Not so good around the house...
When youre hiking, biking or climbing a mountain trail mix can be a great energy boost and provide protein and calories youll need to fuel your body. But when youre just sitting around the house snacking....trail mix can really pack on the pounds!
We think it must be healthy because the word TRAIL is in and being out on thhe trail is all natural and healthy right?
According to Fooducate many popular brands of trail mix score low on the healthy for me scale because:
They contain anywhere from 2.5 - 3.0 Tsp of Sugar per serving (by the way many bags of trail mix contain as many as 6 servings!...so that would be a TON of sugar!) They contain artificial colors - Once upon a time, there were no food colorings. Then folks figured out that food looks better and sells more when it can be enlivened through dyes. For most of food history, the dyes were from natural sources beet juice for red, turmeric for yellow, etc However, in the quest to increase color intensity and lower manufacturing costs, cheap artificial dyes were introduced to market.Unfortunately they pose a risk for hyperactivity in children, cancer, and allergic reactions.
A Better Option - AlmondsNot Low Fat But the Fat is the healthy Kind
Although almonds are not low in fat, most of the fat is the healthy kind - unsaturated. A single ounce of almonds has 6 grams of protein. Almonds are a good source of vitamin E, magnesium, and manganese.Healthy Protein BarsClif Bars ThinkThin BarsSoy Joy BarsPower Bars

2nd ingredient after water is sugar
According to: http://wywnutrition.com/negative-effects-gatorade-2/
All Gatorade products have a list of difficult-to-pronounce- ingredients, and many of these ingredients are forms of sugar or artificial sweeteners. In fact, sugar is the second ingredient after water; the ingredient list on a food label lists the ingredients in descending order of prominence and weight. Therefore, Gatorade products are mostly sugar and water. In fact, Gatorade Thirst Quencher has a whopping 14 g of sugar A Better Alternative - Water75% of all americans are Chronically Dehydrated

Avoid the low-fat options and choose whole milk instead.Image is not centered properly and it looks weird with just two milk containers. What else should I add?
Whole milk has more saturated and monounsaturated fats to keep you feeling full, support metabolism, and improve your body composition. Rice CakesLow in Calories
Low in Nutrition
May contain artificial flavors
Yes...these are low calorie but also low on nutrition.
According to my FitNess Pal: http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/the-truth-about-rice-cakes/
The truth about rice cakes is this. Rice cakes are little more than refined carbohydrates (which are quickly digested and converted into sugar) that have been sprinkled with salt, and possibly sprayed with some artificial flavoring. Their glycemic index, an indicator of how a food affects blood sugar, ranks pretty high at 82 compared to pure sugar which tops out at 100. Instead of taking your mind off of food, snacking on rice cakes on an empty stomach can induce a spike in blood sugar that might just leave you feeling sluggish and craving, you got it, more rice cakes.
Be cautious of those Rice Cake that are flavored...
People sensitive to MSG, vegans, vegetarians and those with allergies should pay special attention to the phrase "natural flavorings" since glutamates, animal products or allergens may be the source of natural flavors. You can always contact the manufacturer for more information.Whole Wheat Breadpartially hydrogenated oilsartificial sweetenershigh-fructose corn syrup
