Funky House

Funky house as a genre is derived from the other two groups funky and house. House music is an electronic dance music that started in Chicago. It was very popular in the mid 1980’s and it catered to African Americans, Latin Americas and also the gay community. House is a mix of disco, soul and funk. Funky is a style of modern electronic dance music which contains melodies.

Funky House

Funky house has got a big crossover appeal to Grime due to the fact more than 80 % of funky artist used to be grime artists. This is good because it will have a larger audience (which are people who like grime, funky and house).

Image

Image is a very big part of funky house in fact I personally think its just as important as the music. Your music could be great but if you don't have the swagger to go with it your fan base will in deed be minimal. The colours worn are usually bright/ bold / funky/ sharp/ summer etc..

You need to come across as easy going, funny and full of energy. Most of the so called “funky” look originated from the 80’s where t all started. Its very retro in deed from the big colourful jackets to the skinny/big belts , high top trainers and “werid” glasses.

Target Audience

The target audience of funky house is mostly urban males and females between the ages of 14 and 25. Mostly they play UK Funky on radios (BBC 1xtra) or listen to it in clubs so there best fans are 18 and over. But the under 18 listen to them on the internet.

Cd covers

Funky house cd covers are always colourful with just writing but when the artist are mainstream then their pictures are on the front both are mostly kept simple. They usually put a big picture of the artist to get a good look and the name is big so it stands out and is remembered.

Conventions of a Video

Funky house Music Videos usually are Realistic narrative, Colourful, with a distinctive dance routine.

The camera work in the videos show a lot of close ups, medium close ups establishing shots, most of the time they use a eye level angle, they use swish pan, tilts and tracking shots.

Conventions of a Video

The editing in the video it shows pacing matched with the rhythm of the music. They sometimes use movement matches and fade in and out.

Most of the time if there is a dialogue is spoken in slang. The sound is synchronistied and the relationship it creates with the music are positive.

Conventions of a video

In the Videos the Age is a factor as it focuses on 18-25 year olds as these are people most likely to listen and dance to it. Gender is another factor, mostly the women a seen as sex symbols as they dress provocatively. Ethnicity yet again is a factor, the people are mostly black with a few white people.

Convention of a Video

In a funky video the figure expressions and gestures suggest they are having fun the movement is very choreographed the colours are artificial including the lighting the settings are staged usually in a studio.
