Direct. This is either a cluster of 4x Fujitsu Rack Server PRIMERGY RX2540 M1 systems, and/or 4x Fujitsu Server Node PRIMERGY CX2550 M1 with

PRIMERGY RX2530 M1 may be used as Compute Nodes in configurations with Disaggregated Storage.

Minimum quantity is 4 units of PRIMERGY RX2530 M1 for the compute cluster, plus 4 units of PRIMERGY RX2540 M1 for the scale out file server

cluster.

The configuration of each server node comprises of 9x HDD and 3x SSD. Configurations with 6x HDD and 2x SSD will work, but please do not use

less than 3x HDD and 1x SSD. SSD to HDD capacity ratio should always be ~ 1:10.

Background Information

Storage Spaces Direct is new with Windows Server 2016.

Storage Spaces with Shared SAS, as known from Windows Server 2012 R2 remains supported with Windows Server 2016.

Do not use ServerView Installation Manager. ServerView Installation Manager does not support Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview.

b. Join each node to the same Windows Active Directory domain.

This is a Technical Preview. There is no support available, except best-effort support from Fujitsu. Please request the desired level of support

through Fujitsu’s standardized Project Specific Special Release Process.

4.3 Guarantee

This is a Technical Preview. Fujitsu does not guarantee the customer’s satisfaction with the combination of a shipped Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY

system in combination with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview or any results in trying it out. Except for customers under certain

agreements with Microsoft, technology, and services, and all information, materials, and feedback are provided “as-is” and without warranty of

any kind, and the recipient bears the risk of using them.

7. Q&A

7.1 Turning Technical Preview into a Commercial License

Q: What must a Customer purchase from Fujitsu when, at a later date, when he wants to turn the Technical Preview into RTM/GA Commercial

License? And, what does he have to do in order to carry over the bits without reconfiguration, i.e. in-place upgrade?

A: Open, at this point of time. Please assume that there is no upgrade path to turn the Technical Preview into a Commercial License. Also,

Microsoft’s OEM policy does not allow Fujitsu to sell OEM server licenses for previously purchased x86 server systems. This is not specific to Fujitsu.

It applies to any OEM partner worldwide.

7.2 Raw versus Usable Capacity

Q: What is the usable capacity from the given BOM Storage Spaces Direct disk configurations?

A: Microsoft is working on this similar to the available calculator http://aka.ms/sdscalc

7.3 You cannot boot from a Space

Q: How can I boot the servers?

A: You cannot boot from a Storage Space. This is per Microsoft Storage Spaces design. You need a boot device for the operating system separately

from the disk devices used for Storage Spaces Direct. Boot Options:

- Boot from SATA DOM, this is the default and included in the BOM.
