ADVERTISE Fatal Cab Crash from: The Chicago Tribune, by William Lee and Rosemary R. Sobol On Monday, Texas has become the most recent state to experience a deadly shooting spree, add- ing to what is quickly becoming a summer of trag- edy. The gunman, identified as Thomas Caffall, was serving an eviction an eviction notice when he turned and opened fire at police just outside of Tex- as A&M University, killing two others and injuring four. Police shot and killed Caffall at the scene. A motive is still unknown. from: The New York Times, by Manny Fernandez and Michael Schwirtz NATIONAL American Tragedy: An- other Deadly Shooting Spree LOCAL The Keep L.O.V.E.Alive Behavior Tour has kicked off with stops at the Lincoln Park Zoo this week. Veterinarians, pet experts, pet owners, and more join together to promote awareness of the number of pets who are abandoned, relinquished, and eu- thanized due to behavior problems, and together prevent it. The inaugural stop at the Lincoln Park Zoo brought thousands of neighborhood residents and furry friends to learn more. from: Steve Dale’s Pet World, by Steve Dale NEIGHBORHOOD Cats and Dogs and Bus Tours, Oh My! POLITICS Separate campaign appearances yesterday show what’s on the current presidential candidates’ minds: energy policy. This is a huge shift from the making nice portion of the campaign and shows just how close to election day we are by bringing out the big gun issues. Both focused on the need to expand U.S. energy production, which is huge in Iowa, and, in true campaign fashion, brought down one another’s stances more than explaining their own. from: The Washington Post, by Amy Gardner and Rosalind S. Helderman An Energy Shift To Talk- ing About Energy Gas prices are at an all time high this week, of- ficially up 12 cents/gallon of what the price was last year, and while this might not mean a lot to the average commuter, the reason behind the rise is slightly unexpected. It’s not that we don’t have enough oil, it’s that we have too much oil being produced in the United States to efficiently refine in a quick manner. Whether you use the most top-notch equipment or Instagram, we’re always looking for great shots around the city to publish in The Top Sheet! President Barack Obama acknowledged over the weekend something that those of us living in the city have been all too aware of all summer: Chi- cago has a problem with violence. However, his message, while eloquent inspiring, was heard by barely a soul when the pre-recording wasn’t played at the annual Bud Biliken Parade, and the video was only aired on one local network, WCIU-TV. The absence of the video highlighted the even larger absence of the president himself at the event. from: Chicago Sun-Times, by Mary Mitchell Obama’s Pleas to End the Violence go Unheard SPORTS If you thought teenagers added nothing to the world, the newest edition of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary will prove you wrong. Now you can turn to the trusted source if you needed an official definition of “Sexting” or if you were per- haps unsure of what the “F” stood for in “F-bomb.” Don’t worry, adult troubles made it in too- so next time your favorite news anchor spews the phrase “Systemic risk” you can depend on Merriam-Web- ster to tell you what it actually means: a bad bet that collapses an entire financial system. from: The Chicago Tribune, by Rene Lynch Merriam-Webster: Not Your Grand- ma’s Dictionary Who says that all interns do is get coffee? Two others were injured and rushed to the hospital.
