello, had to beat some of his toughest competitors to defend his title. These were Christophe Lycaon and Jean Jashi, both from Guadeloupe, but also the Russian star Yury Ryabko. The 2016 final took place amongst the huge Russian submarines. Exciting battles were waged between all the riders, in particular with the Russian racers who wanted to uphold their honor on their territory. Pastorello had developed a cunning strategy and was also supported by the spirit of the team. He and Jean-Baptiste Botti, the other rider of the team, finished on the podium. Jean-Bruno Pastorello added a ninth world title to his track record and left his mark on this sport – an exceptional record in the motorsport world.

After a successful season with national and international titles, a fifth victory in the famous 300 miles on the Havasu Lake (USA) and the European Jet-ski champion title, the nine-time-world champion will take up another challenge in a few days. In fact, the Kawasaki rider is striving for the triple win of the laurel crown of the French Endurance Championship. This event will take place in Cavalaire, the capital of jet-skiing in France.

First good results in GP USA

for Darian Sanayei Just few weeks after winning the EMX250 European vice-champion title, American Darian Sanayei made his start in the MX2 World Championship. It was on the Charlotte track in North Carolina that the young rider of the Bud Racing Kawasaki team secured his first top 7, riding his Kawasaki. Inexperienced for this level of competition, the 19-year-old rider nevertheless crossed the finish line with an excellent 7th place in the first round and took the lead after an incredible start in the second round. The last Grand Prix of the season is scheduled at Glen Helen, a track that the rider knows well.

Xavier Boog victorious

at the Pro Hexis Supercross After being crowned Outdoor Supercross French champion last month, the talented rider of the Kawasaki Bud Racing team, Xavier Boog participed in the three races of the Pro Hexis Supercross. On the Supercross circuit, the 28-year-old rider continues to collect victories and tries to win the fiercely contested title by beating seasoned competitors including his main rival Thomas Ramette. “I did not specifically focus on the Pro Hexis Supercross title. Although it's great to have one more title”, said Xavier. “After eleven years of competition including nine in the FIM Motocross World Championship, I still enjoy competing and interacting with other competitors. The only downside in this business are the wounds!” Xavier is intensively preparing to compete in the four races of the Indoor Supercross XT Tour and the Supercross Paris-Bercy and of course wants to win more titles!

FUCHS: privileged partner

of the Aspang Race More than 1,000 riders left the starting line at the same time in the 13th Aspang Race organized by the Aspang Enduro Club. This notorious enduro race over 12km took place between 26 and 28 August. “For the third time, FUCHS AUSTRIA SCHMIERSTOFFE sponsored the second largest off-road race in Austria”, explained Markus Kollenz, FUCHS Application Engineer. For three days, the riders delivered top performances, were covered in clouds of rock dust, rode over steep slopes in the stone quarry and raced on narrow, winding forest tracks. On Sunday, the race welcomed the 5- to 18-year-old riders and the prowess of these young talents delighted fans and the crowd. Famous riders, well-known in the world of motocross, such as Pascal Rauchenecker, 2015 Austria motocross champion, and Alfredo Gomez, the famous winner of the 2015 Erzberg Rodeo, participated in these prestigious races. They were fully commited and battled it out with the other racers. The MSC-Mattighofen team, who has been supported by FUCHS AUSTRIA SCHMIERSTOFFE for many years, had a very successful weekend on the race track, too. After magnificent battles, Markus Geier secured 2nd place in the Elite class behind Pascal Rauchenecker. Markus won the “team event” race with his teammate Florian Reichinger on Sunday. The third rider of the team, Walter Feichtinger, shone with the victory in the “team event race” on Saturday.

UK MGA at Bonneville In 2016, the MGA built by Walker-Chapman Performance Engineering came to Bonneville Salt Flats (USA) to race in the SCTA Speed Week. The team comprised the owner Colin Walker, the driver David Chapman (who worked for a FUCHS customer) and the mechanic Stephen Walker. The team chose to race on a 1961 MGA powered by a Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V8 using FUCHS TITAN Supersyn F Eco-B SAE 5W-20. They first brought the car to Wendover near Bonneville in 2014, but did not get on to the salt as the surface was deemed unsuitable for racing. At that time they met Richard Stuhaan who raced many times on the salt and therefore his experience was invaluable. The team was also greatly helped by Steve Davies of the SCTA for the interpretation of the rules over the two years it took to build the car.

Busy August for Adam Morgan! Middle of August, Adam Morgan ended at Knockhill, Scotland with a fighting 7th place in the seventh race of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship securing precious points in the competition at the wheel of his FUCHS LUBRICANTS (UK) backed Mercedes Benz A-Class. Fifteen days later, Adam Morgan powered his way to three point-scoring finishes at Rockingham and took 9th overall in the championship. “We have had some fantastic racing and Adam delivered in style. He was always on the attack, never giving up, never settling for a place but pushing all the time”, said WIX Racing’s Commercial Director Norman Burgess.

After five years of projects, the team was ready this year to run in the D/BFMS class, which is for cars with engines up to 5,014cc, with blowers, running on any fuel, with a modified sports body. For his first time at Bonneville, David Chapman had to familiarize himself with the track and learn emergency procedures. His objectives are to obtain an E, C and B licence, and eventually an A licence. Despite a few problems with the car, David had enough good runs to get his B and C licence after a week of races. “The course was cutting up pretty bad, but the car went quicker every day! Final run was 195mph through the four mile and an exit speed of 199.7mph”, said David Chapman who aims to break the current record of 200 mph in 2017.

Cycle Tour of the

Potteries The first ever Cycle Tour of the Potteries has been hailed an outstanding success after more than 100 cyclists displayed their pedal power across Stoke and neighboring areas. They took to the road from FUCHS LUBRICANTS (UK) headquarters over three routes, 50km, 100km and 150km, plus there was also a special family ride. Amongst the cyclists taking part were four-times British Superbike champion and current championship leader Shane ’Shakey’ Byrne, who was in the first group of riders home from the 100km route in a time of four hours 39 minutes. British Touring Car Championship star Adam Morgan also attended the event, while Stoke’s five-time British and European Trial champion Danny Butler entertained entrants with his spectacular stunt show. All three donned the competition winning Tour of the Potteries cycling jersey which was designed by eight-year-old school pupil Reece Lanning. The ‘design a jersey’ competition was open to primary school children across Stoke and the winner had his design made into an actual cycling jersey, as well as winning a stunt show from Danny for his school. “The day was an outstanding success. It was the first time we have hosted the event and we were really pleased with how everything went. After the success of team GB at the Olympics, there is a really strong feel-good factor around cycling and we were delighted to build on that with the Tour of the Potteries”, said Joost Van Genderen, Head of FUCHS Silkolene. Paige Bellerby flies high

at Lydden Hill Paige Bellerby, Britain’s leading rally cross lady, had a busy bank holiday at Lydden Hill rally cross circuit, 29th August. She wowed the spectators with some spectacular driving to comfortably maintain her 2nd position in the Super National class of the MSA British Rallycross Championship despite her Lotus Exige, which normally has in excess of 260 brake horsepower, intermittently losing power. “I had a great start and came out in front of Tony Lynch but I made a slight mistake through the chicane over the finish line point and dropped a place. From there the car began to lose power on and off and we lost several more places”, said Paige. Paige’s 18-year-old sister Drew drove fantastically well to win the third qualifying race in the Suzuki Swift Championship, moving her up to 5th overall. “I am pleased with the progress I am making now. After the accident last time out in Belgium I lost some confidence but after a few races and taking my first win I think I’ve definitely got my mojo back”, said Drew. “We’re so proud of what they are achieving in motorsport. Their achievements are great in a sport which is dominated by men”, said Sally Travis, FUCHS LUBRICANTS (UK) Marketing Manager.

Great Britain Byrne victorious again at Cadwell Park

Be Wiser Ducati Racing team and FUCHS Silkolene sponsored rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne continued his winning ways at round eight of the MCE British Superbike Championship with another superb victory in the opening race at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire in August. This result confirmed his place in the season-ending Showdown as he strives for title number 5! In front of the biggest crowd of the season and in glorious conditions, the first 18-lap race saw Byrne pass close rival Haslam at the Gooseneck on the final lap and hang on to take his seventh win of the season and with it, career win number 75. The second race later in the day saw the safety car deployed after a first lap crash and Shakey dropped to 3rd. A titanic battle ensued with Byrne shadowing Haslam and O’Halloran but he couldn’t find a way past so had to settle for 3rd place and another vital podium point for the Showdown. Teammate Glenn Irwin started the first race from 11th on the grid and soon found his rhythm to finish the race in an excellent 5th place. From 7th place on the grid in the second race he dropped back in the first few laps, but again started to move forward as the laps counted down. Up to 9th on lap eight, followed by another overtaking manoeuvre on lap twelve which moved him up to 7th and this was where he finished for his second solid points haul of the day.

Linus Sundstrom Racing:

one single point missing! Long-term FUCHS Silkolene sponsorship partner, Linus Sundstrom currently rides all over Europe through Polish and Swedish Clubs, in Speedway Championships. Linus’s hometown Club Masarna missed out on this year’s playoffs by one single point. Club Masarna were newcomers in the Swedish top division elite series for 2016 and the expectations for the team were not too high. But after a strong first half the hopes grew and they were really pushing and aiming for a spot in the playoffs but missed out in the last round by only one point. Disappointed, Linus, team captain of the Club, agreed that they have however made massive steps forward during the last twelve months and have built up a very good platform for 2017. With the Swedish season over, more meetings are still to take place with his other Clubs Valsarna in the Swedish Allsvenskan and in Gdansk with his Polish league 1 team. “All riders are working hard to move forward and we are taking the positives with us!”, said Linus.

Great 4th finish in Ulster

for David Bogie The FUCHS LUBRICANTS (UK) backed team did a magnificent job to ensure all three of its cars finished the penultimate round of the MSA British Rally Championship. David Bogie finished 4th overall and top CA1 Sport driver in his Skoda Fabia R5 after conquering extremely slippery conditions on the John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally. Alex Laffey scoring points and Fredrik Åhlin setting two fastest stage times in their Ford Fiesta R5s. Heavy showers made life difficult for the drivers on the 133 mile event played out over 14 stages on fast and greasy tarmac roads in Northern Ireland. Fredrik Åhlin was competing in his new-look black and gold R5, with the FUCHS logo proudly displayed on the bumper. Bad luck saw the racer drive the last two miles of stage two with a puncture but the fastest time on stage five took him back to 6th at the end of the first day on his Ulster Rally debut. Unfortunately, miscommunication inside the car saw the Swedish driver get stuck in a fence on day two, meaning he ultimately finished outside the BRC points in 22nd position. Bogie, meanwhile, set consistently fast times and, despite a late wheel bearing drama, finished a very strong 4th. Three punctures cost Laffey a lot of time, but he still managed to bring his Fiesta home in 14th position, securing a points-scoring finish. The final round of the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship will be the legendary Rally Isle of Man.

A hard and stressful race! The TT circuit in Assen, The Netherlands, hosted the ‘501 of Assen’, a legendary endurance race of 501km. The 111-lap race was kicked off with the well-known ‘Le Mans’ start. The drivers ran across the track to get onto their bikes. The Kryptonite team, partner of FUCHS Silkolene, was composed of René Schokker, Remo Woudstra and Niels Fijn. Due to great qualifying results, they started in 16th place on the grid among 55 other teams. “After some technical issues, we were forced to start from the last position,” explained Remo. The first stint was managed by Niels who made a good job and climbed up to 24th place. René continued to proceed to the front and reached 20th position. At the end, thanks to years of experience, the team crossed the checkered flag on a nice 11th place. “Taking all events into account – technical issues and an extra driver change – it is a very decent result!”.

V8 Supercars go Retro to

celebrate the Sandown 500 2016 will be the 47th time Sandown Raceway has hosted an Australian Supercars event – the most important of any venue. Supercars will be celebrating this by promoting the 2016 Wilson Security Sandown 500 as a ‘Retro Round’, with a view to bringing back the look and feel of the touring car eras of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Supercars teams and sponsors are supporting this one off event, through activating historic car liveries and retro team uniforms. FUCHS LUBRICANTS (AUSTRALASIA) sponsored BRAD JONES RACING cars have joined the initiative along with the BOC team car displaying the FUCHS logo from the 80’s era. “Our sponsors have played a big part in our retro livery design. I know a lot of photos were going back and forth to get ideas and inspiration and everyone is really pleased with the result”, said the freightliner racing driver Tim Slade, who is currently sitting comfortably in the top ten of the Supercars Championship.

Italy Nicolas Covatti and Nicolas Vicentin,

the Kings of Latvia! On 24 August, the blue team of Nicolas Covatti and Nicolas Vicentin claimed a historic victory in the final of the European Pairs Speedway Championship at Riga (Latvia). The wonderful performance of Nicolas Covatti, holder of the best single score with eleven points, secured the title for Italy ahead of the teams from Denmark and Latvia. This final stage in the Baltics was brought to a halt by the rain after 18 of 21 rounds because the track had become dangerous. “Such a title can’t be won just by luck, more so considering that the race conditions were not easy”, said the head coach of the Italian Motorcycle Federation, Alessandro Dalla Valle. “The adverse weather conditions and mechanical problems of Vicentin's bike have made us suffer. But all our efforts finally paid off.”
