Fuel enters the unit’s special element which induces a swirling action to separate off water and solid contaminants. The special stainless steel coated element (green) only allows clean fuel to pass through, repelling all water and contaminants which sink to the base of the unit into a secure containment area, where they can be drained and disposed of safely. The element is very easily cleaned should it become blocked, just remove and gently wash with clean fuel and reinstall. This operation is quick and simple and requires no tools. The FGD1120 is fitted standard with our electronic water sensing system which constantly monitors your fuel quality and will automatically detect and signal an audible warning light when the pesence of water is found in the fuel system. Once fitted, the Fuel-Guard Decontaminator and Water Separator will ensure your engine is continuously supplied with clean, contamination free fuel, prolonging its life span and maximising operational capability. FGD100 / FGD1120 Fuel Filter / Water SeparatorInstallation, Operation, and Service InformationNote – Please mount the filter assembly as close to a vertical position as possible otherwise the filterassembly may not function correctly

Before you start:• The engine must be switched off and isolated. DO NOT smoke or allow open flames near the installation.

Installation Instructions:• To be installed as a primary filter / water separator between the fuel tank and engine fuel filter.• When positioning the filter assembly it is important to locate the filter assembly between the horizontal planes of the bottom of the fuel tank and the inlet of the fuel pump.

Installing the filter assembly:• Always use the maximum size fuel hose possible. Do not make sharp bends with flexible fuel hose as kinks may occur. When positioning hose, avoid surfaces that will move, have sharp edges, or will get hot (such as exhaust piping).• Fuel flow direction must correspond with arrow located on filter head.• Before you are ready to prime the system ensure all your thread connections are airtight by using good quality thread sealing compound suitable for fuel.

Priming instructions:• When you are ready to prime the system open the small purge screw on top of the filter head and un screw retaining ring that holds the clear bowl to the filter head (1 turn) and gently tap the bowl this will release it from its sealing ring.• Turn or open your fuel supply line allowing fuel to enter the filter head. If mounted correctly fuel will now start filling the clear bowl and the inside of the green element equally once fuel is seen to purge over the clear bowl and pour from the purge screw, tighten down the purge screw first then FULLY tighten the locking ring.

Service instructionsDraining Water and contamination:Frequency of draining is determined by the water and contamination level of the fuel. Inspect or drain thesediment bowl daily or as necessary. The sediment bowl must be drained before contaminants reach thebottom of the filter element or when the Water Detection System indicates it’s time to ’drain water’.Should the fuel level fall before or after draining contaminates then follow priming procedure or werecommend fitting a primer pump this will assist in priming the system due to little or no pressure head.

Cleaning ‘Lifetime Element’• Please clean the lifetime filter element periodically or as necessary.• Isolate the fuel supply to the filter system, open drain valve and drain fuel from filter bowl remove locking ring and sediment bowl the filter element can be cleaned in situ or removed from its housing.• Using clean fuel and a very soft brush gently remove the contaminants from the element surface of the filter element then clean and reinstall sediment bowl and prime system.• Please avoid touching the lifetime element surface ‘GREEN’ and never clean with hard brushes or pressured water.
