BACH MUSICA NZOur ensemble consists of a 40-voice choir and a professional orchestra dedicated to performing a wide range of music from Baroque to 21st Century. We are well-known for ourNZ premieres of beautiful music from all over the world.

Last year’s performances included Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Brahms’ German Requiem, Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, Haydn’s Great Organ Mass, Rachmaninov’s The Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, Steffani’s Stabat Mater (NZ premiere).

In addition to their Concert Series, Bach Musica NZ also offers an Education Programme with highly popular Singing and Conducting Workshops open to all ages and levels.

Music and Artistic Director Rita Paczian is a freelance conductor performing in New Zealand and abroad. Her career has taken her to most European countries, Australia, South Africa, the United States and New Zealand, where she has made her home. She is assisted by Deputy Music Directors Tim Carpenter, Nick Richardson and Richard Phillips. Rita is also the Music and Artistic Director of the NZ Pops Orchestra (www.newzealandpops.co.nz) and Hausmusik NZ (www.hausmusiknz.com).

Mark Bennett, first violinist with the Auckland Philharmonia, has been Bach Musica NZ’s concertmaster since 2013.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR 201512 April 2015, Brahms German Requiem, Canteloube Songs of the AuvergneIn Brahms’ German Requiem there were goose bumps tonight on more than one occasion, with Paczian conducting without a score. The choral movements were impressive. Fugal writing was crisply encountered, with choristers and orchestra bringing the work to a spine-tingling conclusion.Seven popular Canteloube settings proved a welcome bonus, especially when delivered with such panache and authority by Patricia Wright.

William Dart, NZ Herald

14 June 2015, Rachmaninov The Liturgy of St John ChrysostomCongratulations on a wonderful Rachmaninov concert which was thrilling, fulfilling and uplifting. In addition to Bach Musica NZ’s usual precision and tonal quality, they achieved a real ‘Russian’ sound, as I once heard in St Petersburg. The basses sounded at times with their ultra low notes somewhat like the lower diapason pedal notes. How rewarding that it was so well attended too!
