Take some time this month to meet new neighbors or get more acquainted with current ones throughout your newsletter!

A big, warm Thank You to all of the resident writers — junior, teen and adult — who work hard each month to produce relevant and heartwarm-ing stories throughout the magazine. Love is in the air this month as we celebrate those who are important in our lives each and every day! Love is described as the object of attachment, devotion, or ad-miration of a person or belonging as well as, strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties. Love can have many meanings and be different for each and every one of us. We don’t need a special date such as Valentine’s Day to express our love for one another, but take time this February 14 to appreciate who you love most! With 21 years of mar-riage and love between Rick and I, we like to celebrate the lovers’ holi-day by a romantic dinner without the kids. Of course there have been years where we have been apart and the kids were the object of my affections on this special day! However you choose to celebrate, enjoy!

In this edition of the newsletter, we are excited to introduce your “Fea-ture Family”, the Trokeys, on the front cover this month! Please get to know your neighbors better by read-ing all about them. We are also show-casing Chloe, Fletcher, Cabo, and

what’s cooking in fulton ranch

A DeliciousStory by Jennifer Keen, Fulton Ranch

Mediterranean Resident

When I was asked to submit a recipe for Fulton Ranch Magazine I was thrilled to share one of my own recipes for Italian Stromboli.

When I was growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, it was a family tradition to order Italian Stromboli from our favorite restaurant and gather around the TV and watch Sunday night football enjoying this dish. It was a meal that would feed the entire family, which we all enjoyed. My mother was equally thrilled she didn’t have to cook on Sunday nights. I tinkered with some of the recipes that I found online and created my own rendition of this fabulous meal. It’s a meal that I continue to make regularly in the fall and winter. You can tailor the ingredients to your own liking and add or omit ingredients.

I do make meals for families in Chandler and this is a pop-ular dish that is requested a lot. I don’t have a website but you can visit my Facebook page (Chandler Mom Culinary Delights) for other meal ideas. Enjoy!

Do you love to cook? Would you like to share one of your favorite recipes with your neighbors? It’s easy, fun & FREE! Email [email protected] for more details.

educational perspective

Fulton Ranch Elementary Annual

Story by Sarah O’Brien, Fulton Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher

Fulton Elementary School held its annual Turkey Bowl on Wednesday, November 21. The weather was perfect and the competition did not disappoint! The sixth-

grade students courageously took on the school’s teachers and faculty members. Despite a spirited effort by the students, the teachers and staff won the game for the 12th year in a row, keeping their unde-feated streak alive! A wonderful time was had by all as Fulton con-tinued this fantastic event to kick off the holiday weekend!

Italian StromboliBaking time: 20 minutesPrep time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:Pizza dough (already made or you can make your own)BBQ sauce1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 lb Prosciutto ham 1/4 lb honey ham1/4 lb pepperoni1/4 lb salami Shredded Mexican cheese Italian spices Oregano spices Sweet peppers1/2 onion

Instructions:Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Sauté 6–8 chopped small sweet peppers and onions in frying pan until slightly brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

Put a small handful of flour on the kitchen island and start to roll dough out in a rectangular shape. Flip dough over a floured surface and continue to roll until you meet desired length.

Place dough on your cookie sheet. Coat entire surface of dough with a thin layer of BBQ sauce. Place layers of meat on 1/2 the dough. Finish with sautéed peppers and onions and top with a handful of Mexican shredded cheese.

Sprinkle oregano and Italian seasonings on top. Fold the pizza dough over and pinch edges with fingers to seal the dough together.

Place in oven and cook for 15–20 minutes or until crust turns slightly brown.

Enjoy your masterpiece.

I’m 8 years old but still as happy and play-ful as can be! I was born in Simi, California, and have lived with my family my whole life. Fletcher was born here in Arizona in rescue and has lived with us since August. Mom thinks we need to have friends come and visit sometimes so we also foster through One Dog Arizona. That’s how we met Fletcher and my mom fell in love with him. So now I have a little brother.

We have a pretty good life – we get lots of treats and lots of snuggles. My favorite treats are carrots and berries! Fletcher’s not sure about veggies yet but he really likes cheese! But as much love as we get, we also give. Our humans are our most favorite people in the whole world. We’re great at cheering them up when they feel sad or just snuggling with them when they watch TV. Someday I’d like to be a comfort dog and just let people pet me when they’re feeling scared or stressed or sick. We Golden Retrievers are known for our loving dispositions and mom says I’d be great at it! For now, I’m happy just being home with my family and being loved every day!

Your Name: Brett BrudvikYour Position: OwnerCompany Name: Brudvik LawWebsite: brudviklaw.comPhone Number: 480-374-1651Business Address: 3185 S Price Rd., Suite 7 Chandler, AZ 85248Industry: Full-Service Law Firm

Describe what your Company does:Brudvik Law is a full-service legal team. We provide legal assistance in the following area. Family Law, Crim-inal Law, Probate, Estate Planning, Business Disputes, Probate Litigation, Real Estate, Business Corporate, Po-litical Subdivisions, Federal Criminal Defense, Mineral Law, and other areas.

How long has it been in business? We opened our doors in 2009 with

If you know of great local businesses who would like more exposure in Fulton Ranch Living, please contact Rick Jewett at (480) 862-0288 or email [email protected].

one office In Mayville, North Dakota, 2 paralegals, and 2 attorneys. Since then, we have grown to eight offices and 29 team members.

What has been the Key to your Growth? The key to our growth has always been to put our client’s interest first, and to work as a team. When you hire Brud-vik Law Office you get the entire team, not just one attorney. We work hard to accomplish our client’s goals and use all of our resources to do so. For our employees we encourage a family first mentality and our team members ap-preciate this. We work hard, play hard, and provide a flexible environment. This is what makes us successful.

How many people does the Company employ? We currently employ 29 team members and are always looking for talented people.

What prompted you to start your own business? I practiced for 5 years with a large North Dakota Law Firm. I learned greatly from my time there, but really wanted to create something that was outside the traditional law firm. An environment that was comfortable, flexible, and encouraged its team to work hard in large part out of loyalty and appreciation for the environment provided.

Anything extraordinary/unique that your Company does: One unique thing that we do is we use technology to its fullest. Video conferencing and Voice Over Internet Protocol has helped our team immensely. With these modes of technology, we can offer our legal services no matter where the client or attorney is located. I would have to say that we are one of the few law firms utilizing these technologies on an everyday basis.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to the residents of your neighborhood? My advice to my neighbors would be this. Find an attorney that you are comfortable with. There are many lawyers out there. If you are paying top dollar for advice, you should be comfortable with their style. Also, be cautious. Tips from a High School Senior

Story by Alyssa Bleyle, Fulton Ranch Gallery Resident and Teen contributor

On November 28, I felt a wave of relief wash over me as I hit the submit button on my final college application. Since finishing my applications, I have had numerous younger students I know ask me for advice for searching and applying to college, so I thought it might be helpful to write a few articles about these topics. I plan to write another article about college for a future edition of Fulton Ranch Living with tips for the application process, so keep your eyes peeled! I hope you find my advice helpful, and good luck with your college search!

Think about what you want to study in college, and research schools with majors or programs in that area.

Look up schools with interdisciplinary studies options. Interdis-ciplinary studies allow you to combine multiple areas of study into one degree. For example, Vanderbilt University’s public policy studies major is an interdisciplinary major that combines political science, statistics, and economics. Interdisciplinary studies and majors are good opportunities for students who are unsure what they want to study in college and for students who want to study in multiple areas.

Make a list of things you would like to find in a school. Possible categories include size, number of undergraduates, type of school (public or private), location, and type of campus (urban, subur-ban, rural). Then create a spreadsheet of schools you’re interest-ed in and use it to compare schools to your wishlist items.

Something that is often overlooked is how easy it is to get to the school! This is one of the most important tips. If you are interest-ed in any college, demonstrate interest. Some colleges do not track this, but some do, and demonstrating an interest in a college can sometimes make a significant difference in whether or not your accepted. You can demonstrate interest by going to the college’s website and requesting information, emailing your admissions counselor, and attending (and signing in!) an on-or-off-campus information session.

Other Important items to consider:What do schools’ middle 50% of accepted students’ SAT and ACT scores and GPAs look like? This information is often more telling

and important than just looking at acceptance rates. Using Van-derbilt as an example again, their SAT Middle 50% is 1450–1560, which means that 25% of accepted students had a lower SAT score than 1450, 25% had a higher score than 1560, and 50% had a score in between those two figures. Does the college give merit/academic scholarships? How many students receive financial aid, and what does the average finan-cial aid packet look like? What classes does each college want high school students to take? This is very important when selecting classes for next year! Testing tips:Does the college require the SAT or ACT essay? Also, take the SAT and ACT the second semester of junior year, which gives you enough time if you need to retake it. Hamilton offers a free ACT (without essay) for juniors in April, and I highly recommend taking advantage of that!

business sponsor holiday party

On December 12, the staff at Fulton Ranch Living celebrated our business sponsors at a holiday party at Baci Italian Bistro. Over 30 business partners of the magazine gathered together for food, drink, and holiday cheer!

Without the sponsorship of these great businesses, Fulton Ranch Living would not exist. As you peruse the pages of the magazine, be sure to note the businesses that could provide you with the goods and services that you use most. Our business partners are very invested in your neighborhood and they would love to win your business.

The dinner was great but the fellowship and networking went well beyond that. We would like to give a special thank you to our business sponsors! Happy New Year and we look forward to another great year of building community in the Fulton Ranch neighborhood!

You are welcome and encouraged to participate in any of the Fulton Ranch Living free events, so please email us at [email protected] to be added to the events list!

love & marriage

CELEBRATING DAY

Stories by Keith & Eliane Doty and Shyla Ganesan & Sadha Parasuraman

Keith and Eliane Doty

Some people would call it “love at first sight.” We felt it was fun at first sight! The minute we met we started having a good time! We met in April 2009 at a bar in Tempe, which always makes for a good story! We dated for a few months, during which we traveled to Mexico and China. It was during these trips that we realized we shared a passion for ex-ploring new places and meeting new people. To continue our adventure of discovering the world together, we had a magical wedding in Positano, Italy, in November 2009. We traveled to London, Rome and Paris for our honeymoon. Our marriage was blessed with our daughters Vi-enna and Milan. These two amazing little girls were named after two famous cities in an effort to pass onto them our love for traveling. We have now been married for almost 10 years and the love and respect we have for each other contin-ues to grow.

As we both say, marriage is like a walk in the park ... that is, Jurassic Park.

Shyla Ganesan and Sadha Parasuraman

Name of your subdivision:Monterey Bay

Celebrating how many years of marriage?15 years on April 7, 2019

How many children do you have? Two daughters. Oldest’s name is Shruthi’s Sadhasivam, an 8th grader at ACP Oakland. She is a Valentine’s Day kid, celebrating her golden

birthday this year. Younger one is Samhitha Sadhasivam, a 4th grader at Basis Elementary, black belter and the entertainer of our house. We also live with our parents (his mom and dad and my mom).

Where/How did you meet?It is an arranged marriage. I was born and brought up in Singapore. I had finished my undergraduate and he was in the States working. Our horoscopes were exchanged and matched and we began chatting (in the times where there was AOL, ICQ, Hotmail messengers, Yahoo…etc, etc.). During this whole pro-cess, he had not seen me apart from my “prospective bride” photograph. I was able to see and talk to him via his webcam. On December 23, 2003, he finally SAW me in person in Singapore. We agreed for the marriage, the engagement was on the 25th of December 2003 with the marriage in Chennai, India, on April 7, 2004. And the rest is history!

What is your secret for being married? After a certain point, I think both of us know what each other is thinking with-out having to actually talk. So I think its mostly understanding and accepting each other and knowing how to get through life as a team.

How are you, did you, or are you planning to celebrate your anniversary?Spend quality time with the family and enjoy the day.

fulton ranch gives back Story by Joanne McGinn, Fulton Ranch Crescent Falls Resident

Ocotillo Women’s League (The Owls) held their Holiday Lun-cheon on December 17 at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler. The featured entertainment was none other than the Chordaires (a woman’s choral group) who sang beautiful Christmas Carols to us while we enjoyed a traditional holiday feast.

The Owls is a social club for women in the Ocotillo and sur-rounding Chandler area. We have monthly luncheons, fundraising events, and several other activities which include: card groups, day trips, Bunko, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Movie Club and Sewing Club. If you are interested in finding out more about our group, please visit www.owlsgroup.org. Guests are always welcome.

Our community service group along with the support of our membership is dedicated to helping non-profit organizations and individuals. With our passion and enthusiasm, we will make a difference through volunteering and charitable giving. Just a few of our recipients include The Starbright Foundation, Fans Across America, Clothes Cabin, Neighbors Who Care, The Perfect Place, Hamilton High School Homeless and Ryan’s House.

Do you or someone you know participate in raising awareness for charitable organizations? We would love to support your cause by sharing your giving passion with your neighbors! Email FultonRanch@n2publishing to submit your story.

neighborhood eventStory by Jeri Grennan, Fulton Ranch Crescent Falls Resident

On the evening of November 19, the residents of the Cres-cent Falls community gathered together to enjoy a fun night of music and cocktails.

Crescent Falls is a fun neighborhood that likes to get everyone together from time to time to socialize and just “catch-up.”

We were lucky to once again have Kristy Dee perform for us with her wonderful guitar playing and beautiful vocals. Also, our sincere thanks to Andrea and Mackenzie from Serrano’s of Chandler for providing some wonderful appetizers for our event.

A great time was had by all!

LIFESTYLE!

Beautycounter is a movement I became passionate about in 2016 after my mom was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Beauty-counter is an education-based company that takes banning over 1,500 ingredients in their high performing products seriously. The FDA only bans 30. The average American woman puts between 12 and 20 chemicals on their skin 365 days a year. Sounds shocking, right? But stop for a moment to think about what your skincare routine involves each and every day: shampoo, soap, lotion, cos-metics — the list goes on. Beautycounter focuses on quality prod-ucts, safer ingredients and building a movement to level the playing field in our industry today. My goal is that you will take away information to empower yourself to make safer choices and learn some information you never knew about the personal care product industry. I fell in love with the mission and high performing prod-ucts and I now want to share this company that is shaking up the cosmetics industry. I am also working closely with the Siteman Center in St. Louis to bring more awareness to ovarian cancer. A percentage of all my personal sales are donated each month to the Siteman Center for Ovarian Cancer research and awareness.

I try to live a healthy, less toxic lifestyle. I am a baseball, cross country, band, and orchestra momma! I am a reformer pilates in-structor and avid trail runner! On the weekends you will find me Do you know a neighbor in our community or are you trying to start

hitting the trails early and then sitting on a baseball field cheer-ing my son on. I LOVE to cook and prepare healthy meals! I live my life 80/20 because I still LOVE my chocolate and wine!

So here I am to share with you because I believe that we all deserve to live better. We don’t need to wait for laws to be passed and marketplaces to change. Whether we are aware or not, we are making choices every day that impact our health.

I am here for you with recommendations, product trial drop-offs, mailing samples, questions, or concerns.
